Chapter Nineteen

2183 Words
Jad and Red barged out of the car with speed, both not caring about the car Red failed to park well. It was left at the entrance of the gate, inviting the security man to chase after them. The man called after them and when they both didn't spare him a look, he kept on following after them. Red could've just retired from running, gone to talk to him and then ran back into the hospital. His brain wasn't at the moment, functioning properly. They climbed the staircases as he kept on running after them but as soon as Red showed his badge as he ran while communicating with him from behind, he came to a dead lock and went back to his desk. Jad was first to enter into the doctor's room, not even caring if the security man still kept on following them or not. Seeing it was empty, he hopped out again and Red followed behind him closely. They saw a nurse they recognized the other time they brought Ken in and asked Grace's whereabouts from her. They were asked to wait a little more since she was in the emergency room. They were impatient but they had no choice than to wait. Jad tapped his foot loudly on the ground as Red moved in circles, cracking his knuckles. They had no idea what had happened but Jad had a feeling it wasn't something they would love to hear about. Red must've dozed off because he quickly stood up as soon as Jad also stood from the bench...if not, he would've fallen from the bench instead. “What happened? We came immediately you called. What was it about?" Jad demanded from her as she got nearer to them. “Ken's blood pressure went too high, we nearly lost him. We were able to control it and we were glad he hadn't gone far away and was able to bring him back," she sighed while holding her chest. “Really? What must have happened? You told us he was doing well," Red almost shouted at her. Grace didn't mistake the anger in his voice but she ignored the anger and replied him carefully, "Yes he was doing well but I'm not the machine. Our blood pressure isn't stable. It changes every seconds. The machine couldn't read and monitor his heart so it alerted us. We thought we were losing him so I called to let you know," she raised her hands up and went on, "Of course not that you had the power to save him though but I thought I should still let you know." Red's head shook in agreement as she opened her mouth to say more, "We believe the patient was gaining consciousness but got emotional. Since he hears everything even when he is unconscious, so I'm sure his emotions kicked in. That must have also been caused by fear. Maybe he remembered what happened to him and got frightened. It happens a few times.” She placed both her hands in the pockets of her coat and continued, "During this stage; I mean when they begin to wake up, the patients begin to remember everything especially the day they went unconscious. Most of them go through this. But Ken is a fighter, he didn't give up on life. He keeps fighting for it.” “So is he going to experience that again?" Red wondered, folding his arms together and later raising the right arm to tickle the little heard he refused to shape that week, on his chin. “Well all patients are different. I can't say right now. But there's both a high and slow chance of it happening again. Would you like to see him?" Her hands moved behind her to show the room Ken was now moved into. “No, not today. Maybe later, when we come here again," Red replied after getting the look he was expecting from his partner. Jad nodded as he held his palms together, waiting for her to assure them he would be doing fine even when he still went through something like that again. “He's out of danger now, still yet to recover. Almost like starting from where it all started again therefore he's under serious medical watch so don't worry, his health would be fine. If you don't mind, I have patients to take care of. I'll update you on his condition every time we reach a phase. See you next time, bye," she waved at them while she hurriedly walked away into another room. “OK, so I'm guessing it wasn't that really bad. He survived it, let's hope it doesn't happen again," Jad told Red as if he had the power to stop it from happening another time. Red took in a deep breath and shook his head harshly before declaring, "This case would've been suspended by now, should we be dealing with normal people. Why did you take down this case anyway?” “You are helping me with this or not? I asked you to help me and you accepted to do so, don't tell me you are backing down now," he also hissed at him, not sounding so angry but tired instead. *** Tyler and his dad had been playing football the whole day and Marisca wondered if none of them realized they hadn't eaten anything yet since the breakfast they took. Marisca's eyes lingered outside as she saw her son passing the ball to his dad cheerfully. He started jumping with joy, showing his victory for scoring David. Marisca knew the man intentionally allowed the little boy to score. She clearly saw him separating his legs to make more room for the ball to pass through. She smiled and took in a deep breath. Her sigh left a foggy appearance on the window pane. Marisca waved at David when both their eyes met. She gestured for him to come inside. He stood there for a while as if he were considering it. He then grinned at her and carried Tyler without warning, running into the house. Putting Tyler down, David unconsciously removed his shirt over his head. Sweats drained from his chest down to his stomach and he cleaned it with the shirt. Marisca's eyes followed his every movement. He threw his shirt into one of the chairs and walked over to her. She looked into his eyes, trying her best not to let her eyes wander down to his abs. Tyler ran to his mother and wrapped his arms around her waist as his head rested on her stomach. “You called us back in here, anything special going on? You missed us that much?" David jested as he pushed himself forward to them. But when little drops of water from the bottle that was pressed against his lips, suddenly fell on his stomach, she swallowed. Looking away, David caught on unto the action and smirked. “Liked what you saw?" He teased, greeting her with a quick peck on the cheeks. “Ewww talking about your sweat? Go away with your stinky body," she tried to hide the suffusion of her face. “Oh come on, you were spying me. I saw that. All you have to do is ask, you know that. You are free to touch them too. And I liked us sleeping together. We can do...” “Shut up," she whispered while putting her index finger on her lips. Her eyes moved from Tyler to him. His smile widened when he realized what she was telling him. He mouthed 'oh' to her and walked away from them, leaving his shirt all alone in the chair. After Tyler was done eating, Marisca went upstairs with David's shirt in her hand. She gently knocked and leaned on the other side of the wall, folding her arms on her chest. She tapped on the door again, harshly. She stiffened a laughter when she heard his groan. “What is..." He shouted but halted as soon as he opened the door to find Marisca behind it. He raised an eye brow in curiosity as if he didn't want her there, in front of him. “You left this downstairs," she threw it into his face and continued, "Why do you leave your stuff around as if you are still in nursery?” He moved inside his room, expecting her to follow him in. But she stood where she was, not wanting to move a foot. He threw a questioned look at her and she slowly walked in. Closing the door behind her, she walked closer to his bed and sat on it as he entered into another room. “I need to do this often," he yelled from his washroom. “Need to do what often?" She also shouted back. “Throw my dresses in front of you so you'll follow me upstairs," he answered with a smile on his face. She rolled her eyes and he again screamed, "I can feel...infact i know you are rolling your eyes.” “Oh really now?" She murmured, stretching her body on the bed. “Yes, because I know you enough to know you rolled your eyes when I said that," he came back into the room right in time to see the colour that crept on her face. “We seriously need to talk," David told suddenly, breaking the comfortable silence that was there few seconds ago. His eye brows met and his lips drew a thin line. He held his cheeks in with his teeth clutching nervously on them both as if preventing himself from saying it all in a rush. “Yes we need to talk," she repeated, staring at the ceiling. “I know..." before David could say more, Tyler burst into the room laughing with his uncle chasing him inside. Damn can't we have a little privacy sometimes? David angrily glared at Dean who ignored him to smile at Marisca. “Dad it's nice seeing mum in here with you. I was wondering why you two don't share a room together. Why don't you share this room? Isn't it big enough?" He innocently inquired, making his dad look at Dean as if he were responsible for the young boy's questions. Tyler's eyes seemed he had meant the question and needed answers. Marisca didn't know what to say. She had never thought of him asking her such a question. She knew he would but she didn't know it would be that soon. As David thought of something and was about to answer; his phone started belling, distracting everyone from the little boy's awkward question. To Dean, it wouldn't have been that difficult answering the question. He had thought of answer but he loved watching the two of them burn with uneasiness. He kept tickling Tyler as he laughed and called out to his mum to save him. She knew he wasn't exactly wanting or expecting her to save him, so she ignored them after throwing a smile at her son. David returned to the room with a frown on his face. “It's a call from Jad. Ken almost lost his life today. His blood pressure went high and he...it would be sad losing him. He was more than a co worker to us. He was like a big brother or perhaps I would love to say father," he worriedly whispered to them. “Yes, he was someone who kept everything running in our absence. He advised and even led us most at times. He was more than a friend. It would be sad to lose him," Dean sadly added. Marisca felt bad. She felt she was responsible. The culprit came in there for Leah or her. And instead of focusing on how to survive, she was busily lusting over a man, happily living with her son and best friend as if everything were fine. She felt horrible. She totally forgot about him. She only offered to pay for his medical expenses... She did pay but she forgot about him after that. But what was there to do? She wasn't that good at praying so she was lost. As if David could read her mind. He quickly explained, "See, don't worry too much. Who knows, maybe the culprit was after him. He may be cool and all good but you know people like that have their bad sides too. Don't worry your head too much.” “Come on, David is right. Besides he's someone who wouldn't mind laying his life down for another person," Dean also expressed, totally forgetting that thought was exactly why she was feeling bad. Tyler searched their faces, lost and wondering why his mother was sad. He didn't know who they were talking about and who called his dad but then he knew for sure the news he was given wasn't a pleasant one. As childish as he was, he told himself he would hurt the person before he or she tried to get closer to his mother or father.
