Chapter 19
Reine couldn’t move. Her hands were tied behind her back, and her feet too, and the gag from the bedsheet was in her mouth, cutting into her lips. She heard a loud buzzing and knew fire alarms were going off in the building. Karen was lying on her side next to her, her hands and feet tied, gagged as well. She knew this couldn’t be good for her, as pregnant as she was.
Luke was still unmoving, and she could see only his feet. She knew the yelling behind her was Suzanne, muffled because she was gagged. As Reine moved and rolled, she could see Suzanne tied to a chair. She knew the smell was from the gas stove, because she’d watched as they’d tied each of them and set down the blowtorch.
One of the men had said, “Found your safe. Don’t worry. It will be quick and painless.”
