Lydia’s POV
The world began to fade and even the warmth of his body slowly faded. My vision narrowed until the last thing I could see was his gorgeous face, streaked with tears as his lips parted as if to say something, but I couldn’t hear it then everything went dark.
Suddenly there was light…a light that blinded me,I blinked hoping it was all just a dream, an act … but my body felt weightless. I looked around and there was nothing but light.
“ “No,” I whispered as tears spilled down my cheeks , feeling nothing yet feeling everything. Then a gentle, melodic voice echoed through the white. “Welcome,my child,” it said calmly.
I froze, stunned as a figure appeared before me looking luminous and serene… just like the ancient stories and books described her ,the Moon Goddess herself. My heart sank as I realized it, the only way to meet the Moon Goddess is…I paused as disbelief washed over me. I was dead…Kael killed me. I shook my head, patting myself “W-what…what am I doing here?” I stammered, confusion clawing at me but she just smiled. “This… this wasn’t supposed to happen. Kael…no, I loved him. We…” My voice broke. “What happened?”
The Goddess just smiled, patient and kind. “Life has many paths, and yours is not yet complete, I can grant you one wish..”
I swallowed, trembling. “I… I want another chance. Another chance to live… to find out why he did what he did. To understand… everything.”
The Goddess nodded, a soft glow surrounding her as if she could feel the depth of my plea. Then I felt a sudden pull and my heart thumped in chest chest like I was experiencing a heart attack. A sharp piercing sound echoed in my ears making me double over, I clutched the sides of my head as everything began to blur and slowly the light began to fade.
The piercing sound slowly died down, replaced by a subtle beeping sound of an alarm. And instinctively I found myself reaching out to stop it, but couldn’t reach it until I forced myself up. But when my hand touched the clock, I froze at the sight of the hand that reached out, chubby with short little fingers. I wriggled my fingers and so did it, I counted one to five , finger by finger and so did it.
The alarm continued to beep, and my door swung wide open as a young girl stormed in and switched it off. “ Rise and shineeee Aria,” her smile beamed from ear to ear as she shook her bob.
“ Aria ?” I repeated the name sounding unfamiliar.
“ Who are you and what are you doing in my room?”
“ Aria, c’mon i know we drank too much to forget about your ex last night, but stop acting dumb.” She said, rolling her hazel eyes.“ Freshen up quickly, we have a lot of laundry to do.”
“ Do laundry? What are you talking about…I’m not going anywhere until you tell me who you’re.”
“ Hey I’m Audrey, your best friend… and we need to get going before Matron Matilda comes fussing about how you can’t get anything done.”
I furrowed my brows, she kept mentioning names I had no idea of who they were. I looked around and finally noticed I wasn't in my room. “ Where are we?”
“ Aria can you please stop acting silly, we’re falling behind schedule.” she fussed.
I looked down, and could barely see my toes over my boobs. What was going on? I spotted a mirror in the corner of the room and walked towards it, I felt heavier than usual like I gained overnight. But when I stood in front of the mirror, my jaw almost dropped to the floor.
There in front of me stood a fat , curvy red haired woman in pajamas. I leaned forward and so did the reflection , I opened my mouth and it followed . “ No way,” I uttered and her lips followed too. What in the moon goddess’s name was happening.
I screamed and Audrey pinched the bridge of her nose. “Dramatic much,” she uttered. “ Please get ready on time,” she said walked towards the door. “ Or this omega block will be punished, we don’t want that to happen again.”
Omega… the word echoed like a chant in my mind. “ No, it can't be, I can’t be an Omega.” Still standing in front of the mirror, I touched my eyelids slowly tracing the dark circle around then, followed by my small plumped but chapped lips and the freckles that spread across my nose, none of the features seemed to go together, even my scent smelled different but it was still sweet and vibrant but just not me.
“ Moon… what is this?” I asked, raising arms trying to process what was going on.
“ Nyx… Nyx,” I called out to my wolf but I was met with nothing but silence, did I lose my wolf too ? I asked the moon for another chance, not another body.
I freshened up quickly and found myself standing in front of what I assumed was my wardrobe. All the dresses in it looked so tasteless and worn out , like they had been passed down from generation to generation. I picked one and wore it, I looked so homeless.
I made my way out and found Audrey waiting for me outside , a huge smile on her face. We walked to the laundry room and there were other omegas too, but none of them had bright smiles like Audrey and a few of them snorted when I passed by.
Audrey picked the laundry basket and we headed to the river to wash them, I had never imagined myself in such a position.
“ Well would you look at that, the drunk pig is alive,” a voice came from behind, when a group of three ladies stood there.
“ Cynthia, can you leave her alone please.” Audrey chimed in.
“ I’m just saying, I mean let’s be honest Edward was kind enough to make her feel that someone like her can be wanted.”
“ Yeah,” the second woman agreed. “ He left you where he found you, in the mud oink oink,” the three of them burst out in laughter.
“ You really thought someone as handsome and powerful as him would walk around with a mate like you?”
Mate, that word triggered me something deep inside and Kael’s face surfaced in my mind. Without thinking I lunged forward in attempts to attack her, but my body couldn’t catch up and I ended up tripping in front of them feeding their mockery.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The sun was setting and we were finally done with our duties and my entire experience was a nightmaree. Whoever possessed this body before I did must have lived a very hard life and that wasn’t the only gut wrenching truth.
Firstly I wasn’t in Silverfang pack, I was far from my home pack where my mate Kael ruled side by side with me. And now I was in the Nightshade pack, a very unfamiliar surrounding in the body of an omega ,literally from Luna to dust. Secondly no one showed respect towards Aria, she was bullied and called names such as Fatso and piggy even by people of her kind, no one wanted to stand next to her, others even held their breath as she passed. Last but not least her body moved slower than my normal body would, making everything difficult for me to do.
I wasn’t going to continue living like this. I needed to escape, to find my way back home. But there was one sad thing clung to my chest, Audrey. She was the only person who showed Aria love and if I left I’d take the only family she had. As sad as it was I needed to make my way back to silverfang, during our working hours I managed to get information out of Audrey and formulated an escape plan.
As night fell upon the pack,it was time to execute my plan. I wrote a Letter to Audrey telling her not to look for me and promised I’d come back. I snuck out undetected, and made my way to the forest locating the harder that had no guards as they switched shifts and I made a run for it. It was harder than I thought in my new body, but I still made my way out. I ran as fast as I could, each step I took felt heavier than the last but I pressed on.
And when I finally came to a stop, I leaned against a tree trunk, my chest burned as I gasped for air. And when my breath finally settled , a chill ran down my spine , something was watching me and I could feel it. But by the time I could get up it was too late, I was surrounded and there was no way I could out number them in my body.
