Jungkook set Taehyung down on the bed with extreme care, but Taehyung’s hands stayed locked around his neck, completely dazed.
When those arms didn't loosen, Jungkook made the fatal mistake of looking up.
Suddenly, their faces weren't just close, their breath was mingling in the air, creating a mesmerizing fusion of dramatic piano and romantic guitars in the background.
At this point, zoning out whenever they locked eyes was just a normal routine now.
Taehyung was busy getting lost in the deep, dark ocean of Jungkook’s eyes, while Jungkook was fighting for his life to stay grounded in reality.
Then came Mrs. Kim, ice pack in hand. She took one look at the frozen duo and didn't even blink.
‘Zoned out again?’
‘Great’.
Stepping back into the hallway, she dramatically stomped her feet like a parade officer just to reboot their systems.
It worked like a charm.
Taehyung snapped back to reality and yanked his arms back as if burned. Jungkook immediately straightened up, blinking away the glaring awkwardness.
“Vi-hoo, sweetie, I brought ice,” Mrs. Kim said gently, sitting beside him to check his swollen ankle. Taehyung hissed at the cold contact, squeezing his eyes shut.
“It’s okay, Auntie... don’t worry,” he whispered softly.
Before she could fuss any further, Jungkook swooped in and took the ice pack right out of her hands.
“Mom, go get some rest. I’ve got this,” he said casually, practically ushering her out the door.
Yeah... definitely just basic host duties. Nothing else. He was a professional at pretending, after all.
Both Mrs. Kim and Taehyung stared at the "Determined Man of the Century" in sheer surprise.
"You sure?" she asked, prompting Taehyung's eyes to dart from the ridiculously handsome man standing over him back to the woman at his side.
Jungkook gave a firm, confident nod
‘NoNoNoNoNoNo,’ Taehyung screamed internally. His throat locked up, leaving him completely voiceless while his mind spiraled into absolute chaos.
‘Me and him? Alone in this room? Absolutely not happening.’
Mrs. Kim stood up, handing the ice pack over to her son like passing a sacred torch.
She leaned down, gently caressing Taehyung’s cheek with a warm, comforting touch.
“He WILL take care of YOU,” she promised softly
Taehyung tried to speak, but the words stayed trapped in his chest. All he could manage was a frantic, subtle shake of his head, a desperate silently pleading ‘please no.’
He thought she didn't understand.
Oh, she understood.
She understood completely, and a secret, victorious smirk threatened to break across her face as she turned to leave them to their fate.
Mrs. Kim closed the door slowly, sealing the two of them into a room suddenly thick with suffocating heat.
Taehyung stared resolutely at the ceiling, desperately praying for his heart rate to slow down.
Meanwhile, Jungkook quietly sat at the foot of the bed and cupped Taehyung’s ankle.
Then came the fatal error: Jungkook’s left thumb accidentally pressed right into the middle of Taehyung’s sole..
The touch was anything but sane to Taehyung. Turns out, Taehyung had a ticklish weak spot, and his body reacted before his brain could file a warning.
Instead of pulling back, his leg shot forward, landing an accidental kick right into Jungkook’s lower abs.
Bad move.
“Oh s**t ..I'm so sorry…” Taehyung gasped, heat rising instantly from his neck to the tips of his ears.
“It's fine.” He replied smoothly, utterly unbothered by the sudden assault. He casually applied the ice pack, his calloused fingers grazing the sensitive skin. He felt the soft vibration of Taehyung's skin at every touch. ‘He's ridiculously sensitive.’
You're not walking on this for a week," Jungkook said, keeping his eyes glued to his work. "You're staying here with Mom."
Taehyung didn't answer because he was currently shredding the silk sheets.
The pain in his ankle was long forgotten.
His brain had officially short-circuited under the sensory overload.
A small voiceless chuckle left his lips..
Detecting the absolute panic, Jungkook pressed his thumb against the sole just a tiny bit firmer. Just to tease him.
It worked.
Taehyung’s eyes snapped open, a deep, flaming blush rushing up his neck as he glared straight into the impossibly handsome face leaning over him.
‘Oh no…’
Jungkook bit back a smirk, fighting his own rising pulse.
‘God, he’s funny.’
Jungkook tried to ignore the blushing one.
At least he tried to pretend.
“Hey relax.. It's fine.” Jungkook made him relax a bit.
No teasing this time.
Taehyung took few deep breaths to suppress the heat crawling up him.
Jungkook silently glanced at him time to time. Shaking his head with a suppressed smile.
‘He is really something.’
Jungkook removed the ice pack and stood up from the bed, heading out of the room.
Taehyung partially opened his eyes to peek at what was happening. When he didn't find Jungkook there, he opened his eyes completely and looked around.
“Is he gone?” he muttered to himself. He dragged his leg closer to inspect the swelling. It was better now.
“I really embarrassed myself a lot today. Ahhhh.....”
Just then, Jungkook entered the room again with something in his hand.
Taehyung flushed seeing him again but didn't say anything, knowing he couldn't speak without stuttering.
Jungkook sat on the bed, uncapped the ointment tube, and squeezed a little onto his fingers. Then, he looked straight at Taehyung.
“May I?”
The question caught him completely off guard. An invisible thread bound their gazes together, so tightly that neither of them could even blink.
A soft "yes" slipped from his tongue, spoken without him even understanding the question fully.
Jungkook didn't break eye contact, his ice-cold fingers gently tracing the swollen area to apply the ointment.
That mere movement made Taehyung's toes twitch, his lashes flutter, and his lips part.
God knew what was going on between them.
Because both of them could swear on anything that they had never felt anything like this before. It was like some past connection was binding their souls again and again and again, so strongly that they could feel it deep within.
The bond.
The truth.
How could they recognize their connection so easily?
It was as if one could feel the exact emotion the other wished to share.
Was it a match made in heaven?
Was it destiny pulling them together?
Or was it nothing more than a sudden, overwhelming crush?
They had just met today.
Didn't they?
Or maybe they hadn't.
Who could say?
Jungkook’s phone buzzed with a notification, the sudden sound making them both flinch.
Taehyung blinked rapidly, looking away to force himself back to the present.
“I’m good now... I guess... Um, you can go and sleep. I’m really...” He looked up at Jungkook, who was still staring intently at him. “...really fine,” he completed lamely.
Jungkook finally stopped what he was doing and looked gently at the man in front of him.
“I will be leaving early tomorrow. You can stay here with Mom.”
“It’s okay... I can walk. And by the way, I’m just an apartment away.”
“You can't walk with this,” Jungkook said, pointing directly at Taehyung's swollen ankle. “You had better stay here.” This time, his voice carried a much firmer edge.
Taehyung gulped, nodding along without a fight.
'Man... he is really scary!’
Jungkook placed the ointment on the nightstand and turned back to him.
“Thank you.”
Taehyung grew confused by the sudden statement. Shouldn't he be the one saying thank you?
“No... I should be the one who is thankful-”
“... For saving my Mom,” Jungkook interrupted, his gaze filled with a profound gratitude as something deeper flickered in his eyes.
“Oh... it's fine. She is perfectly fine now, and that is what matters.”
Taehyung recalled the entire night's chaos.
The nightmare…
The unexpected meetup…
The rescue…
Everything was perfectly tied together, like a knot of destiny connecting every single incident.
But to Jungkook, what Taehyung had done was worthy of a lifetime of gratitude. He was holding onto that debt, perhaps waiting for the day he could return the favor tenfold.
“Be here. She likes you.”
Taehyung felt a wave of warmth at his words.
Jungkook turned toward the door and walked away, but halted to look over his shoulder.
“Call me if you want anything. I'm next door.”
Jungkook looked him in the eye for a second longer before heading out of the bedroom to his own room.
Taehyung clutched his chest, feeling the frantic rhythm pulsing beneath his skin. Looking into each other's eyes doesn't feel like meeting a stranger. It feels like finally returning to a place they have been searching for all their lives.
Jungkook hurriedly closed his door and leaned back against the frame.
He could sense a lingering, faint scent of sandalwood surrounding the very air he breathed.
Leaning his head back, he closed his eyes. Immersed in that warm scent and the memory of their lingering touches, he could still feel the sensation of Taehyung's soft skin pressed tightly against his chest.
He clutched his chest, his heart pounding in a fast, drumming rhythm.
A low whisper escaped him, his hot breath wrapping around the name as if holding it in a possessive, unyielding grip.
“Venus…”
