Chapter 02.
A BIG MISTAKE.
Daphne's POV.
“Greg,” Emily lowered herself, and put her hands on his shoulder. “Why don't you go out to play, mommy will join you soon?”
She smiled and dropped a kiss on his forehead. Without saying a word, he turned, and exited the room. She closed her eyes, clutched her chest with a hand, and sighed.
Opening her eyes, she stood upright, closed the door, and turned to face me. As I met with her gaze, my heart sank. The look on her face was the kind that meant she needed to know there truth and nothing but the truth. There was nothing to hide from her; he made me do it. But would she believe?
“Why?” she asked.
Her voice shook with tears.
“I–I don't understand.” she said, blinking back tears. “How long has this been going on?”
Gabriel and I glanced at each other. If anything, I expected him to say something. Perhaps, explain to her so that she wouldn't get the wrong idea of things even though it was obvious that she did already.
However, he didn't say a word, and it didn't look like he would.
“I'm sorry, Em.” I said with downcast eyes. “I know I have no excuse right now, but it hasn't happened before.”
“You really want me to believe that it hasn't happened before?” she scoffed, her eyes burning with tears. “I just need you to tell me the truth, Daphne. How long has this been going on?”
“No, you're getting it all wrong…”
The rest of the words died in my throat as Gabriel began to speak.
“I am sorry, sweetheart.” he walked away from my side, and stood next to her. “She caused it.”
“What?” I crinkled my face.
“She came in here while I was looking out through the window.” he said. “I was expecting her to drop the food she brought, and leave. But she stood right there.”
“What do you mean?” I asked, blinking my eyes in shock. “Why are you lying? Come on, tell her the truth.”
“You have to believe me, sweetheart.” he said, pressing a hand to his chest. “She came in here just to seduce me. I should have known better when she refused to leave. Look where she dropped the meal you asked her to give to me.”
He pointed a finger to the bedside table. My heart sank.
“No,” I said, shaking my head as tears began to form in my eyes. “That is not what happened; he's lying. He forced me to do it. I pleaded with him not to, but he refused.”
“Will you really believe her?” he asked, pointing at me. “She is only lying. She has only ever wanted to break us apart, and one chance she gets, she takes it.”
He framed her face, and turned it to himself.
“I know I messed up, but if you think I'm lying, then take a look at what she's putting on.” he turned to me. “If she only came with the intention of bringing my food like you asked her to, then she wouldn't put on something like that.”
It was a dress above my knees. But I didn't have any intention of seducing him when I wore it. It'd been in my wardrobe for almost two years now, and I hadn't worn it, not even for once.
Nate bought it for me as a birthday gift just few days before we broke up. I didn't see any reason to put it on because it reminded me of him, which I hated. But then, two years was long enough to get over him, and that was why I decided to put it on: because I believed that I'd finally gotten over him.
“No, that's not true.” I said, shaking my head. “I–I didn't have any intention to seduce him with this dress.”
“That is exactly what she would say to you, but I will never lie to you.” he said, looking into her eyes. “We have been together for so long. So why should I betray your trust for me? I mean, our son is going to be six in the next couple of days.”
“He is lying to you.” I said, in a broken voice. “I tried to warn him, but he didn't listen to me. He told me that he's fallen out of love with you, and that he wants me, you've to believe me, Em.”
I took her hands in mine.
“He is only making it up.” I said, my voice sounding strained all of a sudden. “Yes, I know I messed up, but I would never do anything to hurt or ruin your marriage.”
“But you just did.” she said, her voice was as cold as the look in her eyes. “I trusted you, Daphne, and that was the more reason why I allowed you to live here with me.”
A cold sweat filmed my body.
“You just have to believe me; he's lying.” I said, a tear trickled down the side of my nose. “I know I messed up, but I didn't seduce him. He was the one that did so.”
“Give me one good reason why I should believe every word you say right now?” she asked, her voice husky with tears. “For goodness sake! You're my sister! Even if you felt something for him, you should have known better than to allow those feelings grow.”
I fell silent. On that part, I was guilty. She was right: I should have killed those feelings for him when it was still an infant. However, I'd it under control, until he made that reckless move tonight.
If he hadn't made that move, then things wouldn't have turned out the way it did. Or perhaps, if he'd just listened to me, then things wouldn't have turned out the way it did.
“You just have to believe me, Em.” I said, letting go of her hand as I went on my knees. “I would never do anything to hurt you.”
“It is too late for that now.” she said, her voice as hard as steel. “You made a mistake, and you've to suffer for it. Next time, you'll know better than to allow yourself to be controlled by your feelings.”
“Please, don't do this to me, Em.” I lifted my pain darkened eyes to her. “I know I made a mistake, but forgive me this once, please, I beg of you.”
“You will only repeat the same mistake if I let this slide.” she wiped off the tears on her face with the back of her hand. “I am sorry, Daphne. But you've to pay for your sins.”
She turned her back to me. That was all I needed to know that she'd made up her mind, and there was nothing that I would say or do, that would change it.
“Are you out there, Tyler?” she asked, trying to steady her voice.
“Yes, alpha.” Tyler walked in. “What do you need me to do?”
“She has made a big mistake.” she said, looking over her shoulder. “I need you to escort her to the Black Room.”
As her words fell upon my ears, every nerve in my body seemed to shrink.
“No, please, not the black room. Em, please.” I pleaded with tears in my eyes.
“Take her away.” she said, leaving the room.
“Em, please!”
