Chapter 25: Power Awakening

909 Words
POV: Thelma The shockwave hit like a physical force, rippling out from where Theo and I stood. I felt it pass through my body, carrying our combined power across the territory and beyond. The white-gold light that had blazed between us moments ago didn't just fade, it exploded outward in waves that made the air shimmer. Every wolf in Luna's pack dropped to their knees, including the warriors who'd been watching our fight. Their heads bowed automatically, responding to an Alpha command we hadn't even spoken. "What's happening?" I gasped, watching the light continue to spread. Luna struggled to her feet, fighting against the pressure of our power. Her face was pale. "You've awakened something that hasn't existed in generations. True Alpha twins. The combined power signature is broadcasting across the supernatural network like a beacon." "A beacon?" Theo's voice was sharp with alarm. "You mean.." "Every pack, every Alpha, every supernatural being within a hundred miles just felt that pulse." Luna's expression shifted from awe to fear. "They know exactly what you are. And they know exactly where you are." My stomach dropped. "How long do we have?" "Minutes. Maybe an hour if we're lucky." Luna turned to her Beta. "Mobilize everyone. Full defensive positions. Send runners to activate our allied packs. We're about to be under siege." The Beta took off running, shouting orders. Warriors scrambled to their feet and rushed to defensive positions. The entire pack erupted into controlled chaos. Theo grabbed my arm, and the moment we touched, that white-gold light flickered between us again. We both jerked back, startled. "Don't touch me," he said, but his voice lacked the hatred from before. Now he just sounded scared. "That power, when we connect.." "It amplifies," I finished, staring at my hands. "Our individual gifts merge into something stronger." "Something that just announced our existence to every predator in the region." Theo ran his hands through his hair, a gesture so familiar it made my chest ache. I did the same thing when I was stressed. "Do you understand what you've done? What we've done?" "I didn't do anything!" I shot back. "You're the one who challenged me to a death match!" "Because I didn't believe you were real!" His eyes flashed gold. "I thought you were a fake, a spy, anything but actually my sister. But now.." He gestured to the chaos around us. "Now everyone knows. Alpha twins. The rarest and most powerful combination in werewolf history. We're not just targets anymore, Thelma. We're the ultimate prize." Luna approached us cautiously, keeping her distance. "He's right. Separately, you're both valuable. Together, you're worth more than entire territories. Marcus will want you for your blood magic access. Damien will want to eliminate you as threats. Every ambitious Alpha will want to control you or kill you before someone else does." "So what do we do?" I asked. "We run," Theo said immediately. "We take what we can carry and disappear before.." "It's too late for that." Luna pointed to the sky. "Look." Dark shapes were circling above us. Ravens. But not normal ravens, these were shifters, scout birds from multiple packs. They'd felt our power surge and came to investigate. "How many packs?" Theo asked grimly. "At least five that I can identify from their scout signatures," Luna said. "More are probably on their way." A howl echoed in the distance. Then another. And another. The sound made my blood run cold, it was the hunting cry of packs on the move. "They're coming," I whispered. Theo looked at me, and for the first time since we'd met, I saw something other than resentment in his eyes. I saw the same fear I felt. "We can't fight them all." "We don't have to fight them all." Luna's voice was hard. "We just have to survive long enough to fortify our position and call in our allies." She turned to us. "Both of you, inside the pack house. Now. You're too valuable to risk in the initial clash." "I'm not hiding while people fight for me," I protested. "You're not hiding. You're being strategic." Luna grabbed my shoulder, her grip firm. "Every pack out there wants you alive or dead. If they see you in the battle, they'll focus everything on capturing you. Inside, you're a protected asset. Out here, you're a target that will get my warriors killed trying to defend you." She was right, and I hated it. But before I could agree, another wave of power washed over us. This one was different, colder, more controlled. It felt like Xavier. Through our mate bond, I felt him. He was close. Very close. And he was afraid. "Xavier's here," I said, my hand going to my chest where the bond pulled tight. Theo's expression darkened immediately. "Your Silver Moon mate. Come to drag you back to his pack." "Or to help," I said defensively. "He fought his own father for me." "And you ran away from him anyway," Theo shot back. "So which is it, sister? Is he your enemy or your savior? Because we need to know before he reaches our gates." I opened my mouth to answer, but Luna cut me off. "It doesn't matter what he is to her. What matters is that Damien sent his son as an envoy. That means the Silver Moon pack wants to negotiate, not attack. At least not yet." "Or it's a trap," Theo said.
