I sucked in a sharp breath as placed my hand over my chest from fear.Damian stepped towards me with his eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that sent a sudden shiver down my spine. The warm, giddy feeling from the garden evaporated in an instant.
"Damian..." I stammered, quickly trying to smooth down the front of my purple dress. "I—I thought you had already gone to bed."
"Answer the question Aria," he said, taking a slow, deliberate step toward me. "Where were you? The ball ended over an hour ago. The driver waited for you but couldn't find you… I looked for you and waited by the main doors for you. Do you know how worried I was ?”
I looked at him, why was he trying to be possessive all of a sudden and more over I wasn't in the mood to be interrogated like a prisoner.
"It's none of your business," I said flatly, pulling my shoulders back.
Damian’s jaw clenched tightly. "I am not going to ask you again, Aria. Where were you?"
"And I'm going to give you the exact same answer," I shot back, keeping my voice firm. "It's none of your business. I don't think I need to tell you everywhere I go or who I'm with."
Before the last word even fully left my lips, Damian closed the distance between us in a flash. He stepped up dangerously close, backing me up until my spine slammed directly against the stone wall. He braced one hand beside my head, trapping me in his shadow.
"Must I remind you that I am the reason you're even living in this pack?" Damian whispered, his voice low vibrating with authority. "So when I ask you where you were and who you were with, you let me know without fail."
All the words died in my throat. The weight of his reminder hit me like a physical blow. I was an omega, a nobody living here under his protection and he held all the power. My mouth opened, but no sound came out as I completely lost my train of thought.
I let out a harsh sigh dropping my defense.
"Fine…” I snapped quietly, glaring up at him. "I was with Alpha Kael. We were just sitting and chatting, nothing else. None of those crazy assumptions you were making back on the dance floor."
"Oh... with Kael?" Damian’s lips curved into a slow, dark smirk that didn't reach his eyes. "That's interesting. And didn't you just tell me earlier that you don't like powerful men? Or that I was making you out to be some type of way?"
"Because what you were thinking was completely baseless,” I argued, my chest heaving. "It wasn't like that Damian. It's not the type of person I am."
Damian didn't respond immediately. He just looked at me, his intense gaze slowly swept over my face , silent and unreadable, making the silence stretch between us until it felt unbearable.
Then, he leaned in even closer.
His face stopped just inches from mine. I could feel the radiant warmth of his body washing over me, his scent filling my senses. And an unexpected spark ignited right where our breath mingled in the air, sending a sudden flutter through my stomach. My eyes widened, not with fear and I stood completely frozen, totally lost on what to say next.
Damian hovered there for a heartbeat longer, staring down at my lips before his gaze dragged back up to my eyes.
"I hope you have a good night Aria," he murmured softly, his tone shifting into something gentle. "And that flower... it compliments you."
Without waiting for a reply, he backed up, releasing me from the wall, turned on his heel and walked away down the dark hallway leaving me breathless.
I was caught between two brothers.
