Fiction God Bless This Meatby Nick Kolakowski Let me tell you why I’ll never eat meat again. Tonight, my friend Owen tells me to come with him. Owen’s involved in some very bad things that pay a lot of money, and I want a taste—need it, actually. Poverty sucks. We head out of town, from highway to dirt roads, and after an hour or so we take a left onto a gravel lot lined by two Quonset huts and a one-story structure pieced together from rusty corrugated siding. A cigarette flares, illuminating a sliver of a man’s face in the shadow of one of the huts. Fear chills the back of my neck.
