(Adrian’s Point of View)
For most of my life, I believed emotions were weaknesses.
Love.
Attachment.
Hope.
They were dangerous things for someone like me.
I stood at the large window of our house, staring out at the dark forest that surrounded Ravenwood.
The night was quiet, and the moonlight spread softly across the trees.
To any ordinary person, the house behind me would look like a normal family home.
But nothing about my family was normal.
“Adrian.”
My mother’s voice came from the doorway.
I turned slightly.
She stood there with the same calm elegance she always carried. Her long dark hair fell over her shoulders, and her pale skin almost seemed to glow under the dim light.
“You’re thinking again,” mom said smiling.
“I always think.” I said
“That’s not what I meant.”mom add,
She studied my face carefully.
“Something is different.”she added
I looked away, and she noticed, I looked away to quickly, she know me to well.
“Nothing is different.” I said, trying to turn down any suspicious.
My mother raised an eyebrow, f**k , I made it to obvious.
“You’ve been distracted since school started, did something happened?.”mom ask worried.
Before I could respond, another voice interrupted.
“Maybe our dear Adrian finally found something interesting in that boring school.”
My older brother Marcus walked into the room with a small smirk.
“Don’t start,” I said quietly.
Marcus leaned against the wall.
“Oh, I will start. Because for the first time in a hundred years, you actually look confused.” he said still smirking, I wish I could slap it of his face, so annoying.
My mother frowned slightly.
“Marcus.” I said so annoying, great I can not lie
“What?” he said casually. “I’m curious.”he added,
He looked directly at me.
“Who is she?”he asked,
I didn’t answer.
But that was answer enough.
Marcus laughed.
“Well, well… Adrian has finally met a girl.”he said sounding so annoying, I gave him a killing look.
My mother crossed her arms.
“Is she human?”she ask.
“Yes,” I said quietly.
The room fell silent.
My mother’s expression immediately became serious.
“That is dangerous, you know that your father...” she started but I interrupt.
“I know mom.” I told.
“You should stay away from her.” she said I nod.
“I am trying mom.”i said
Marcus chuckled.
“Trying?” mascus butt in,
I glared at him, if looked could kill he will be dead by now.
“Don’t push me.”i warned him, he laugh.
He raised his hands playfully.
“Relax. I’m just saying… humans usually don’t affect you like this.” he said
He wasn’t wrong.
For most of my life, humans had been nothing more than fragile, temporary creatures passing through time.
But Elena Carter was different.
she is like a shiny sun in the dark.
I can't seem to take my eyes off her or even stop thinking about her.
And I didn’t understand why.
I closed my eyes briefly.
The memory of the first moment I saw her appeared clearly in my mind.
It was her first day at school.
The classroom door opened, and she walked in slowly beside the teacher.
She looked nervous, holding the strap of her bag tightly like it will protect her from the world,as the entire class stared at her she looks shy.
The teacher introduced her.
“This is Elena Carter.”
The moment she lifted her head…
Our eyes met.
And something inside me changed instantly.
It was like the world had suddenly gone silent.
and she is the only one left.
she was so breathe taken and beautiful.
I could hear her heartbeat clearly from across the room.
Steady.
Warm.
Alive.
But it wasn’t hunger that shocked me.
It was the strange feeling in my chest.
I could actually hear my heart beating so fast I feared it will pull off.
A feeling I had not experienced in decades.
“Impossible,” I had whispered to myself.
Because in that moment…
It felt like love.
Love at first sight.
But that was absurd.
Creatures like me were not meant to feel love.
We were meant to exist in the shadows, in hidden, far away from human.
And yet every time Elena looked at me, that strange feeling returned.
Which was exactly why I warned her.
Which was why I embarrassed her in the cafeteria.
Which was why I tried to push her away.
I thought I was doing it for her, but I was actually doing it for myself.
Because the closer she came to me…
The more dangerous things would become for her.
Marcus broke my thoughts.
“So,” he said, grinning, “what’s her name?” he asked.
I hesitated for a moment, only a moment, there is no use hiding it, they will find out anyway, they always do.
Then I said it quietly.
“Elena.”
Marcus smiled.
“Well, Adrian… I hope you know what you’re doing "mom said looking concerned, I nodded.
“Humans and our kind cannot mix.”she add,I nod again.
“I know,” I replied.
But deep down, I already knew something worse was coming, and
No matter how much I tried to avoid her…
Elena Carter is already changing everything.
And I wasn’t sure I had the strength to stay away from her anymore.
but I know I will not put her in danger and me being close to her.
I mean dangerous.
a very dangerous kind of danger
one that she can not be safe from.
one that I can not save her from.
the only way forward.
I have to stay away from her.
I have to avoid her.
