I expect the floor to feel different once Voss is gone. It does, but not the way I thought it would.
For three days after his removal, the Exchange hums with something close to celebration. Brokers who never spoke to me before now nod when I pass their desks. Even the arbitration platform feels lighter, like the whole floor exhaled at once. I let myself enjoy it, briefly, before Talia pulls me aside and reminds me why that feeling never lasts long in this place.
"Enjoy it while it's here," she says, dropping a printout on my desk. "Because it's about to end."
The printout is a press release, dated that morning, from Vantage's corporate office. A new name, unfamiliar to me, filling Voss's vacant board seat.
"Director Calloway," I read aloud. "Who is that?"
