We make our way into the club, the shadows of the colorful lights playing across us as we climb the steel-black stairs leading upstairs.
"Want to hit the bar?" Aimee suggests, and I give her a nod in agreement.
As we walk to the bar, Aimee points out the people she knows while I take in the atmosphere. The club is packed with people, the music loud and the lights flashing. The scent of sweat and alcohol hangs in the air. Despite the noise, Aimee and I manage to talk to each other without raising our voices.
We reach the bar, ordering drinks and taking a moment to people watch. Aimee scans the crowd, and I can sense her searching for someone. After a few minutes, she spots someone she knows and waves them over. They join us, and sit down next to me.
“My name’s Miles, yours?” Aimee’s friend asks, causing me to turn my head in his direction and when I do, my breath hitches.
My eyes trail over his features, tattoo’s spiraling around his arms from his finger tips, disappearing under his shirt and ending at his neck.
Blue eyes with dark hair that tower’s over his forehead. “Cassity, call me cass.” I reply, downing a shot to distract me.
“Cass,” he tests, my name rolling off his tongue effortlessly causing me to almost choke on my drink.
As we talk, Miles brings up our shared love of hockey. We talk about our favorite teams and players, with Miles seeming to know almost everything about the game. He's passionate about hockey, and I find myself becoming equally invested in the conversation.
As we continue to talk, I notice that Miles has a certain energy about him that's captivating. He's not afraid to speak his mind, and his sense of humor is incredibly witty. I find myself enjoying his company more and more with each passing minute.
Despite the noise and crowds of the club, Miles' presence is like a calming force that makes me feel at ease. My heart races a little as I realize I'm starting to develop feelings for him. As we say our goodbyes, I can't help but feel a sense of sadness that the night has come to an end. But at the same time, I'm also filled with excitement for what the future holds.
I sink into the leather sits of Aimee’s car, almost falling asleep when I get shaken awake.
“Wake up!” She yells dramatically, causing me to jump up. “What?!” I yell, startled.
“I’m at your house.” She say’s, pointing in the direction of the apartment building.
I sigh, picking up my bag from the floor. “Nice seeing you Aimee, except we didn’t get pissed tonight.” I chuckle, “I couldn’t even drink because I was driving.” She says with a frown.
“We’ll get a taxi next time?” I suggest, she nods, making a pouting face as she hugs me.
“I’ll see you again, Cass.” She says with a smile as I step out of the car, shutting the door behind me as I give her a wave goodbye.
She speeds off, leaving me in the car park as I walk into the apartment building, the warmth hitting me instantly which I immediately feel comfort in.
“Long night?” The receptionist asks, a knowing look on her face. I nod, smiling at her which she returns before I step into the elevator pressing the 10th floor button before the doors close and the elevator goes up to my floor.
The lift comes to a stop and I step out, my heel’s clicking on the marble tiles beneath me and I frown, sick of hearing the noise all night.
I open up my apartment, stepping inside and slipping out of my heels immediately. Tossing everything elsewhere as I rush to my room, changing into comfy silk clothing.
And sleep envelops me.
