The first rays of sunlight filtered through the tall pine trees, painting golden streaks across the forest floor. Hailey slowly opened her eyes, every muscle in her body aching from the battle the night before. For a moment, she wondered if it had all been a dream.
Then she saw the torn clothes, the dried blood on her hands, and Kaiden sitting quietly beside the fire.
“It wasn’t a dream,” she whispered.
Kaiden looked up and gave her a small nod.
“No. Your life changed last night.”
Hailey sat up carefully. Her wolf, Luna, was silent but present in the back of her mind. It was comforting to know she was no longer alone.
“I still don’t understand,” Hailey said. “Why did my wolf appear now? Why have they been hunting me all these years?”
Kaiden sighed before handing her a cup of warm herbal tea.
“Because your eighteenth birthday awakened the bloodline that had been sleeping inside you.”
Hailey frowned.
“My mother… she knew, didn’t she?”
Kaiden stared into the fire.
“She knew everything.”
A lump formed in Hailey’s throat.
“Then why didn’t she tell me?”
“Because she was trying to keep you alive.”
Silence settled between them.
Kaiden finally stood.
“We don’t have much time. Once the rogues failed, others will come.”
“Others?”
“The Lycan King’s warriors.”
Hailey’s heart skipped.
“So he really knows about me?”
Kaiden nodded.
“He knows the Blood Moon Princess is alive. He just doesn’t know where.”
They packed quickly and left the cabin before sunrise.
As they walked deeper into the mountains, Hailey noticed Kaiden checking their surroundings constantly.
“You think we’re being followed?”
“I know we are.”
Hours later, they reached a hidden valley surrounded by steep cliffs. At its center stood an ancient stone fortress almost completely covered with vines.
Hailey stared in amazement.
“What is this place?”
“A sanctuary,” Kaiden replied. “Very few know it exists.”
Inside, several wolves immediately bowed their heads as Kaiden entered.
Hailey looked at him in surprise.
“They know you.”
“They should.”
One of the older men stepped forward.
“Welcome home, Alpha.”
Hailey froze.
“You… you’re an Alpha?”
Kaiden smiled faintly.
“I was hoping to tell you later.”
Before Hailey could respond, the old man turned toward her. His eyes widened with shock.
“It really is her…”
He slowly knelt.
“The Blood Moon Princess has returned.”
One by one, everyone in the room followed.
Hailey stood speechless.
For the first time in her life, people weren’t looking at her with fear or hatred.
They were looking at her with hope.
Yet deep inside, Luna whispered a warning.
He’s coming.
Far away, in a palace built of black stone, the Lycan King stood on a balcony overlooking his kingdom.
A soldier dropped to one knee before him.
“My King… we’ve confirmed it.”
The King’s golden eyes gleamed.
“The Blood Moon Princess survived.”
A slow smile crossed his face.
“Prepare my guards.”
He tightened his grip on the stone railing until it cracked.
“I’ve waited eighteen years.”
His voice echoed through the hall.
“And now… the hunt begins.”
