Chapter 7

My eyes swept the lounge and landed on a person, a very delicate being, why was she everywhere or was I imagining her again. Watching her brought me peace, she looked very majestic as the disco lights danced on her features, she was with her cousin…and a man?. •Halle’s POV• Maria and Pierre cheered as we opened the wine, it was relaxing watching them get along. Pierre was our childhood friend, his family lived close to ours but as we grew older we all went our separate ways until he called and informed us that he was back in France and we should have a reunion. I took pictures to send to Bonny and Amanda as we wined and dined. “So how was London?.” I asked Pierre, when we were younger he had always longed to be a journalist in London and now he was living his dream. “It was delightful, I’m working on this project for the government and hopefully it’ll be a hit.” Pierre chirped. “How’s your dream man?” Pierre asked, making Maria and me glance at each other. “He’s our friend, tell him already.” Maria voiced. “We’re divorced, he’s a psychopath who’s out to ruin my life and dreams,” I said as I gulped on my wine. “When did this happen?” Pierre questioned. “A few years after we had Amanda,” I mumbled. “I’m so sorry, how are you coping?” He pressed. “I’m doing all I can to get her custody, he’s just making it difficult, we’ve been on it for two years now.” I voiced. Maria glanced at Pierre for a while before looking back at me. “I’ll go get us some food”. She informed me as she walked away, Pierre scuttled closer to me. “I’m sorry to see you hurting.” He started. “I knew he wasn’t good for you but you would’ve just told me I was being jealous but I was the only one who loved you so much, I still do and no day goes by that I don't think of you,” Pierre uttered as he glided his fingers on my cheek making me wriggle. “I miss what we had before Jeromy came along,” Pierre said as he etched his face closer to mine causing me to shift uncomfortably. “P-please stop Pierre,” I said as he forcefully held my chin as he was about to kiss me. Pierre was tossed to the floor right before his lips touched mine, a gasp escaped my mouth as he landed on a table, the crowd went silent as everyone stared at Roman. He walked over and punched Pierre continuously causing him to bleed. I ran over to separate him from Pierre. “She said stop you shithead,” Roman said as he continued hitting him. “Roman stop, you’re hurting him,” I yelled as I struggled to pull Roman off him, I managed to push him off and rushed to check on Pierre, he was brutally injured with his face covered in blood. “What is wrong with you, You could’ve killed him,” I yelled at Roman with rage. “Well he deserves it, he tried to touch you.” Roman pressed. “Leave. Get out!.” I shouted as I cradled Pierre, Maria rushed to my side as we aided him up. We drove to a hospital to get him cleaned up. “Are you for real?.” Maria muttered in annoyance. “I didn’t know he was to be there and he acted out cause Pierre was trying to touch me,” I replied. “Why are you defending him, he hurt our friend.” Maria voiced as she paced. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for any of it to happen,” I mumbled, Pierre walked out of the ward with his wrist and head in bandages. “I’m so sorry Pierre,” I said as I dashed towards him. “It’s fine, it wasn’t your fault.” He said as he patted my cheek. Maria and I drove home after he boarded a taxi, The drive was silent as guilt feasted on me, my skirt was covered in blood and my hands kept shaking. I briefed Bonny about the ordeal when I got home. “He’s obviously jealous and I also never liked Pierre, he’s annoying and was obsessed with you,” Bonny replied over the phone. “Roman is being difficult .” I groaned. “Maybe because he’s in love with you, no gentleman would get in trouble with a whiny journalist for no reason, he’s surely head over heels for you,” Bon muttered. “I can’t have this, you know my main priority is Mandy and I’ve put her through a lot already.” I said as my mind wandered off. “I’ve always got your back, you need a little romance in your life, you’ve been away from love for three years Halle, I can't have you give up on love.” Bonny replied. “I’ll be fine Bon.” I mumbled, we babbled for a while before calling it a night. I woke up extremely late feeling drained from the events of last night. I freshened up for the rest of the day and went down for breakfast. The tension in the air made me shift in my seat as I could tell Maria was still mad at me for last night. I decided to go back home as I’ve caused enough trouble and seeing Roman’s face made me sick, I booked a flight scheduled for the next day and prepared my belongings in case I decided to rot in the room till I leave. I spent time by knitting a sweater for Mandy as I talked on the phone with Bonny till evening, the rainy weather brought peace leaving me in a world of my own. “Halle,” Maria called on the other side of my door, breaking my daze. “Pierre’s here to see you.” She spoke as I opened the door. “I’m not mad at you, I just couldn’t believe your boss would do that to our friend.” She added as I was about to head downstairs, I gave a subtle smile at her before going downstairs. Pierre was already seated with Aunt Marilyn on the balconette.
