Aria's POV 25

1158 Words
Selene immediately brightened up taking a few steps toward him with a triumphant smirk on her face. "Perfect she can leav—” Damian raised a hand, stopping her in her tracks. "And that will be determined by whoever wins a fight." The arena went completely silent. Selene stared at him, her smile dropping instantly. "A fight?" "Yes… a fight between you and Aria," Damian replied, crossing his arms over his chest. "One on one. The winner stays, the loser leaves." Loud, mocking laughter broke out from Selene's two friends. "Is this a joke?" one of them sneered, looking me up and down with total disgust. "She will barely last ten seconds." "I would be surprised if she could even move that fast," the other girl giggled. I squeezed my fists tightly at my sides, feeling a sharp flare of anger. But looking back at Damian, seeing the faint plum lipstick smudge still clinging to his jaw, a cold wave of realization washed over me. Why was I even standing here letting myself be humiliated for his attention? "Forget it," I said, my voice cold and flat. Damian frowned slightly, "what?" "I am not doing this," I said, pointing between him and Selene. "You want her here? Fine… have your fun." I turned on my heel and began walking straight toward the stone exit. I was done being part of whatever twisted game they were playing. "That is right, run away!" Selene shouted after me, her voice echoing off the walls. "Go hide…No wonder you're that weight, what could we truly expect from a girl like you." Every muscle in my body locked up, the mention of my weight was really getting out of hand. The sheer cruelty in her voice and the ugly satisfaction sliced right through my restraint…I couldn't let her have the last laugh. Slowly, I turned back around. Selene was already standing in the center of the ring, looking immensely proud of herself. She thought she had broken me and that I was walking away out of fear. I walked straight back into the ring, rolling my shoulders and locking my eyes onto hers. "Let us go," I said softly. Selene's smirk returned as she stepped forward, cracking her knuckles. "I was hoping you would say that." "The first person who cannot keep fighting loses," Damian called out from the edge and waved his hand."Begin." The second the word cleared his lips, Selene lunged forward. She was fast, driven by pure malice and a quick punch grazed my jaw, followed by a sharp kick straight to my thigh. Pain throbbed through my leg, forcing me back a few steps into the dirt. Her friends cheered wildly from the sidelines, shouting insults and counting her strikes. Selene came at me again, throwing heavy, rapid punches. I threw up my arms to block, wincing as her fists slammed into my forearms. Moving my heavier body took a little bit more effort and my lungs were already burning. But as she swung again, I noticed a flaw. She was telegraphing every single move. Before every strike, her right shoulder dipped and her hips shifted to the left. She was not reacting to me at all, she was just repeating a set routine she had practiced over and over. Once I caught the pattern, everything slowed down. Selene charged with another right hook. I stepped smoothly to the side, letting her fist slice harmlessly through empty air. Her friends instantly went quiet. Selene scowled, throwing a wild kick. I dodged it easily, slipping past her guard. Frustration flared in her eyes as she swung again and again, missing every single target. She was losing her temper, burning through her energy while I saved mine. Overextended and furious, she charged directly at me with full force. I did not step back this time, I drove my shoulder straight into her chest, shattering her balance. Before she could regain her footing, I hooked my leg behind her ankle and swept her off her feet. Selene hit the dirt with a loud, heavy thud and the entire arena fell dead silent. Before she could push herself back up, I dropped down and sat on her….pinning both of her wrists flat against the ground, using my full weight to hold her completely still. Selene thrashed and squirmed beneath me, her face turning bright red as she tried desperately to break my grip. "Get off me, you fat pig!" "Surrender," I demanded, staring down at her. "Never!" she spat out, trying to bite my hand. Then something deep inside me snapped completely. All the built-up anger, the constant humiliation, the cruel insults about my body surfaced all at once. I released her wrists, pulled back my arm , formed it into a fist and slammed my it straight into the center of her face. Her nose cracked instantly under the blow. Blood exploded over her mouth and cheeks, spraying onto the dirt. “ Again,” a small dark voice echoed loud in my head. I drew my fist back and punched her…her skin split open and a deep bruise formed immediately. The voice whispered, “ Again,” I slammed another punch directly into her jaw. Her teeth rattled and fresh blood poured from her split lip. “Again,” the voice said and I obeyed like I was under a trance I brought my knuckles down hard on her eye. She shrieked, her legs thrashing uselessly under my heavy weight. I drove my fist into her bloody face a fifth time. Selene was sobbing uncontrollably now, coughing and choking on her own blood, her hands weakly trying to shield her mangled face. The arrogant miss anger issues was completely gone. "Stop!" one of her friends screamed from the edge, but I barely heard her over the pounding in my ears and the voice in my head urging me to continue. I raised my bloody hand one last time, hovering right over her face. "Surrender." "I surrender! I surrender! Please stop!" Selene wept, her voice trembling and broken as she choked on blood. The arena was completely frozen in terror. I released my hold and stood up slowly. Selene stayed curled up in a ball on the ground, weeping and trembling, completely destroyed by her own defeat. Her friends stood frozen, looking horrified and terrified to even step into the ring. I did not feel like celebrating and I did not look at Damian for his approval. Defeating Selene was not about winning his time or proving my worth to him. It was about standing up for myself and keeping my dignity intact. Without saying a single word to anyone, I got out of the ring and headed to the exit of the arena, holding my head high. "Aria,” Damian called out behind me,” where are you won.” I neither paused nor did Iook back. I just kept walking straight ahead.
