Late spring came with a pleasant surprise when Phoebe's teacher disclosed a district-wide educational competition that would oppose students showing excellence in different subjects while working together with teammates from other schools, causing Phoebe to feel both happy and anxious as she considered whether to take part.
"The competition includes math, science, literature, and creative problem-solving," said Mrs. Patterson noted during the initial meeting, "Teams will consist of three students from different schools, so participants will need to work effectively with unfamiliar partners."
That evening, Phoebe informed her parents, "That sounds extremely difficult, but kind of exciting." Essentially, I'm not certain if I'm smart enough to compete with students from other schools.
