CHAPTER TWO
I couldn't sleep that night. I kept looking at the acceptance letter. I just couldn't believe I had really gotten admitted into Westfield Academy, let alone a scholarship.
This scholarship would at least lessen the financial burden on mom, and I would still be able to further my studies.
I looked at the message again and smiled brightly. I placed the phone to my chest and slowly drifted off to sleep.
The next day I stood in front of the mirror deciding what I would wear for my first day at school. I didn't want to embarrass myself there.
Finally, I decided on a very simple top and trousers. Nothing too extraordinary. I looked at myself in the mirror again and smiled as I turned round to check out my outfit.
I winked at myself, satisfied with my outfit.
“Morning, Mom”.
I said, smiling brightly as I rushed towards her to hug her.
“Ooohhh, morning.. baby”. “Hope u slept well?”.
“Yes mom, I did.”
“ Although, I couldn't stop thinking about my first day of school.”
I said, sounding so excited.
I collected the food from mom and took it to the dining table where we all sat down to eat.
“Sis Sophia, so you're finally a high school student”. Addy said, while sticking his tongue out in a rather funny way.”
“Yes I am,” I replied to him, in the same manner.
“Sophia, can you pick up your brother from school today? I don't feel safe…letting him come home alone.” Mom said, her voice sounding shaky.
“No problem mom, I don't mind, I'll pick him up.” I replied to her.
I knew mom was still frightened by what happened yesterday and I didn't want anything to cause her any more frustration as it already was.
I checked my phone and got up seeing it was time to go to school already.
“Mom, I'll be going now, I don't want to be late, Wish me luck.”
“Good luck Sophia. Also, don't make bad friends, okay.” “Remember the family you came from.”
Mom said. As she hugged me tightly.
I bade them farewell and headed out of the house.
I reached the school and stood at the entrance of the gate as I stared at the massive building in amazement. I was surprised by how big the school is.
I walked slowly past the gate as I saw a lot of luxurious cars drive in and out of the school.
Some students were being dropped by their drivers, while some drove themselves in.
The chatters from the students were so loud as most of them were seated mostly in groups discussing how their holidays probably went.
Just as I was still quietly observing the school environment, I felt a hard object slam into me causing me to fall.
“Ouch”...
I winced in pain, and I looked up to see what had hit me but instead I saw a female student standing in front of me.
“I am so sorry….. I apologize.”
She said while extending her hands towards me to help me up.
I got up and tried dusting myself up.
“It's okay, no worries your apology has been accepted.” I told her, as I smiled at her while still trying to tidy up my clothes.
“You're new here right?”She asked me while observing my clothes.
“Yes I am, is it that obvious?” I said.
“Well yeah, it's pretty obvious. You are not putting on the school uniform, so I guessed you were new.”
“Well, yeah I am, and I'm already looking like this on my first day.” I said while pointing at my clothes.
She looked at me apologetically again.
“I'm so… sorry again for that.” She said
“Well, where are you headed now, I could take you round the school for a quick tour, take that as me being sorry”. She said, sounding sincere.
“Uhm… I think I need to find the principal’s office first. Can you take me there?” I asked her hoping she wouldn't refuse.
“Yeah definitely, I'll lead the way.”
“Oh and also, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Leah Morgan. You can call me Li for short.”
She said while extending her hand for a hand shake.
“I'm Sophia Reynolds, Soph for short.” I stretched my hands outward and reciprocated her hand shake and we both laughed.
We got to the principal's office and she welcomed me nicely.
“Miss Reynolds, welcome to Westfield Academy. I can see you have already made a new friend.”
The principal said, as she looked over at Leah.
“Thank you principal, and yes I just made one now.” I replied to her, as I smiled back at her.
“Your class schedule has already been fixed, and you will be given your uniform later in the day. Is that okay with you?” The principal asked.
“Yes ma'am that's okay.”I replied to her.
I took the schedule from her and headed out of her office with Leah while thanking her.
“So… Sophia, where do you wanna go next?” Leah asked just as we stepped out of the principal’s office.
“Well…nowhere in particular, you could take me on that tour you talked about though.”
I said as I winked at her.
“Okay then… off we go.” She replied excitedly.
She showed me different interesting spots in the school. Finally, we decided to go to the cafeteria.
We got in and I was unsure what to order. Just as I was finally about to make a choice, sudden screams erupted near the cafeteria entrance causing me to jump in fear.
I looked at Leah as though demanding an explanation but she only looked at me and laughed seeing how frightened I was just a few seconds ago.
“Don't worry Soph, don't be scared. You will get used to it soon.” She said, sounding so relaxed.
“So… What's going on there?” I asked her anxiously as I turned to look at the entrance again.
“They're the three most handsome guys in school. Anytime they come in, the girls always scream.” Leah explained.
I was shocked as to how good-looking they were to warrant this kind of excitement from them.
I turned to face the chef and collect my food after she had called my name several times.
Just as I was about to find a seat, my eyes came in contact with one of the guys that came in.
I stared at him for a few seconds, before I finally turned my face away not wanting to get into any trouble. He was indeed good looking though.
I bent my head down and continued eating my food in silence.
