Episode 6: Where to Start

1265 Words
My Beta and I woke up and everything seemed fuzzy. My jaw was sore and I couldn’t move. I apparently was tied to a chair. I immediately extended my claws and cut myself out of the ropes. Obviously, my mate’s Gamma was making a statement. I was shocked and annoyed, but it was evident he was trying to buy her time. “Here bro, let me help you,” Damien said as he went to cut the ropes that had me confined to the chair. “No need bro. I got it already.” I showed him my hands and the ropes slid down. “What the hell happened? Where did that Gamma go and why can’t I remember anything after his question?” I asked him. I was hoping Damien had something for me before he was hit too. Damien was dumbfounded and rubbing the spot on his neck where the tranquilizer dart had hit him. “Well, Alpha he hit you square and you passed out. He then hit me with a tranquilizer dart. Then I think he drugged you afterward if you feel hazy too. I think he tried to throw us off of his Alpha’s trail on purpose. I think he wanted us to know that they know about us and perhaps just buy her time. Which I don’t understand because eventually, we will find her at home.” I looked at Damien bewildered and infuriated. He was right. A smile crept across my face. She wants me to chase her down then no problem. She can’t hide now that I know who she is and that she is my mate. She is just going to have to accept what the Goddess has given her. My wolf surged within me and came forward. Damien shrank back for the first time ever and looked at me with a look of uncertainty because of the change of my expression. I snarled, “Where do we start?” Well, we started downstairs with the other Alphas and offered our apologies for not making the conference. It took every ounce of my being to keep my composure. We made light talk of what had happened in our absence. A couple of times I needed to excuse myself because my impatience of getting information out of everyone was going to take coercing and not raise up any suspicions. I didn’t need the extra hurdles of the other Alphas or their Betas trying to create distractions or drama. We ended up having dinner with the other pack Alphas and Betas later that night. I felt like time was slipping away. A couple of them asked me what had me so distracted. I just laughed it off and let them know it was nothing. Most of them talked about their Lunas and pups. I felt myself feeling a sense of emptiness more than ever. The mention of the different Lunas seemed to amplify my loneliness and ensuring my pull towards Victoria. I’m pretty sure Damien felt it because then we switched up the conversations. We continued to throw out random questions about the Martinez Pack, how they all felt about their discovery of the Alpha female, and what the meetings were about that had her panties in a twist. We got a lot of laughs out of that comment even though it angered my wolf more than anything, but we needed to find out all that we could so we could track her down. Everyone in the group was shocked at the discovery. Some of them remembered her as a kid. All of them held an appreciation for her and some had admiration for her and her generosity. It caught me off guard. One Alpha - Jake spoke up from the Clear Lake Pack. “I know we were joking about what had her panties in a twist, but on a serious note my pack and I are in her debt.” Jake had everyone’s attention at this mention of his debt to her. Our stares encouraged him to go on with his story. He looked into his drink and continued on, “Her financial support saved my pack after we had gone to war against the Vampires. Come to think of it, she actually saved my Luna during the battle and stayed in our pack hospital for a week and a half to recover the injuries she sustained from the Vampires. Before we had a chance to thank her properly she had slipped out of our territory. For a long time, I thought she was a rogue, but then my Gamma said that she was a part of the Green Forest Pack and that she was just passing through.” The Alpha shook his head and then took a drink of his high ball. A couple of more Alphas shared similar stories. My Beta and I exchanged glances. My wolf was intrigued and impressed. Then Carlos the Alpha of the Gold Pack spoke directly to me in front of the group. “I’m curious Alpha. Why the interest? I’m starting to think you have a fancy for her even though you didn’t meet her.” He narrowed his eyes at me as he spoke almost as if he were her big brother. I stared back and poised to rise to the occasion if he made a move. “I mean no disrespect, but she is unmated, beautiful, smart, and dangerous. She is also a philanthropist. She saved my life and again earlier by killing Alpha Martinez. She’s not to be toyed with and even though a lot of us now know she is in fact the Alpha of her pack that makes my pack and I even more protective over her and her pack.” All of the Alphas and Betas around the table tapped their glasses on the table in agreement. I took a deep breath and slowly released it as I continued to stare at Alpha Carlos. “She’s my mate.” “How can you be so sure?” Carlos asked with an eyebrow raised. “You’re one of the highest and most ruthless among us Angel. Your very nickname amongst your enemies is the ‘Angel of Death’. What makes you so sure that this she-wolf is your mate?” “I want to know what makes you think that you have the audacity to question the Goddess and her decision. She is my mate, Carlos. I scented her. My wolf is going crazy. Frankly, I didn’t want to share this information because I didn’t need this to start, but it’s apparently obvious.” “Well if she is your mate then, how come you are here and not with her. She’s here. Lay claim on her then.” I felt the challenge coming from his voice. “She left a while ago and some of you already knew this.” I began to smile again. This was not a complete waste of time I thought. Everyone exchanged glances then l spoke up again. “I need to know where to start.” Smiles were exchanged and then all eyes were back on me. Alpha Jake cleared his throat and stood up with his glass raised. “Good luck on your hunt Alpha.” “Good luck!” everyone else followed in unison.
