Chapter Five

1784 Words
All I could think about was Jake. I was acting like a lovesick puppy. I know I was only attracted to him and nothing more than that. But why would he be interested in someone like me? I was not that pretty. To think of it, I haven't seen him with any girl on the campus. I was so confused. I couldn't ask him anything directly and that's when I had an idea. "Hey Chad," I spoke after he picked up my call. "Hey Ash, what's up?" "I need you to come over immediately." He understood the tone of my voice. "I'll be there in 10," I heard a click sound and waited for him to arrive. I was pacing around the living room back and forth. I couldn't tell what happened to Emma as she was already suggesting that I jump his bones. Chad must know something about him. He finally arrived and I tried to talk random stuff with him. He understood right away. "Cut the crap and tell me what is it," I grinned sheepishly and told him everything from top to bottom and his jaw was hanging on the floor. "Do you mean Jake as in Jake Miller?" I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion at his question. "Yeah I guess so, I don't know his last name." And that's when it struck me, I don't even know his last name. He took out his phone and showed me a pic of him. "That's him," I shouted in shock and surprise. Wow, he looked so hot in a suit. I shook my head and looked at Chad. "Oh my God, I cannot believe you don't know who it is. He is the son of Kevin Miller. He owns more than 100 restaurants all over the world. He is quite famous, Ash. I cannot believe you didn't know that." He laughed nervously. I was in total shock. I obviously didn't know. Why would I be researching who owns most of the hotels and especially the son of the person who owns it? "I have never seen him with any girl but all the girls on campus throw themselves at him. Even in tabloids, he appears alone and he can rarely be seen in the news since he is still in college." He stated and gave me a small smile. "It is no wonder that he is interested in you, Ash. You are beautiful and smart and you must be lucky," he sounded genuinely happy for me and squeezed my hands. "I don't know Chad, I'm not interested." I lied through my teeth, not meeting his eyes. "The hell you aren't. Is that why you called me to ask about him?" he smirked. Busted. "Okay fine. I might be a teeny tiny bit interested in him but I'm not gonna do anything about it. He is way out of my league." I stated dryly. "You must be crazy to think that, now stop complaining and give him a call. There is no harm in knowing a person right. And he did mention the possibility of 'being friends', " he air-quoted the words friends. "Okay. Maybe later." I tried to brush it off like it was a no big deal and decided to change the subject. "Tell me everything though. I'm gonna head out. I'm having dinner with Tracy," he said in a rush and stood up to leave. "When did she come from Boston?" I sounded surprised and turned my head as he reached for the door. "Face-time dinner with Tracy." He corrected himself immediately and gave a nervous laugh. I laughed and waved him good-bye. It was nice to see him serious about his relationship even if it was long distance. After giving much thought I decided to text Jake, 'Hi.' I pressed send and I kept my phone aside. I didn't get a reply immediately so I decided to carry on with my college work. "Hey Ash, I have some good news as well as bad news," Emma entered the house and sat on the couch, with a huge grin on her face. "I'm moving in with Justin." She grinned and I screamed in joy. "About time girl," I hugged her so tightly and I was genuinely happy for her. "I know it's all too soon and I did promise your mom that I'll take care of you. Are you sure you are gonna be okay being alone? We can post ads for roommates." She was concerned about me as usual. "I'm so happy for you, Em. I'll pay the whole rent it's not a big deal and I can take care of myself so stop worrying," I assured her. "No way, you are paying me only half of it even if we don't find you a roommate," she said firmly and I decided to convince me later. "I'm gonna miss you so much," My eyes glistened with tears and I was about to cry. "Aww, me too. Stop making me cry," she hugged me once again. "But I'm gonna come here most of the time, so no worries. Now tell me what happened after that date with Mr.brown eyes." "Umm..Where do I start?" I chuckled and told her the entire story. "O...M...G! He is totally smitten and he is also famous, how cool is that? I did tell you if he looks at you, he won't be able to take his eyes off you, didn't I?" she said with a 'told you so' face. "What do I do, Emma?" I whined like a puppy. "What does your heart say?" "To talk to him. Get to know him. Kiss him and you get the idea right? My heart is a slutty bitch." She laughed at my response. "Listen to your heart, it's not like I'm telling you to fall in love with him. I know what you have been through babe, Just let yourself loose for once," she rubbed my hands in a comforting manner. "What if he finds it?" I looked up to met her gaze and she noticed the fear in my eyes. "He is not in your life anymore. Just forget about him, he has no control over you anymore," she assured me and I nodded. "Let's go out and eat, Come on." She dragged me out of the couch.  "Alright, I'm coming." I laughed and got up. I forgot my phone and once we came back home, I checked my phone and saw a text from Jake. I ran to my room and jumped on my bed, smiling giddily as I opened the text. 'Couldn't resist my charm for long, could you?' I could imagine him smirking while sending this. I was struggling not knowing what to text back. 'I enjoyed your company too so I thought 'why not text him'. Don't flatter yourself.' I texted back and got a reply immediately. s**t! 'I'm pretty sure you enjoyed my company at the library' 'Maybe, Maybe not' I tried to flirt pathetically and my phone dinged. 'Then it's a yes.' I had a huge grin on my face. 'Why didn't you tell me you were famous?' I pressed send. Who goes around telling they are famous? I regretted it immediately. God, he must think I'm dumb. I groaned in frustration. My phone starting to ring. s**t! I attended the call with shaky hands. "Hey, you." Oh wow, he sounded so f*****g hot. "Hey," I replied shyly. "So I get it you know who I am. When did you find out?" I hope he didn't think I was some kind of a creep who goes around, asking about him. "Uhhhh...Chad, a guy from my class told me today." I replied nervously. "So you have been asking about me around," he said in a playful tone. I remained silent and blushed. "You could have asked me, I am ready to tell you anything about me and the reason I didn't tell you about me being famous or my dad being famous was because I didn't want you to look at me any differently. I liked how shy and cute you were around me." He said casually while I squealed with happiness inside. Holy f**k! he called me cute. "I'm sorry for not asking you." I blushed, knowing he won't be able to see and maintained my cool. "It's okay. I want to get to know you, Ash. You aren't like other girls I've met," I couldn't stop smiling and thought about it for a while before replying "Alright. But let's take it slow, we can be friends first." I suggested and he chuckled, which was like music to my ears. "Your wish is my command, Milady. Meet me outside the library after your class tomorrow," "My classes get over at 2 in the noon and I have work after that," I replied to make sure he was okay with my timings. "I know that. You can take a late shift at the coffee shop right?" he suggested, making my eyes go wide in shock. "How did you know I work at the coffee shop?" I asked out of curiosity. "I have my ways, Ms.Albright." Okay, he knows my last name too. And here I thought he won't even notice me if I ignore him. "Okayyyyy," I dragged my voice, unsure of what to say next, earning another chuckle from him. "I'm gonna sleep, see you tomorrow?" It came out as a question. "Am I that boring? I'm hurt." He faked a hurt tone. I honestly wanted to calm my poor heart before I could die of a heart attack. Okay, that was a bit extreme. "No, I didn't wanna seem boring." I laughed nervously, playing with the ends of my sleeve. "You aren't boring, not to me," he stated in a serious manner and I blushed. "You are blushing aren't you?" How the hell did he know? "No," I lied, suppressing my smile. "Liar!" He exclaimed and I giggled. "You look cute when you blush," His voice sounded husky and I felt waves of pleasure shooting through my body. Is it possible to be turned on by just a voice? "Umm...I don't know..I'm not cute." I was biting my lips, enjoying this feeling. "That's the thing. You don't realize how beautiful you are which makes you even more beautiful." Damn, smooth. "Alright, Casanova. I see that you are an expert in flirting." I rolled my eyes at his response and realized how easy it was to talk to him "A man's got to try but I meant it, Ashley," he said in a serious tone. "Well, thank you I guess," I said, holding back a yawn. "Alright, I'll let you go to sleep now. I'll see you tomorrow?" I was disappointed that we were about to end the conversation. "Of course...Good night," "Good night, Ash." And I heard a click sound. I'll be lying if I say I wasn't looking forward to tomorrow. I was scared of how happy I was feeling. But I wanted to let myself be happy even if it was only for a while before something happens. I fell asleep, thinking about a certain someone with chocolate brown eyes. *****End of Sample Chapters.
