Elena realized right away—Authority was definitely not a gift!
Getting it would come at a huge cost.
Relying on it to save her?
That was like making a deal with the devil.
Because she knew—Authority wanted her dead.
She took a sharp breath. But hey, at least things were starting to make sense.
Two big problems still stood in her way:
1. Alucard's witchcraft. If that wasn't sorted out, she'd end up as a frog during the ceremony.
2. The missing guest. Without all 100 people there, Authority would show up—and that could lead to the disaster her mom had warned about.
Elena marched downstairs, with the Fear Lord trailing behind like an annoying puppy.
She stopped suddenly.
"Don't you think," she said coolly, "it's kinda weird for a grown man to be hovering so close to an innocent girl? We're basically strangers."
"I'd love to get some space." He smirked back at her. "But if I step over one meter, bam—the pain comes rushing back and I'm just mist again."
"Your pain is not my problem."
"Princess!" He pretended to be offended. "I answered your questions! The least you could do is put up with me being here."
"After you tried to kill me?"
"Giggle! That was before I found out how charming you are." His smile turned sly.
"Had I known you'd ease my pain, I wouldn't have hurt you."
Elena: (╬ ̄* ̄)
Guess that's supposed to be a compliment?
"No more trying to off me? Not worried I'll outdo you with Authority?"
"Meh." He shrugged. "Being endlessly tortured is worse than being second best."
Classic Chaotic Evil—no principles at all.
"Enough with the groveling," he sneered. "I'm not some whiny servant. The great Fear Lord has never begged for anything. Refuse me, and I'll drag you away—turn you into a charm to wear forever!"
His eyes sparkled with mischief. "The only reason I haven't? My generosity for your... services."
Elena rolled her eyes. "You're just bluffing."
"A lot of folks have dared test me." His voice dropped low. "Their screams still echo in my ears."
"Chaotic beings act on impulse," she shot back. "If k********g me was an option, you would've done it already. But you're too scared."
She stepped closer. "Authority will come for me today—and you're scared of what I'll do to you after that."
Fear Lord: (; ̄д ̄)
"You need me," she pressed on. "Too afraid to kill me and too hooked to let go—pathetic."
"Tch! Even with Authority backing you up, there's no way you'd take me down!" he blustered. "I'm Primordial—immortal!"
"Prove it! Kidnap me right now." She grinned wickedly showing her teeth. "Let's see what Authority does to someone like you."
He growled—but stayed put.
Finally, he sighed deeply.
"Alright then—a compromise." He held out his hand. "Three favors from you in exchange for sticking around by your side."
Elena paused.
This Primordial could be a strong ally—but making deals with devils usually goes south fast.
But until she faced Authority, he wouldn't dare cross her line—and since there was no way she could get rid of him anyway...
"Deal."
"Wise princess!"
"Shut up."
A crimson contract appeared in his palm:
"The Fear Lord is gonna give Elena three wishes. In return, she lets him hang around her within a meter. Break this deal, and you're toast—lost to the Void forever!"
Elena felt some kind of magic wrapping around her soul.
"Let's shake on it." He smirked.
Grinding her teeth, she took his hand—
Flash!
The deal was sealed. A heavy feeling settled in her chest.
"All set?"
"Yep!" He purred back.
Elena rubbed her temples. "Your hovering is really messing with my ceremony."
"I've got an easy fix for that." Black mist surrounded him. "Now only you can see me. Even your dad would just walk right by me."
"Not too shabby."
"Wow, praise from you? I must be doing something right with my first favor."
Elena: Σ(゚д゚!!)
"You cheat—"
"Honor?" He chuckled. "Chaos loves betrayal! It's pretty wild that I'm keeping any order at all!"
...
"YOU (censored) SON OF A (censored) *(censored)-ING (censored)—!!!"
Elena lunged at him, fists flying everywhere.
So much for being graceful and composed.
The Fear Lord just laughed as she unleashed a rant that would make sailors turn red.
