The knock came at 6:12 a.m.
Not the quiet alert of building staff.
Not the discreet notification from private security.
This one was firm. Official.
Ethan was already awake. He had barely slept since the resignation demand. Sophia stirred beside him as the intercom buzzed sharply.
“Mr. Callaway,” the head of security said, voice controlled but tight, “federal officers are at Daniel Hastings’ residence. They have a warrant.”
Sophia sat up immediately. “For what?”
“Obstruction of a federal securities investigation.”
