Selena noticed it first in the little things. Bonny was smiling more often, humming to herself as she walked through the house. When she returned from her now-frequent trips to the cafe, her cheeks were flushed, and there was a lightness in her step that Selena hadn’t seen since the heartbreak with Draven.
Curiosity got the better of her one evening as they sat together in the living room. Bonny had just come back from the cafe, her face glowing with happiness. Selena set down her book, her green eyes narrowing slightly.
“You’ve been spending a lot of time at that cafe lately,” Selena said casually, trying to keep her tone light. “What’s going on?”
Bonny’s cheeks turned pink, and she looked down at her hands, twisting a ring on her finger. “It’s nothing,” she said, but the smile tugging at her lips betrayed her.
“Bonny,” Selena pressed, leaning forward. “You’re practically glowing. Come on, tell me. Did something happen?”
Bonny hesitated for a moment before letting out a small laugh. “Okay, fine. There’s… someone I’ve been talking to.”
Selena’s eyebrows shot up. “Someone? As in a guy?”
Bonny nodded, her smile widening. “I… I met him at the cafe. We kept running into each other, and eventually, we started talking. He’s really sweet, Selena. We’ve had coffee together a few times now.”
Selena tilted her head, a small smile playing on her lips. “Okay, and who is this mystery man? What’s his name?”
Bonny’s blush deepened, and she looked up at Selena with a sheepish grin. “His name’s Isaac.”
Selena froze, her breath hitching as the name hit her like a punch to the gut. Her hands clenched into fists, and her heart began to race. She stared at Bonny, her mind reeling.
“Isaac who?” Selena asked, her voice low and strained.
Bonny blinked, confused by the sudden change in Selena’s demeanor. “Isaac Frostblood. Why?”
Selena shot to her feet, her chair scraping loudly against the floor. “You can’t see him again,” she said sharply, her green eyes blazing with anger and fear.
Bonny flinched at Selena’s tone, her confusion turning to concern. “What? Why not? What’s going on?”
Selena’s chest heaved as she struggled to contain her emotions. “Because he’s dangerous, Bonny. He… he destroyed my clan. He’s the reason they’re all gone.”
Bonny’s eyes widened in shock, and her hand flew to her mouth. “What?” she whispered. “Selena, are you serious?”
Selena nodded, her voice trembling with rage. “Yes, Bonny. Isaac Frostblood is the one who led the attack that killed my family, my friends, my entire pack. And now you’re telling me you’ve been sitting and chatting with him like he’s some… some harmless stranger?”
Tears welled in Bonny’s eyes as she stared at Selena. “I didn’t know,” she choked out. “I didn’t know who he was. He was so kind, so easy to talk to. I… I even told him about you.”
Selena’s blood ran cold. “You what?!”
Bonny’s tears spilled over as she tried to explain. “He was curious about me, about my life. He asked about my friends, and I mentioned you. I didn’t think anything of it, Selena. I didn’t know who he was or what he’d done.”
Selena turned away, her hands shaking as she pressed them to her temples. The walls felt like they were closing in, her worst nightmare playing out right in front of her.
“Selena, I’m so sorry,” Bonny sobbed. “I didn’t mean to… I didn’t know. Please, believe me.”
Selena took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. She turned back to Bonny, her expression hard but her voice softer. “You need to stay away from him, Bonny. Promise me. He’s not who you think he is. He’s dangerous, and if he knows anything about me…” She trailed off, shaking her head. “Just promise me you won’t talk to him again.”
Bonny nodded, her face streaked with tears. “I promise,” she whispered. “I’ll stay away from him. I… I’m so sorry, Selena.”
Selena sighed, pulling Bonny into a tight hug. “It’s not your fault,” she murmured. “But we need to be careful now. Isaac Frostblood is not someone to underestimate.”
As they stood there, the weight of the revelation settled heavily between them. Selena’s mind raced with plans and precautions, while Bonny silently vowed to make things right. But in the back of Selena’s mind, a chilling thought lingered: if Isaac knew about her, it was only a matter of time before he acted.
