CHAPTER FOUR
Over time, Leah and I had become much closer, and thanks to her, I had settled comfortably into life at Westfield Academy.
I did my best to ensure my grades wouldn't drop or get into any form of trouble that could jeopardize my scholarship. I wasn't as fortunate as the other kids in school.
Mr Richard also played a huge role in helping me adjust to the school and my studies.
The bell rang and everyone brought out their books in preparation for the next subject on the timetable.
“Good morning class,” Mrs Roseline greeted the moment she entered the class.
“Good morning Ma'am,” the whole class chorused in reply.
“So class, I am going to call out your names to sign the attendance.”
“Sophia Reynolds,” she called out my name.
“Here ma'am,” I replied.
And so she continued with the other names until she called out the name Ethan Carter.
There was dead silence, and no response.
She called out his name again but still no response.
“Ma'am, Ethan isn't in class yet.” I told her to avoid her taking too much of the class period calling his name.
Just as I finished talking, Ethan came in with his circle of friends.
“And who said I was absent.” He asked with his usual domineering and husky voice as he turned towards my direction.
He faced the teacher again, performed a slight bow and headed towards his seat. As he approached his seat, he gave me a deadly stare, which caused my body to shiver.
For the few weeks I had been in this class, I had never had a close confrontation with him, nor have I ever talked to him.
Immediately I turned towards the teacher to continue the class.
The class went on peacefully for two hours, after which the bell rang, for the next lesson, P.E.
it wasn't just our class, other classes would join in the class, and that also includes Leah's class.
I changed into my jersey and headed straight to the court, where P.E classes were usually held and there, Leah saw me immediately and ran towards me.
“Hey girl, how was class.” Leah asked me as she was excited to see me.
“It was fine, Leah.” I answered her, sounding more restrained than her.
Over time, I had come to know that Leah was more of the active girl unlike me, I was more of the quiet type.
The P.E teacher came in and everyone stood at attention waiting for further instructions.
We were told to partner up and perform basic warm-ups, before we go out to the field to run.
Leah, naturally would be my partner, There was no separating us.
As we continued with our push-ups , Leah winked at me to look at my side.
“Pss…pss… hey Soph, turn…. She said, in a low tune.
I turned towards the direction and saw Ethan and his squad. They were playing basketball and Natalie and her crew were busy cheerleading for them.
Ethan was all sweaty, with his abs and triceps out as he ran round the court. He was undoubtedly attractive. It wasn't difficult to see why other girls liked him.
Just then, Ethan's team won the game and the screams from his fans intensified. Natalie as usual came over to hug him which attracted the attention of other female students there.
He took off his jersey, and poured a bottle of water down his hair letting the water drip down to his abs. A scene I continued to watch unable to look away from.
Just then his eyes caught mine and I could swear he smirked at me.
Leah shouted my name which made me turn and focus my attention back on her.
“I told you to look, not to drool.” Leah said in a rather mocking way. I felt so embarrassed.
“I wasn't drooling, I was just uhmmm…. enjoying the game.” I replied to her, stammering while avoiding eye contact.
“Let's just finish with the warm-ups,” I told her immediately to prevent her from saying something else.
The P.E teacher came back and we all headed to the field for a five minute jog.
The bell rang indicating it was time for break and I headed to the cafeteria with Leah and we where we ate our meal while chatting over minor things.
The last lecture for the day started and ended peacefully.
I hurriedly went to Addy's school to pick him up because I had a shift at the restaurant.
Aria has been helping me to cover up my shifts for some days now, because of the series of tests I had.
I dropped Addy at our neighbors place, changed out of my school uniform and headed straight to work.
Luckily for me, I wasn't late this time.
I greeted Aria and immediately changed into my uniform to assist her. The restaurant was so busy with customers coming in and out.
Just when everything had quieted down, Aria and I went into the back room to rest.
“That was one hell of a busy day.” Aria said as she gulped her water down.
We both laughed and chatted over small matters and matters at school. It was night and we both packed up and closed the restaurant as we headed back home.
At the dining table, I ate my meal hurriedly in order to go to my room and sleep. I was already exhausted from today's work.
The next day at school, everyone chatted so happily. Some were in groups while others sat quietly in corners.
Suddenly, Leah came into my class with her face lit up with excitement.
“Hey girl.”
“How was your night? I hope you slept well.”
Leah asked in a tone she usually uses when she needs something.
“Yes dear Leah, I'm okay as you can see.” I replied to her, looking at her keenly, to know the next thing she would say.
“So Soph…. Leah started as she kept drawing herself towards me. There's this party that's coming up, and I want you to attend it with me.”
Leah immediately merged her two palms together and started with her doe eyes in a pleading manner before I even responded to her request.
“Hell no, I replied blatantly.”
“You know I ate gatherings, especially a party?”
“No Leah, I'm really sorry but I can't go. Besides, I don't think mom will allow it.” I said as I continued with my writing.
“But Sophia, ever since I've known you we've never gone out together. Please let's go out this once, okay.”
I looked at her once again, and saw how genuinely she wanted me to go to this party. I reluctantly agreed.
“Yes! Leah shouted excitedly.”
She sprung up immediately and hugged me tight.
“ But… I paused as I pointed a finger at her. I will have to ask my mom first. If she agrees, then I'll go with you.”
“Okay Soph, agreed.”
Just when Leah was about to head back, I immediately stopped her.
“Hey Leah, When's the party and where?” I asked her.
“Oh it's In the next 2 days, by 8:pm.” Leah replied to me. “Don't be late,” she said before winking at me.
The bell rang and Leah went back to her class. lectures commenced for the day.
Deep down, I wasn't sure if I really wanted to attend this party. Still, I had given Leah my word. According to Leah it was being hosted by Ethan.
I honestly wasn't interested in him,his friends or the drama that always seemed to surround them. Unfortunately fate had other plans.
