Three weeks into the probation period, everything happened at once.
I was in the estate office reviewing harbor repair proposals when Morgan burst in, her usual composure shattered.
"We have a problem. Actually, we have five problems, but one is urgent."
I set down the documents. "Start with urgent."
"The school funding you promised? The coastal pack's financial accounts were frozen this morning. Someone filed an injunction claiming the fund reallocation violates Morgana's existing contracts with local suppliers."
My stomach dropped. "Can they do that?"
"They just did. The Council has to review the injunction, which takes minimum two weeks. Meanwhile, school starts next Monday and there's no money for teachers' salaries or supplies."
