A fast forward to the future..

[ Jacob's pov ] 6 years have already passed and there has been no sign of my parents yet. Today I celebrated my 24th birthday, well not exactly celebrated, more like I was ambushed by Adam and my brothers. I was in my office, at the company, going through some paperwork, when those 3 barged in with demands to celebrate my birthday. Eventually, we compromised on having a drink in my office and blowing out some candles, which was still too much for me, but they were not giving up. My brothers and Adam are the only ones who I have not been able to push away after all this time. Adam had officially become my beta 5 years ago and has done an amazing job. An even better one than I expected, to be honest, and my expectations were pretty damn high since I had big shoes to fill. He is a couple of months younger than me, and when his 18th birthday came he wasn't lucky in finding his mate either. 6 years later, and neither have I. Not that any of us had the time to look. I like to think of it as a karmic thing. We have always stuck together no matter what, so sticking together, even in misery, without our mates, seems like the obvious turn of events. My brothers, on the other hand, are both now in high school. Charles is finishing this year, while Emmet has one more year to go. They have grown up to be amazing leaders and brothers. Despite all the difficulties they have faced, they always excel. 5 years ago, still not being able to find my parents and fearing for my brothers' safety, I decided to send them to a boarding school in the human world. The same one, mine and Adam's childhood friend Blake, was graduating that year. It was an excellent school and although I have not spoken to Blake since she was 7, not due to lack of trying, of course, I knew that even under those circumstances, she would keep an eye on my brothers. I have tried reaching out to her many times since she left, but she never replied to me or Adam. Her parents told me that she wants nothing to do with this world anymore or anyone in it, every time they tried to console us when she ignored our communication attempts. On weekdays, I visited my brothers almost every day during lunch, since the school was close enough to the HQ of Silvermoon enterprises. Being CEO and the Alpha king was demanding, but my brothers are the only family I have left for now, so I had to make it work. After a year of searching for my parents, I dismissed the trackers and warriors from the other packs because they had not made any progress in finding my parents. There was absolutely no trail and it was unfair of me to ask them to keep searching for my family, while keeping them away from theirs. However, the warriors and trackers of our pack, that were part of the search and rescue team, are still on the look out. I never gave up, nor I will, until I find them. I know they are alive, I just know it, in my gut. My brothers left my office just a few minutes ago, after we had finished with the cake, leaving me and my beta alone. Adam poured another glass of whiskey on the rocks for both of us and we sat in silence for a while, enjoying each other's company. It has always been easy with Adam. At times we can talk non-stop, like two gossip girls, while at others, we can enjoy each other's company in silence. Having finished another glass of whiskey, it was my turn to pour our drinks and I decided to unburden myself a little. Whiskey always made it easier and today I had almost finished a bottle. As I sat back in the armchair next to my best friend and handed him his drink, I started to think about the most blissful period of my life. When I had both my best friends next to me, my parents and my grandfather. "- I swear, one day I will invent a time machine or at least find a time-witch, even though everyone says they are extinct, so they could send me back to when we were 6. Blake was still with us and we were all so happy and carefree. I thought we would all stay together no matter what" I sighed "I still don't understand how she could just vanish like that and why she never returned any of our phone calls. Even when Charles and Emmet attended the boarding school she went to, the silent treatment continued. I thought there would be some sort of communication again, but nothing. All I managed to find out is that she helped my brothers out all the time, until she graduated. Blake used to cook for them and leave the food at their doorstep, so they still could have a homemade meal on the days I was not visiting. She taught them everything she knew about the human world, so no one would suspect they were werewolves. She mostly wrote notes to them, rarely in person though. I know my brothers had, and maybe still have, some sort of communication with her, but every time I ask them, they act clueless. She showed she still cares about her kind, so why the hell, doesn't she talk to us? I wanted to visit her dorm room when I was there, but my brothers never let me go through with it. They always found excuses why I shouldn't. By the time, I finally mastered the courage to approach her and demand some answers about why she was avoiding us like a plague, she was gone. Apparently, she had graduated with honors and moved to her new apartment a week earlier. Always an overachiever, at least some things didn't change." "- I don't know, man" Adam replied, clearly also frustrated "It is not like she didn't have a phone. We bought her one on her 9th birthday, using all of our savings and lunch money, so we could keep in touch. We gave it to her parents and they said she received it, but even before that, we wrote her letters, to which she never replied. I don't know what happened, but even after almost 20 years, I still miss her too.. I know it is crazy, but I realize that this may be because I have had a crush on her since then. If I ever see Blake again, I believe I will still feel the same for her." Adam took a sip of his drink and closed his eyes. Hurt and sadness were written all over his face. "- I hoped that she will come back after her graduation. Damnit, I even bought her a graduation present. It is still in my closet. I couldn't believe it when her parents told us that she wouldn't be returning. That she doesn't want anything to do with our pack anymore. They have told us this before, but I always thought it was just some teenage rebellion or an excuse her parents used to tell us, but I never believed it. Especially, like you said, after she helped out your brothers that much, I thought she would come back to us, to me.. I still buy her a present on every birthday. My closet is overflowing with them after so many years." "- I don't understand it either. On her last day here, she promised she would keep in touch. She cried and she said we are her family. I cannot stop thinking about it either. Playing it over and over again. Thinking about where we got it wrong. I know she had a rough childhood with her parents and everything, but she knows we would protect her from all that. We have the power now. Anyway, I just hope she is fine wherever she is" I said, unable to stay on this topic any longer. "- Me too" Adam said, and this was the end of our conversation. We finished our drinks in silence and after that, he congratulated me once again and excused himself. He went back to our world, as he had some pack business to attend to, while I stayed back in my office in the human world, to finish all the paperwork I had left in the middle. In the last 6 years, the company has been doing great and, with all the innovations and green energy fuel for our airline department, the company has doubled its profits. Once I find my parents, I know they will be very proud of me, when they see all the progress I made, I thought to myself, diving into work mode once again.
