Riley’s pov That morning, I woke up to the sound of my alarm blaring. I groaned, dragging myself out of bed. My body felt heavy and my mind was clouded with exhaustion, but I couldn’t afford to stay in bed. There was too much to do. I had to get the house in order, make sure things were tidy, and most importantly, I needed to check in on my mom. I reached for my phone and sent a quick text to the caregiver assigned to her by the hospital. She had been in a coma since the surgery, but the doctor assured me she would be fine. It was hard to believe that sometimes, but I had to hold on to hope. Just as I was about to drop my phone, it buzzed again with a new message. I frowned and opened it. ‘Get dressed. The driver is coming to pick you up in a few hours.’ the text said, very direct
