The Assasin's perspective

741 Words
Elias leaned against the balcony railing of the Stormgale estate, the cool night air brushing through his dark blue hair. Below him, the sprawling lands of his pack stretched out in shadows and moonlight, but his thoughts were far from the peaceful scenery. Alpha Darius’s request replayed in his mind, and for the first time in months, he felt a spark of genuine excitement. Protecting a girl—a potential key to unearthing Isaac Frostblood’s plans—wasn’t a typical job for someone with his particular skill set. But it wasn’t the danger or the challenge that intrigued him. No, it was the girl herself. Selena. Or was it Aneles, as Bonny knew her? The layers of secrecy and questions surrounding her made this more than just an assignment. It was a puzzle, and Elias loved puzzles. He smirked, taking a long sip of the whiskey in his hand. “This is going to be fun,” he muttered to himself. The thought of being in the shadows, watching, unraveling the truth, and perhaps even confronting Isaac directly, sent a thrill through him. But there was an added bonus—an opportunity he couldn’t resist. Elias found Draven in the training yard, practicing combat maneuvers against one of the younger warriors. His movements were sharp, precise, but when Elias entered the space, his brother’s focus wavered. Draven missed a block, and the younger wolf landed a hit on his shoulder. “You’re distracted,” Elias called, a teasing lilt in his voice. “Thinking about a certain someone, perhaps?” Draven’s golden eyes narrowed as he dismissed the warrior with a wave. “What do you want, Elias?” Elias strolled closer, his smirk widening. “I’m just here to share some news. I’ve got a new assignment.” Draven raised an eyebrow, his posture tensing. “And why would I care?” “Oh, you’ll care,” Elias said, circling Draven like a predator sizing up his prey. “Let’s just say it involves someone you’ve been… quite interested in lately.” Draven’s jaw tightened. “If you’re talking about Bonny—” “Bonny?” Elias interrupted, feigning innocence. “Now, why would I be talking about her? Although… she is part of the equation, in a way.” Draven stepped closer, his golden eyes blazing. “Elias, if you so much as breathe near her—” Elias cut him off with a laugh, leaning in slightly. “Why do you care so much about Bonny anyway? Don’t you have your mate to focus on? What was her name again? Meredith?” He paused, feigning thoughtfulness. “No, wait. Melissa, wasn’t it?” Draven’s anger boiled over, and he stormed toward Elias, his golden eyes blazing with fury. His steps were heavy and purposeful, closing the distance between them in seconds. “Relax, brother,” Elias said, holding up his hands in mock surrender. “My job has nothing to do with Bonny. But the fact that it puts me in her vicinity? That’s just a delightful coincidence.” Draven’s fists clenched, and Elias could almost see the steam rising from him. It was too easy, really. “What are you playing at?” Draven growled, his voice low and dangerous. Elias tilted his head, letting his smirk soften into something almost genuine. “Nothing, Draven. Just doing my job. But if it makes you uncomfortable… well, that’s not my problem, is it?” Draven’s glare could have melted steel, but Elias simply chuckled and turned to leave. As he walked away, he called over his shoulder, “Try not to worry too much. I’ll take good care of everyone involved.” Back in his quarters, Elias sat at his desk, pulling out the file Darius had sent over. The details about Selena—her supposed identity, her tragic past, her connection to Isaac Frostblood—were fascinating. But what intrigued him most was the girl herself. The last Nightspire. If her story was true, she carried secrets that could shift the balance of power in their world. If it was false, well… Elias loved uncovering lies almost as much as he loved the truth. He leaned back in his chair, staring at the photo of Selena included in the file. A young woman with sharp green eyes and a haunted expression stared back at him. “Let’s see what you’re hiding,” he murmured, his smirk returning.
