Chapter 7 - Daughter of Fire

1138 Words
Daughter of Fire Elizabeth I was soaked with sweat when I woke up. My mother was laying beside me. Her arms wrapped around me. I smiled. I was barely wearing any clothes. The only thing that covers me is duvet. I take a look at my shoulder and expect to receive a pain just by moving. The wound on my shoulder where the arrow had gotten me, is now fully recovered. Not a small piece of the scar was left. As if it wasn’t there at all. I slowly put her arms away from me, and as I clamber out of the bed. My feet meet the cold wooden floor. It made a screeching sound. I padded towards my wardrobe and took whatever I can get my hands on. I pulled a beige silk dress. I washed myself as fast as I can. When I returned to my chambers with my dress on, my mother was already awake and Daemon was sitting on my chair next to the big window. “Well, she turns out just fine. Isn’t she?” Daemon said. I could see the relief on his voice under his cocky tone. I nodded. “I don’t feel any pain at all.” I said, My mother sigh. “The venom came from the Wards.” she said. Her tone of voice was full of worries. On top of my mahogany table was a tray of food, and a cup of hot coffee that fills my nostrils.  “Who are these Wards and why would they sent their assassins to me?” I exclaimed. I walked towards the table, and grabbed the hot pancake with my bare hands. “They are the Lord regent of Galapornea, under the rule of King Jeorne.” Daemon said. Then I turned to look at him. Did they find out about Rhaena? Cause that’s the only reason I see valid why would they go through that so much trouble to murder a lowborn like me. “They were the first House to betray King Rhaul.” Mother said. Her voice weakens. “Lord Rafael’s father, Tristan, was executed by the mad king, Aero III, Rhaul’s father. They were rebelling against the mad king, planting sympathies amongst the noble houses. Though he has every right to do that, considering what the mad king did to his wife, Lady Lausean. After r****g her, he murdered her in cold blood. That’s what ignited the rebellion, despite knowing that they have no advantage against the dragons of the king. King Aero threatened to burn his children until his House meets extinction, Lord Tristan begged and promised him that his heir would be loyal and faithful to House Lapornea. So, the King made the young Rafael swore his loyalty to House Lapornea in perpetuity.” “I still don’t see what it has to do with me.” I mumbled. “They probably know about Rhaena,” Daemon murmurs quietly. My mother turns to look at him, “Who is this Rhaena?” she asked. I shake my head to Daemon. But, he shrugged away. “You won’t believe me if I told you,” Daemon shrugged. “The long lost Princess of Galapornea is still alive,”  My mother’s eyes widened, and she swallowed hard the vile in her throat. Salty droplets flow down her face like soft summer rain, dripping onto the concrete as she sits to regain her breath. She exchanges glances from me to Daemon, “That’s impossible,” she murmurs. “I don’t believe it either, until I saw her shows off her power. She doesn’t even casting. And, Nikolas Disteel is the person who has kept her safe. By the way, where is that warlock?”  “He’s downstairs.” Mother answers. “I’m weak, and I can perform a simple tracking spell. He’s doing it for me.” “What’s wrong mother? Where’s Elliot? I  thought he was to help you track the assassin down?” I said. Blubbering questions at one time. She nodded.  “Your brother and the guards have search for the man. It looks like he’s not just an ordinary assassin.” Mother huff. “I just don’t really understand. I am just a lowborn.” I exclaimed. Throwing my hands in the air. “That’s where you should be starting to get worried, Elizabeth. When the highborns are starting to get unusual attention to you,” Daemon said. He leaned against the chair, “Perhaps, there is someone from my father’s court who told them about your purpose in this kingdom.” “Jeorne has asked me that question in the Balcony. Perhaps this is his way to show me that I shouldn’t get in his way.” The door was pushed open, and Nikolas barge in with my brother, Elliot. “We found him.” he said. **** When we get to the Inquisition room, Daemon gave Elliot a pat on the back. “You’ve really made Trentoi your home,” he remarks. “How did you even found him?” “With the help of the local people. After everyone finds out that their Lady got ambushed, they help the Trentoian guards to look for the assassins. They were 2 of them, and we were only able to get the other one.” Elliot said. Two guards are posted on both sides of the door to the Inquisition room. They are both clothed with the maroon uniform and the sigil of Trentoi are embroidered on their right chests. They fell on their knees once I reached them. “My lady,” they murmured. “Wow. How I wished my father’s own people are loyal to him the way Elizabeth’s people do.” Daemon remarks. “They will. But, the loyalty is not bought but rather it’s earned.” Elliot said, and walked passed him. The captive assassin is bounded on a chair. Both of his hands are wrapped with rope. A thick fabric covers his mouth. I stand in front of him, the assassin’s eyes widened. Elliot talks to with the Inquisitors. They are wearing a maroon cape. The other one with auburn hair came to me, and bowed. “He speaks of the old tongue, and does not understand a single word of common tongue.” he says. The old tongue was used by the Celarions, and the witches and warlocks. But ever since the Celarions have gone extinction, it was no longer used.
