Carter looked at the dark reflection in her coffee. Her body was in that hospital, but her mind was traveling through the past. Memories gushing through her self-consciousness. No thought passed through her without Carter analyzing and feeling it in full. The overwhelming emotion started to shatter and c***k her brain. In desperation, she took a sip of coffee. Letting it wash away the crushing memories in her.
“Carter McAllen,” her head shot up,”your brother is settled, follow me.”
Carter walked behind the nurse. The nurse began to start small talk, Carter only allowed herself to focus on the sharp clicks of the shoes on the marble floors. The blurred corridors seemed endless and to be closing in on her. Breathing was pushed out of her consciousness, dovoting it to place her in the past. Beating Carter with all the emotions that she had felt about all the memories she had pushed down so long ago.
A small bell noise, once again, cleaved her racing mind back to reality. Just enough to sip her coffee. Regaining a space from those shadows in her. Spreading through the whole of Carter’s body she took time to observe the hallway that the nurse was leading Carter.
The nurse turned, we were at the room’s door where Tyson was staying. Carter looked at the nurse and thanked him. He gave a warm smile to Carter, then grabbed her cup. Filling it with more coffee.
Entering the room and sitting down, Carter’s eyes fell upon Tyson’s wrist. The blood faintly soaking through the bandaging, following the neck brace that cradled her little brother’s neck. No matter what she did, Carter could only see the rope that strangled him. Not even the false sense of hope she forced upon herself, could comfort her.
The past taking a whip to her back. Thrashing it with all the emotions of loss. Opening old scars that were imprinted on her mind, heart, and soul.
“What did you do…”
