Damian was still leaning over me, his face written all over with pure worry. He pressed his palms flat against the grass beside my shoulders, looking down into my eyes.
"Are you okay? Say something Aria...are you okay?" he asked, his deep voice trembling slightly.
I heard his words, but my mind was completely elsewhere.
I was staring up at him, entirely trapped in the sight. The water was still dripping from his dark hair onto his forehead, and his eyes were locked on mine with a fierce, intense focus. The sunlight hit his bare chest and shoulders, making the water droplets glisten over his muscles.
Then, the soft breeze caught his scent and blew it straight toward me—that clean, warm smell of cedarwood and frost . Most of all, I could still feel his strong arms beneath my back. A strange, sharp tingle shot right through my chest, making my skin feel overly sensitive where he had touched me.
My heart hammered against my ribs, and my brain screamed at me like No. No, no, no.
I snapped out of my trance and roughly shoved his chest away, scrambling backward on the grass.
"Are you crazy?" I yelled, my voice shaking with fake anger as I wiped the water from my face. "Do you want to kill me?"
Damian stumbled back onto his knees, raising his hands in defense. "I'm sorry...I really didn't think you didn't know how to swim. You keep saying you don't know how to do things, and then you keep surprising me at the end."
I scoffed loudly, pushing myself up to my feet with trembling legs. "I'm going back to the pack house."
"No, wait," Damian called out, standing up quickly. "Aria, wait. I said I'm sorry."
"I don't care," I snapped over my shoulder, not even bothering to look back at him. "It doesn't matter."
I turned on my heel and started walking briskly down the dirt trail toward the pack house.
As I walked, the cool breeze made my wet clothes stick uncomfortably to my skin, and damp strands of hair slapped against my face. My mind was racing, and I started scolding myself harshly under my breath.
"What is wrong with you?" I muttered to myself, kicking a loose rock off the path. "I came here for one reason. I am here to find out why Kael did what he did to me. That is it. I am not here to start drooling or admiring his younger brother."
I squeezed my hands into tight fists, forcing the lingering image of Damian out of my head as I reached the back entrance of the main house.
The moment I stepped into the quiet hallway, a sharp voice cut through the air.
"Excuse me...where are you from?"
I froze instantly.
Standing a few feet ahead of me was Silver. She was standing tall with her arms crossed over her chest, eyeing my dripping clothes with a look of pure disgust. For a second, my mind went blank. I stood there stuck, completely unsure if she was asking where I had just come from, or if she was questioning my place of origin entirely.
"I was..." I began nervously, taking a half-step back.
Before I could even finish my sentence, Silver took a step forward, her eyes narrowing into cold slits. "Who are you?"
"I-I'm Aria," I answered softly, keeping my head slightly lowered.
Silver stared at me for a long, uncomfortable moment, taking in my face and my wet hair.
"Oh," she said, a sharp, bitter smile spreading across her face. "So you're the famous Aria."
I blinked, genuinely confused. "Famous Aria?"
"Yes," Silver sneered, her tone dripping with fake politeness. "I've heard a lot about you around this pack... and Kadl has been talking a lot about you non-stop. Saying you saved him, or whatever it was, and that you feel very familiar."
I swallowed hard and stared at her. Silver was tge last person I'd want to have on my case, once she starts something she won't stop until she ends it. For years, she had been able to prophecy and predict almost anything and it'd certainly come true. Everyone listened and obeyed , no one questioned her...n ot even the elders. They believed she had direct contact with the moon goddess. that's how loyal and valuable she was to the pack.
She stepped forward and looked at me,"let me make something very clear to you, Aria. Stay away from Kael unless it is absolutely necessary for you to be around him. I don't want to see you anywhere near him. Okay?"
I stood there in complete shock, my stomach twisting. Why was she saying this to me and why did she care so much about who I spoke to?
When I didn't answer right away, Silver took another step closer, her voice dropping into a harsh whisper. "Am I clear?"
"Yes," I quickly lied, forcing myself to sound small. "Yes, I understand."
Silver gave me one last dirty look before turning on her heel and walking away down the corridor.
I let out a long breath I didn't realize I was holding, rubbing my damp arms. I turned around and started walking down the main hallway toward the omega quarters, just wanting to change out of my wet clothes.
"Aria?"
I stopped in my tracks and turned around.
Kael was standing near the grand staircase. The moment his eyes landed on me, a frown appeared on his face, and he hurried over to where I was standing.
"Aria," he said gently, looking me up and down. "What happened to you?"
I looked down at my damp clothed, my mind wildly searching for any believable excuse. "Oh... I was in the garden, and I tripped over and fell into the fountain."
As stupid and ridiculous as it sounded the second the words left my mouth, it was the only thing I could think of on the spot.
Kael blinked, and then a look of genuine concern washed over his features. "Oh no. You're going to catch a cold standing around like that. Why don't you get changed?"
"I'm actually on my way to do that," I replied, shifting my weight. "But first, I need to go to the kitchen to talk to Natalie about dinner."
"No," Kael cut in softly, shaking his head. "Before you do any of that, your health comes first. I want you to go straight to your quarters and get changed right now. Please."
I stared at him beneath my lashes, completely bewildered. How was he being so sweet to me?
In my past life, before everything broke, Kael had always been a sweet person . But I never expected him to treat a simple, unknown omega with this much gentle care. It felt weirdly comforting and deeply disturbing all at the same time.
I bowed my head quickly to hide the confusion on my face. "Okay, Alpha."
I turned around to walk away, but his voice stopped me again.
"Aria...if you need anything at all, you can always let me know," Kael added softly.
Those words shocked me even more, sending a sharp shiver down my spine.
I kept my back turned, bowing my head lower. "Yes, Alpha. Thank you."
I hurried down the hall, my heart beating fast against my ribs as I rounded the corner toward the back door.
But the moment I stepped into the narrow hallway leading to the omega rooms, a figure stepped out from the shadows, blocking the doorway completely.
Silver was standing there, waiting for me with her arms crossed tightly over her chest and a murderous look in her eyes.
"What did I just tell you moments ago?" Silver hissed.
