Chapter 2

594 Words
Pulling into my driveway I take a moment to marvel at my house. Two full stories, three bedroom, two bath, and creamy white pillars on each side of the porch, not to mention the hot tub and pool in the back yard and the balcony attached to the master bedroom. Walking through the house I drop my purse, keys and jacket on the kitchen table. Slipping out of my clothes I grab a towel from inside the patio door closet and head out to the hot tub. I set the tub for all the jets on and medium heat then settle in and relax. I must have dozed off because next thing I know I'm back in that damned cornfield. Growling in frustration I start running again, soon I'm standing in that gray box again. Shaking my head as the two men once again appear, I start walking towards the man in white. That's when it happened. I realized, in my dream, that I am dreaming and stopped dead in my tracks. The man in white looks puzzled, then his eyes widen as he seems to realize I'M in control now. Staring at the man in white a grin breaks across my face. When I spoke, my voice rang clear and soft though the area. "I'm in control now. You won't force me to your side again. This is MY dream, not your playground. For years now I've wanted to turn from you and have not been able to. Now I get to make my own choice and you will not stop me." Turning my back to him I gaze up at the man in black who seems equally as surprised by my control over my dream. Walking a bit close to him I speak again. "What is your name?" I ask softly. A look of shock crosses his face. "Hades, my lady." "Hades? As in God of the underworld?" I ask in astonishment. "The very same." He replies with a smile. "Oh my." I breathe. I look him up and down closely, I catch a whiff of sandalwood and jasmine. I frown and lean closer, yes the smell is definitely coming from him. Rocking back on my heels. I glance over my shoulder at the man in white who looks strained, as though he's trying to keep his temper under control. I take another step towards Hades and a voice rings out through the clearing. "Stop this nonsense at once and come to me where you belong." I spin around "How dare you speak to me like that. At least Hades has manners, unlike you. You know what, I've made my choice." Turning I walk right up to Hades. Gazing into his eyes I ask softly, "Will you hurt me?" He looks shocked by my question. "I would never do such a thing." I nod, "Then it's settled." I calmly take Hades outstretched hand and step into his arms. I wake up with a jolt still reclining in the hot tub. Glancing at my watch I realize I've only been asleep for almost 30 minutes. Turning off the tub I step out and wrap myself in the fluffy towel and head back inside. I scoop up my clothes, shoes, purse and keys on my way upstairs ignoring my jacket. Once in my room I throw my keys and purse on my dresser and my clothes in the hamper before slipping into my night shorts and tank top. Crawling into bed, my last thought was the fact that I don't have to work tomorrow.
