Episode 10: Family Time

I got back to Oregon in record time. I checked in with everyone and made sure everything was okay. I called my parents to fill them in on everything. They were overjoyed to hear about the whole mate thing. They said they had already spoken to Steve and Jason earlier and were an hour away. Now it was just waiting for him to come to the finish line.

I walked into the packhouse. Anna was already cooking me up a feast and I was super grateful for her. She said she got a call from Steve earlier and was getting everything ready for everyone coming. I smiled at her and I let her know I was going to go up and shower. She nodded her head and shooed me out of the kitchen. I tiredly headed up the stairs and was so happy to get into my shower. Before stepping in I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I looked rough, but after a hot shower, everything would be back to some kind of normalcy. It was an hour or so shower. I just sat on the bench and let the water just relax me. I was just clearing my mind and trying to suppress the urges to run.

KNOCK! KNOCK! Click. I heard the bathroom door open and I could hear the footsteps approaching, but stopped in front of the frosted glass of the shower.

“I’ll be out in a few and come down to eat,” I said to whoever was standing there. I figured it had to be one of the guys. I didn’t pay any mind to whoever was there so I stood up, ready to turn off the shower, but instead leaned against the wall letting the water hit me and run down. I inhaled deeply and sighed out a long deep sigh. There was his scent. Oh no! He was here, in the bathroom with me! My body seized up from the relaxed mode it was just in. I just stayed quiet not knowing what to expect, but ready for a fight if I had to. I don’t really know why I was in fight mode knowing it was my mate, but not ever being in this position before raised a call for alarm. Then he spoke and I had no other choice but to soak in his words.

“I’ve been waiting to finally meet you Alpha. I’m Angel and when you’re done I’ll be downstairs waiting to meet you. That is unless you decide to run and give chase again, but I highly doubt you’d leave your pack.” His voice was low and sensual. He gave a sexy chuckle.

I didn’t say anything in response. I just let the sound of his voice envelope me. A rush of wetness came from deep within and it wasn’t from the shower. My body hummed at his very presence. I heard the footsteps as he walked away to give me my privacy. He shut the door and I was left to my shower. I was thankful he put my mind at ease by giving me my privacy. Minutes later I cut the shower, got dressed in my usual attire of jeans, a black long sleeve shirt, and descended the stairs to eat and meet my mate.

I heard Anna laughing, Steve and Jason telling stories from the past, mom and dad confirming and adding their own two cents in and the smell of beef roast from the oven was heavenly. I walked in and was greeted by everyone including my mate and his Beta. We locked eyes and I slowly walked over to the table. Anna had my plate already set for me and a glass of wine-filled. All eyes were on me. I walked over to the table and sat down. I took a bite of my food to calm my hangry down. Jason and Steve exhaled the air they were holding in. Alpha Angel walked over to me and got on one knee to be at eye level with me and introduced himself. Our hands touched as he took it to kiss the back of my hand. Both my Beta and Gamma looked on with what was happening and had admiration in their eyes. As I chewed and swallowed my food I looked at him and time stood still for that moment. I looked at him curiously and he laughed in response. My heart did a flutter and slowly he was pulling the thread to unravel me and he knew it.

Alpha Angel was just that, an angel, but I didn’t know if he was there to save me or bring about my death. I found my wolf not caring either way as she was excited to finally be in his presence. He was captivating and I couldn’t believe he was my mate. He was a 10 and I felt like a 6 when it came to looks. He was also charming, sweet, had a very sexy voice, and was the goddamn Alpha of the most elite pack of the world! We had a werewolf king and Angel was the second most powerful in the wolf shifter freaking world! He was ruthless when he needed to be and was one of the top sexiest men in the world. I didn’t even imagine the Goddess wanted me paired up with someone like him. I mean, don’t get me wrong I bring a lot to the table too and because of Anna I can cook delicious food, but I’ve never felt ‘sexy’ or anything like that. I dressed appropriately to the occasion and what was comfortable. This guy though was looking at me like a unicorn. I immediately started feeling my forehead and pinching my forearm. Angel c****d his head sideways and raised an eyebrow at my actions. I took a drink of my wine and blew out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding in. Well here goes nothing!

I stood up to formally greet him and he stayed on one knee. We were still at eye level. This was sad. I didn’t realize how short I was in comparison to this Alpha. I tried not to let the uneasiness show in our formal first encounter. “Angel, it is a pleasure to finally meet you. I am Victoria. Welcome to my home and pack. I see that you have met my family.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you too Victoria. I have traveled the world to finally find you. I have put in some miles since the conference to officially meet you. Why were you dodging me?” His face was quizzical, but waiting in anticipated amusement.

I was a little affronted by his straightforwardness, but then he was an Alpha too. At least he wasn’t super rude. He awaited my answer.

“I wasn’t dodging you, Alpha Angel. I was finishing up acquisitions and tying up loose ends before coming home.” I shifted my weight and trying to be as confident as possible in my statements to him.

A wicked smile slid across his face. His eyes sized me up. “Then why did you run at the very sight of me? As well as why did you proceed to punch the air out of me, break my nose, stomp my foot and hit me in the groin?”

My parents’ looks were priceless. Dad had the biggest s**t-eating grin on his face and gave me a ‘thumbs up’ when he heard this. Mom gasped and put a hand over her mouth then looked at me with hate fire in her eyes that I could do this to my mate. Steve started to chuckle again and Jason elbowed him in the ribs to stop. Jason’s mate just smiled and shook her head. I cleared my throat and spoke, “I had just acquired another pack by taking out an Alpha during the conference. I didn’t know who you were and you chased me. I defended myself.” My cheeks were getting hot. I wasn’t lying though. Angel drew in a breath and realized I wasn’t lying. Jason and Steve couldn’t stop smiling. This was the first time they had ever seen another Alpha have their Alpha under his thumb.

“I see. Well, I’m looking forward to getting to know you so you don’t have to use the ‘SING’ method on me again,” he kissed my cheek then sat down next to me. Electric shocks hit me when his lips touched me. I had to calm down quickly as my eyes started turning black. I immediately started thinking about the paperwork I had waiting for me and that was my b***r killer. He waved everyone to come and join us. His introduction was odd and this whole display was irksome because I didn’t expect this at all. I thought he was going to be the macho, misogynistic Alpha that you hear about in stories. I thought he was going to pick me up and whisk me away and immediately get to mating. I was so nervous I drank the whole glass of wine at the thought. I knew it was going to happen, but keeping my arousal in check was becoming damn near impossible, then I got embarrassed because my whole freaking family is here.

Everyone looked at me sensing my quickly changing scents. Thank the Goddess for Jason because he immediately switched it up and laughed and pointed his fork in my direction. “You made a liar out of me little sis and since when did you go out clubbing?”

Busted! I knew in his laugh he was pissed off too, but he’d get over it. I smiled sweetly at him which caused him to straighten up and stop laughing because this was the first for him to see me act this way. Steve watched on in amusement and my parents just smiled on like I won first place at a race or something. Damien, Angel’s Beta looked at me with admiration for both his Alpha and me. Anna wiped away tears.

“I’ve gone out for years Jason. When Steve came back he was my bodyguard.” I stated matter-of-factly.

“Yea, I about nearly lost my s**t when I first caught her sneaking out. I originally thought it was to meet a boy, but then I sent my Gamma to spy on her only to find out she just wanted to go out dancing.” Dad shook his head. Angel laughed at this. Jason shot Steve a killer glare and Steve just shrugged his shoulders. We were all just clearing the air tonight apparently. Sheesh!

“So you like to dance?” Angel’s voice got really sexily low and he stared at me with those gorgeous eyes of his. Damn, I wanted to swim into his sexy ocean eyes.

I smiled and answered him back, “Yes I do. I love to dance. Do you? What is your favorite music?”

“I love to dance too.” He winked and I felt my knees go weak. Can your knees go weak when you’re sitting down? “I listen to all kinds of music. My favorite is Classical music.” I could feel the pull and my wolf started making her way to the front. I was about to lose control again when Angel abruptly stood up. “Anna! I can smell the desert and it smells amazing!”

I was so thankful for him doing that. Anna was beaming at the compliment. Steve came up to me and squatted down next to me. “Breathe. Don’t be nervous. Everything is going to be fine.” He winked and turned to everyone. “I’m going for a run everyone. I’ll see you in the morning. Anna, I’ll get my piece when I get back. Have some milk waiting for me yea?”

“Of course!” Anna chimed.

That was the hint Steve was giving everyone to make haste and let us have our time. I laughed. I turned to Anna. “Love, can I get some snacks to take upstairs?”

“I’ll prep your usual honey. Go get some rest. I’ll have it up in about ten minutes.” Anna started pulling meats and cheeses from the fridge.

“I was actually going to go out for a run too. I have been so busy I haven’t been able to shift and my wolf, well she’s getting restless.”

Angel turned to me with admiration in his eyes. “Do you mind if we join you? I’d love to meet your wolf.”

I shrugged not really thinking about it. “Sure.”

I caught Jason stop abruptly to whatever he was doing and stared at me. I didn’t catch on really to what was going on. Everyone went outside except for Anna.

Steve nudged me as he walked past me to get undressed before the shift. “You know what you’re doing sis? Or are you being that naïve?” He mind linked me and so did Jason.

“What are you guys talking about? I need to go for a run. If I don’t I’m going to spiral even more out of control than I already am.” I mind linked them back. I started undressing not realizing or perhaps forgetting my mate and his Beta were there and also being protective over me. Then it dawned on me what they were hinting at. Son of a b***h! He was going to mark me and it’s under a full moon! Both guys gave me a ‘No s**t dumbass!’ look. I slowly turned to Angel and Damien.

As if reading my mind Angel answered my question. “I’ll only follow your lead. I favor my throat and I value my life. If your wolf approves and wants me to mark her then I will and then you, but if you don’t I’ll respect your wishes and stay behind to eat the desert Anna made.” He smiled with the new knowledge of me being torn between our fates of what was to be or Anna’s cooking. Asshole.

It was at that moment I decided to stop being like a giddy girl. He was charming, but time to cut the bullshit. I sighed in exasperation because I was tired of feeling out of control. Time to take accountability for how I feel I guess. I looked at him with somewhat pleading eyes and blushed cheeks. “To be frank, I’m not versed at all in this department. I’m sure you’re well versed in all of this.” I waved my hand over my body and his. He growled at this remark. I put my hand up and continued. “Look, I’ve been too busy to be with anyone. I’m sure you have had plenty of lovers especially with the honeyed words and seductive attitude. Plus, you’re an Alpha. It kinda comes with the position.” I shrugged my shoulders and rubbed the back of my neck nervously and admitted to him, “I’m nervous. I don’t know what I’m doing or what the hell to expect from you. I had envisioned you to be some pig-headed, macho, wolf, Alpha man that was going to just dominate me and take over, but you really haven’t, so my outlook towards you has altered in a good way.” His eyebrows quirked up as well as his hands upon hearing this as if he meant no harm my way at all. “You’re my mate, right? So I guess this is how it has to be, but just be patient if I mess up. And don’t laugh at me or I’ll kick you in the groin again.”

“You…you, don’t want me?” Angel looked at me with hurt in his eyes. “I’m not here to hurt you. You’re right. You are my mate, but I had no intention of being of what you were thinking. I have been with other females in the past. It’s been over six months since I’ve had s*x with anyone. I think… well to be completely honest I think you’re gorgeous and out of my league. I understand though if you… uh… wow.” He looked a little lost and it bothered me.

I walked up to him and kissed him on the lips. My first kiss. It wasn’t all crazy or anything, but sparks of electricity went from my lips to my toes. My wolf took over before I could do anything and before I knew it I whispered in his mouth, “Shut up and let’s go run. Catch me if you can.” I smiled and shifted.
