Mike stood up and shook off the leaves from his grey sweats and straightened his hoody. Taking off the hood from his head he felt the cold wind blow across his face. "Leaving already?" he heard her voice flow to his ears and a small grin drew on his face. Something about her voice always made him smile. He turned around and held out his hand. Her brown eyes looked up at him, she sat up on the grassy field and held his hand. He pulled her up then held her close to him. "Damn, somebody's been working out," she teased him squeezing his arms. " I...I try" he said, scratching the back of his head with his hand. She looked straight at him and his eyes turned away. "Anyway, we've got to get back home, your parents must be worried." "My dad's jealous of you," she giggled walking away. He shrugged, " I'm spending more time with his daughter than he is, of course he's burning up on the inside." "Wipe that dumb grin off your face you." " What," he walked up to her side," I'm just stating.." " A fact. " He grinned, "I see what you did there." She turned back to him and winked. It's called mind reading. " Yeah yeah madam psychic, you just know I say that a lot.... I guess." They walked out of the play field and finally stepped on the hard tarmac. The streets were painted a warm orange by the setting sun. People were still moving around, kids running and screaming and shouting, cars roaring and speeding, this was home, Garden Estate. " ...ey, Mike, hey...yo!" "What? What's up? Again, did it happen again?" She looked at him her eyes glowing with warm concern, " Yeah, we were talking and you just went quiet and stared into nothing, but this time it was different." " How so?" " You were.... gone, it kinda felt like you weren't here at all." He laughed and poked at her ribs, " Don't look so worried, I'm just a little tired from work is all, gone? Where? I'm still here Star, you don't have to worry. I just need a little rest. I felt okay though, maybe I'll just get some rest." " Yeah, you need to take some time off from work, come on you're just a kid, you don't have to force yourself so much it's insane how much work you're doing. I mean we just graduated from high school, you don't have to push yourself so much.." " Says the one who spends Sher nights painting, how many hours of sleep have you even had this week?" " Well, I..." " Exactly...you have no excuse do you," he held her hands looking straight into her eyes, " You how things, with my mom.... I wanna try my best too and then there's you..." "Shantel, Shantel, what're you gonna do with this big baby," she said holding her hands against her cheeks. " You just turned nineteen a week ago, I've been eighteen for two months there's not much of a difference, " he nagged. " Tsk tsk baby boy that's not how you talk to your elders," she teased, waving her index finger at him and smiled when she could see the irritation in his forced smile. "You're enjoying this aren't you." " Just stating a fact," she shrugged and walked away, " I'm almost home." He looked at her walk away, "Hey!" She pressed her finger on the doorbell and turned around, " Yeah, what's up." He walked closer to her, "Eat up, stay warm, it's gonna be cold tonight, don't sleep too lateake care of my Star when I'm not around." Her face feel flushed and she looked down at the ground, she puckered up her lips and looked really pouty. Her arms opened up and she ran to him, her arms folded around him . She felt everything go silent, all she could feel was him in her arms, it wasn't about the world anymore just the two of them..She lifted her head from the crook of his neck then looked at his eyes. "Hey, you're doing it again," she tapped on his shoulder. His body was stiff.. something was different. She'd always felt like the were alone... when she was in his arms...but why was everything silent....why wasn't anyone moving. She looked around then she felt something around them. Something was pulling her, but everyone was silent. Not a scream, not a shout, not a gust of wind not a single sound. Ring! She felt a painful ring in her fingers. Ring! The pain shot up to her head. Ring! Her whole body rang, she felt her muscles contract, twist, then there was no more pain. Just a heavy silence. ring! Ring! RING! Her body tensed up and she could barely breathe, all she could feel was a painful light filling her mind, filling her eyes, filling her body. M...m.i....Mi.... Plea....se.... Her mind was going blank and all she could do as she felt her whole existence body and mind drown and fill up with the overwhelming light was hold on tight to what was before her. As she lost her breath, her consciousness she reached out and grabbed on to a glimmer of hope. Mike....help me please! She finally sunk, drowned and as she started to give up on the struggle, she felt it. Around her back on the back of her head. As she held on tight she felt him hold her tighter and finally in the moment that felt like and eternity, she gave in the struggle was over. Come what may, as long as she was with him..... We beseech thy power, oh great hero!
