Megha wore a green dress as per Om's suggestion. She let her curly hair remain slightly wet as she was getting late for the office.
As soon as she came downstairs, she saw her mother working in the kitchen. Her mother was a professor at an art college.
But before going to college, she used to prepare breakfast for her and Megha's father. All three used to sit together and have breakfast before leaving the house. This was an unwritten rule of their family.
Megha's father was already having breakfast. Megha reached the dinner table with quick steps.
"Good morning, Papa. Good morning, Mama. Sorry, I got up late." Megha picked up a slice of bread apologizing.
"Eat while sitting." Papa Yogiraj said.
"No, Papa. I am getting late." Megha said in a hurry.
"So what? I will drop you." Dad said as he pointed at the empty chair.
“Papa, I will go by train like every day. And anyway, your office is on the opposite side.” Megha said while eating bread.
“How many times have I told you to use the car or scooter? But you just don’t listen.” Mother scolded me.
“Have you forgotten how to drive a car or a scooter?” Father asked with a teasing tone.
“Not at all. I just want to travel by public transport. It is cheaper and better too. And if I go by car or scooter, I will get stuck in traffic. You both know the reason for my traveling by train, right?” Megha said quickly.
“All this has happened because of Kiran.” Megha’s father said angrily.
“Papa!” Megha looked at her father in surprise.
For the first time, she saw her cheerful father in anger. Megha looked at her mother with questioning eyes who was sitting with her plate on the table.
“We know everything.” Megha’s mother Naina said.
“What do you know?!” Megha asked with a pounding heart.
“Asha called me yesterday and told me about Kiran’s marriage being fixed.” Naina told calmly.
“Oh, yes. I also came to know yesterday. Kiran is finally getting married.” Megha tried to be normal.
“That i***t is getting married and you are happy about this?” Father Yogiraj asked.
“Yes. What is the big deal in that, Papa? My friend is getting married. I'm the happiest person. Oh, Papa… Look at the time. I'm late, we will talk later, bye.” Megha tried to run away from there.
Right now she was not in a position to think about anything. She just wanted to get away from all this.
“At least don’t hide your sorrow from us. We know how much you love him.” Naina said softly.
“I'm fine, Mama. Papa, don't worry about me.” Megha said with a soft smile on her face.
“What are you going to do now? Did you want to live abroad? I'll arrange a flight ticket for you. Stay with Grandma for a few days.” Papa suggested it to her. He just wants to keep his daughter away from sadness.
“No. Papa, I'm not running away from this. I'll face this.” Megha said in a positive tone.
“Ok. Do whatever you want to do. We are always with you. So don't feel lonely.” Naina said in a supportive tone.
“Yes. If you want I'll punch him in the face for you.” Yogiraj said, trying to cheer Megha.
“Papa…” Megha shows fake anger.
“Ok. If you need any help just tell me. I'll arrange everything for you.” Yogiraj said with a gentle smile.
“Thank you, Papa Mama.” Megha smiles happily.
“You are our angel, dear. Your happiness is our happiness.” Naina patted her hand.
“Now I really have to leave. Bye, Papa Mama.” Megha gives kisses on her parents' cheeks, and she walks out of the house.
As she left for the office, she heard a horn.
Megha turned around and looked. Kiran was standing outside her gate with his SUV.
Baby's full blue shirt and white pants look so good on him. His brown, wavy hair flowed in the air. He looked so handsome as usual. Megha stares at his gentle eyes.
Seeing Megha looking at him, Kiran waved his hand. Megha blinked her eyes surprised. She shakes her head to break the attraction.
“Doll! I have been waiting for you for so long. Come, sit in the car.” Kiran said as he went ahead and opened the gate.
Before this, Kiran had never asked Megha to go with him. Ever since Shruti came into his life, Kiran used to wake up early and go to pick Shruti up instead of taking her. A year had passed since that. After that Megha used to travel to the office.
Megha was sad at first. Kiran had abandoned a friendship of many years in a moment.
It was not Megha’s nature to force things, so she convinced herself. Kiran’s happiness was important to her.
But today Kiran had come to Megha's house to pick her up again. Just like he used to come before he met Shruti.
"What are you doing here at this time?" Megha asked.
"Can't you see? I'm here to pick you up. Now let's go; I have to pick up Shruti, too." Kiran said, holding Megha's wrist and taking her towards his car.
Megha stopped midway on hearing Shruti's name. As soon as she stopped, Kiran looked at her in surprise.
“What happened? Why did you stop?” Kiran asked.
"You go ahead first, Shruti must be waiting for you. You will be late because of me." Megha said while freeing her hand.
"I'm the owner of the company. Who will scold me even if I'm late?" Kiran laughed, held Megha's wrist again, and brought her to his car.
Megha was not able to understand how to avoid Kiran.
After what happened yesterday, Megha had decided that she would stay away from Kiran as much as possible. This was her first trick to ease her pain, which was ruined by Kiran's stubborn behavior.
Kiran quickly opened the front door.
"Sit." Kiran said.
"I'll sit at the back." Megha said awkwardly.
"Why? You have always sat in the front, Doll." Kiran said.
"You are wrong. I used to sit in the front. But not anymore. Now that place belongs to Shruti." Megha said calmly.
"I don't believe in all this." Saying this, Kiran picked her up and made them sit in the passenger seat.
"Kiran!" Megha kept looking at Kiran with surprise.
Kiran quickly closed the door and he ran to the driving seat. He put on the seat belt.
“Seatbelt, Doll.” Kiran said to Megha.
“Okay. But will you stop calling me a Doll?” Megha asked while putting on the seat belt.
“Why?” Kiran said while driving the car.
“Because it sounds weird. And anyway, you never call me by that name in the outside world.” Megha said.
“But you like me calling you a doll, right?” Kiran said with his charming smile.
“I liked that when we were kids. But we are grown now. And if you call me Doll in the office then people will get misunderstandings. Now you are getting married. So you should think about Shruti's emotions, too.” Megha tried to be reasonable.
“You are worrying about Shruti instead of me.” Kiran said, teasing Megha.
“I just…” Megha tried to say.
“Shruti knows that you are my best friend. She knows we enjoy teasing each other. And she has no objection to that. You are thinking too much.” Kiran took out a cup of coffee from his bag and gave it to her.
“What is this?” Megha asked.
“Hot coffee. The way you like it.” Kiran said, handing the coffee cup to Megha.
Megha took the coffee. Then Kiran put on the radio. The music started playing in the whole car. The music reminded Megha of the old days.
But Megha turned off the radio. Kiran looked at Megha in surprise.
