Cassiel looked exhausted as he pushed the motorcycle back to the mansion and put it on its stand. He held my hand as we walked inside, as if he was afraid I might slip away from his grasp.
I wouldn’t run. I just needed the truth.
Because whatever was happening to Cassiel was strange. I mean, what had happened between us too… I don’t know. It felt like too much, too fast.
Still, I didn’t regret it. I felt a strong connection between Cassiel and me. But there was a wall between us, one that hadn’t been broken yet.
As soon as the door opened, I saw Daniel waiting, his anger barely contained.
“I’m begging you, Alpha. Get her out of here!” Daniel shouted, pointing straight at me.
“Danny, I don’t want to argue with you. But Lune stays here. With me!” Cassiel’s voice was just as loud.
“She’s a witch! I saw what she did! Stay away from her, Alpha! We don’t know whose spy Lune is!”
Witch? A spy? What the hell was going on?
I looked back and forth between Cassiel and Daniel. My body started to tremble, but Cassiel never let go of my hand.
“Alpha, please, listen to me—”
“Silence!” Cassiel cut him off, and his eyes flashed amber.
Daniel dropped to his knees, clutching his throat. A pained groan followed.
From the staircase, two maids rushed down and grabbed Daniel. They were crying, begging Cassiel.
“Please, Alpha!”
“Alpha Cassiel, calm yourself!”
“Cassiel! What is this? Cassiel!” I shook his arm. “For God’s sake, Cassiel!”
But he didn’t move. His eyes grew redder, and it was the most terrifying thing I had ever seen. I tried to pull away from him, but his grip tightened.
“I make the decisions here. Not you! You should know your place, Daniel!” Cassiel growled, his voice sending chills through me.
Seeing Daniel writhing on the floor, the maids crying, it all made me panic.
“Cassiel, please…” I sobbed. “Calm down. Don’t do this. I’m begging you.”
The air turned suffocating. Daniel kept convulsing on the floor while the maids tried to soothe Cassiel’s rage.
What was really happening? Why had things escalated this far? None of this made sense to my human mind, but I didn’t want Daniel to die.
“STOP IT!” I screamed. “Stop all of this madness!”
The floor shook. Everything in the room rattled. Cassiel’s grip loosened, and I staggered back a few steps.
My body burned, adrenaline surging through me. I couldn’t stop it.
Crash!
Glass shattered everywhere. Windows exploded into pieces.
“Ahhh!” I screamed, crouching down and covering my ears.
This was insane. What was happening to me? God, please get me out of this.
Warm arms wrapped around me.
“Calm down, Lune. I’m here. You’re safe with me,” Cassiel whispered.
Slowly, I looked around at the ruined room. Everyone was staring at me with expressions of confusion, fear, and awe.
“She’s a—”
“I know what she is!” Cassiel snapped, cutting Daniel off. Then he turned to me. “We’ll talk calmly, okay? That’s what I told you earlier, remember?”
I nodded weakly. My knees gave out, and I couldn’t stand anymore. Cassiel lifted me as if I weighed nothing and carried me in his arms.
The scent of lavender surrounded me as he took me to the bedroom. Carefully, he laid me on the bed and gently wiped away my tears.
“Don’t cry anymore, okay?” His eyes were soft as they looked at me.
“What happened? What is all of this, Cassiel?”
“It’s a long story. But before that, I want to show you something.”
Cassiel stepped away from the bed and took a deep breath. His eyes glowed yellow. The air grew heavy and oppressive.
Then his body changed into a wolf.
A massive black wolf with four powerful legs. He growled, radiating dominance that left me frozen.
Cassiel… Cassiel was a werewolf?
…
I couldn’t deny what I had seen with my own eyes.
Cassiel was a werewolf.
It was insane, impossible. But when Cassiel shifted, I knew it wasn’t a dream. What kind of fate had bound me to Cassiel? Why did it have to be me?
But no.
That wasn’t the worst part.
There was another hidden story, buried in darkness.
Cassiel lived under a curse. An ancient spirit named Machar resided inside his body. Whenever Machar awakened, Cassiel was powerless.
The two maids, Carlyn and Aislin, were witches who tried to suppress Machar’s influence, but only temporarily.
Cassiel had been searching for an artifact to break the curse. Because over time, his body was slowly being consumed, taken over by Machar, no matter how hard he fought.
And the universe played a cruel joke with our fates.
I was his mate.
Cassiel wanted me, and so did Machar. That was why Cassiel tried to protect me at all costs, so I wouldn’t fall into Machar’s grasp.
Because every woman who had ever been with Cassiel ended up possessed by Machar.
And they all died.
“Died?” I stared at Cassiel, fear creeping into my chest.
“I never meant to hurt them by the Moon Goddess, Lune. It was all Machar. I never knew what was happening.”
Cassiel looked devastated. He dragged a hand through his hair, breathing unevenly. His face was dark with unbearable guilt.
I didn’t know what it felt like to have someone use your body to commit horrors you couldn’t stop.
But I imagined it would destroy me.
“I was terrified,” Cassiel said, his eyes glassy. “When Machar took control, and he did that to you. The first time we met.”
“What do you mean?”
“At your father’s garage, Lune.”
A vague memory surfaced. That strange dream. An erotic dream.
I jolted upright, staring at him in disbelief. “Wait. That wasn’t a dream? It was real?”
“I’m sorry, Lune. I woke up and saw you were still alive, then I left because I was scared. I was afraid Machar would do something again. God.”
I had been left confused, thinking it was all just a dream. Then Cassiel appeared, like he was my salvation.
When it was all a lie.
“Oh my God. How could you do this to me, Cassiel?”
“You left me?” I shouted. “I could have died! God, Cassiel, how could you!”
“By the Moon Goddess, by the sky and the earth, I will never let Machar touch you again, Lune!”
“Get out!” I pointed toward the door.
“Lune, please. Just listen to me—”
“I said get out!!”
