Lilith had been confidently navigating the woods for a while, skillfully stepping over obstacles, until she tripped into a puddle, splattering mud across her face. Sighing, she sat up and looked at the stars, declaring, “Gaia, Mother Goddess, send my love to my beloved. This journey reminds me of how we started.” Brushing her hair aside, she stepped into the darkness, allowing memories of her first meeting with Claudius to flood back.
It was the summer solstice when she was fourteen and gathering herbs for the festival. Suddenly, piercing screams echoed through the woods. Dropping her baskets, she sprinted toward the sound, her heart racing. She collided with Claudius, who offered his hand, but she declined. “We’re both here for the same reason,” she said. Just then, they heard the cries again and ran toward them.
A short while later, they spotted a young girl named Cassie, who was facing a wild grizzly bear. “CASSIE!” Lilith yelled as she dashed forward. Claudius, worried, shouted for her to stop. Standing between the bear and the girl, Lilith noticed Claudius preparing to attack but hesitating as Cassie screamed for mercy. The bear swiped at him, sending him tumbling. “HEY, THAT'S NOT VERY NICE!” Lilith shouted at the bear and then punched it on the nose. Startled, the bear retreated, allowing Cassie to escape. Claudius was amazed by Lilith’s bravery.
Just then, Lilith's dress got caught on a twig, causing her to fall. Feeling lost and vulnerable, she began to sing a calming song her father had taught her. After freeing her dress, she felt the wind around her. When she opened her eyes, she saw a beautiful Victorian cottage nestled by the river, hidden deep in the woods.
