Aria's POV 27

1132 Words
The next morning, before the sun was even up, the door to our room was kicked open with a loud bang. I jolted awake in bed, my heart hammering in my chest as i blinked away sleep. Natalie gasped beside me, scrambling backward against the wall. Two heavy pack guards marched straight into the small room. "What is the meaning of this?" Natalie shouted, her voice trembling as she tried to stand in front of me. "You cannot just burst into our quarters!" "Move out of the way, servant," one guard growled, shoving Natalie back onto her bed. "Leave her alone!" I yelled, trying to push myself up. "What do you want?" "You are coming with us," the second guard said coldly, reaching out to grab my arm. "No! Get your hands off her!" Natalie screamed, reaching out to pull the guard back. The guard turned and shoved Natalie hard against the wall. She hit the stone with a dull thud, dropping to the floor with a groan. "Natalie!" I cried out, lunging toward her. Before I could reach her, the second guard grabbed my arm from behind. He pulled a damp cloth from his pocket and pressed it firmly over my nose and mouth. "Shut up and stop fighting," he grunted into my ear. I thrashed wildly, my fingers clawing at his heavy leather sleeve, but the sharp, bitter smell filled my lungs instantly. My vision blurred, my limbs turned heavy, and everything went completely black. When I woke up, my head throbbed with a sharp pain. I was sitting on the cold stone floor in the main hall with my hands tied tightly behind my back. "She is awake," a harsh voice said above me. I forced my eyes open. Standing in front of me was a tall man in heavy armor with an angry scowl on his face. Beside him stood a woman in fine silk clothes. They looked just like Selene, sharing the same cold, arrogant eyes. This was Commander Lawson and his wife. I remembered old conversations. Commander Lawson was a high-ranking officer in the pack. Damian used to mention his name a lot during strategic meetings. And then I remembered something Kael once said. Kael told me that Damian was arranged to marry Commander Lawson's daughter to make a political alliance. Realization hit me immediately. Commander Lawson's daughter was Selene. Everything made sense now. The plum lipstick stain on Damian's jaw. Him being late to training. Him hesitating to send her away. It was all because of her father. But if they were supposed to marry, why was he refusing her? Why was he pushing it back? "You ruined my daughter's face, you ugly pig!" Commander Lawson spat out, stepping toward me. "Look at what this servant did to our family!" Selene stood behind them with a thick bandage over her nose and a dark bruise on her cheek. She glared down at me with pure hate. "She should be killed right now!" her mother said angrily. "Look at her. She is nothing." "You will pay for this," Commander Lawson growled, raising his boot to kick me. "I will break your ribs myself." "Touch her and you lose that leg." A cold voice rang out across the hall. Commander Lawson froze. I turned my head slightly. Kael walked into the room, looking dangerous. He stepped right between me and the commander to protect me. "Alpha Kael," Commander Lawson said, lowering his foot. "This servant almost beat my daughter to death." "It was a fight your daughter agreed to," Kael replied smoothly. "It happened in the arena under rules. You do not get to kidnap my people from their rooms and drag them onto the floor like animals." Footsteps echoed from the entrance. Damian walked into the hall, his face pale and full of panic. The second he saw me tied up on the floor, anger covered his face. "What is going on here?" Damian demanded, walking over to us. "Who gave the order to bind her?" "We want justice, Beta!" Commander Lawson barked, pointing at Selene. "Look at my daughter! Look at what this omega did to her! Is this how you treat the woman you are supposed to marry?" Damian stopped next to Kael, his jaw tight. He looked at Selene's bruised face, then down at my tied wrists. "She is supposed to be your wife!" Selene's mother yelled at Damian. "Yet you let a servant beat her face!" Selene stepped forward, tears in her eyes as she looked at Damian. "She attacked me, Damian! She humiliated me! You promised my father you would protect our family!" Damian took a breath and looked at the commander. "Commander Lawson, I understand your anger. But this was a fair fight in the arena. Aria was just defending herself." Selene gasped, her mouth open in shock. "Damian! How can you say that?" "I will handle everything from here," Damian said, his voice flat and strict. "Untie her right now." Kael did not wait for the guards. He pulled out a knife and cut the ropes around my wrists. "You are free to go, Aria," he said quietly. The thick ropes fell away, leaving red marks on my skin. Selene stomped her foot in rage as she watched me rub my wrists. "Are you serious? She just gets to walk away free after what she did to me? You are defending her over me?" "Selene, quiet," Commander Lawson snapped, though he was glaring at Damian. "We will talk about this marriage later, Beta. This is far from over." "There is nothing more to discuss today," Damian said coldly. Commander Lawson turned around, grabbed his wife, and pulled her toward the exit. Selene glared at me one last time before following her parents out of the hall. Silence filled the room. Kael looked at Damian, gave a short nod, and walked out to give us space. "Do not let this happen again, Damian," Kael warned before leaving. Now it was just the two of us. I stood up slowly, my legs still weak from the drugs. I looked down at the floor, trying to brush off my dress. "Aria," Damian said softly, taking a step toward me. His tone changed instantly, turning sweet and worried. "Are you okay? Did they hurt you? Please talk to me." He reached out, trying to act like everything was normal and trying to sugarcoat what just happened. Before he could touch me, I took a step back. "Do not touch me." Damian's sweet look vanished. His eyes narrowed, and before I could move, he lunged forward. His hand grabbed my wrist tightly, pulling me hard against his chest. "We need to talk," he whispered darkly in my ear, his grip like steel. "Right now."
