Rosetta's Journey

Chapter 6: Nate

   Nate was looking out his bedroom window wondering back to his conversation he had with Rosetta earlier today.  It is now evening and he had not seen her at all.  He is starting to wonder if she is honestly going to meet up with him at all.  Suddenly he hears a knock on his door.  Nate thinks it is Marcus, so he walks over to the door, opens it quickly, and turns around to walk back in the room. 

    "Hey, I figured you would still be moping around your room so I brought you a present." Marcus says to him as he walks in the room. 

    Nate still facing away from Marcus starts to shake his head at his best friend's antics then asks, "What present? Marcus you know I am not in the mood tonight." 

    "I know, but what type of best friend would I be if I didn't come and help you lift your spirits?" 

    "Marcus"

    "Okay calm down. I brought Rosetta." Marcus says. Nate turns around shocked at Marcus' words. Before he can even speak. Marcus speaks again. "This is the part where you say thank you, Marcus."he says laughing before he steps to the side and lets Rosetta in. 

    Nate and Rosetta stare at each other for a few moments. Nate tries to figure out how Marcus was able to get her to show up. He looks into her eyes and notices them change a bit almost as if she is lost in thought.  Nate hears someone clearing his throat and looks over to see it is Marcus. He realizes that he needs to say something. 

    "Thanks" he says, a bit quieter than he expects. He then turns to look at Rosetta, "Come on. let's get started."  

    Marcus and Rosetta nod in response. Rosetta walks over to wear the couch in his room and sits down. Nate follows her but sits in one of the chairs across from her. Marcus comes over to sit in the other chair after he made sure the door was closed to Nate's bedroom.  As soon as Marcus sits down he tells them what he found out. Nate listens to Marcus tell how Fredrick was found poisoned in his room. The guards who were working the night before said that they did not see anyone suspicious walking around the castle. Marcus continues to explain how he spoke to the guards the morning of the incident, and they were no help either.  This makes Nate wonder if Fredrick knew who his killer was.  He mentions his thoughts to the others who both consider it. Rosetta tells them how she has heard that Fredrick had a tendency to flirt around. Nate can tell by Rosetta's face that she is surprised that Fredrick acted that way.  It makes Nate wonder how close Fredrick and Rosetta were. He is taken back by how he begins to feel jealous of Fredrick and Rosetta's relationship. 

    When they finish compiling everything they have found out they realize they do not really know all that much.  They decide to come up with a plan.  Rosetta is going to have Ariana introduce her to some people around the palace and see if she can find anything else out.  Nate and Marcus are going to go around to some of Fredrick's other friends. Once they were all settled they all decided it is time for them to call it a night. Marcus is gone before Nate even realizes it. Leaving Nate and Rosetta alone.  Nate begins to feel nervous being left with Rosetta in the same room as him.  He notices Rosetta starting to head toward the door so he decides to speak.

    "Umm...Rosetta may I walk you to your room?" he asks her. Nate isn't sure why he decided to ask that but he finds himself hoping she accepts.  Rosetta turns and smiles at him. Nate smiles back at her then says, "or not you know that is alright too." before he can continue talking Rosetta cuts in. 

    "Nate, you do realize that my room is across the hall from yours right? But since you asked so nicely yes you can." Rosetta tells him. 

    "I do realize." Nate responds laughing. 

    Rosetta looks at him before turning and walking back toward the door then says,"Let's go"  

    Nate chuckles to himself and follows her out the door.  When he reaches Rosetta he thanks her for agreeing to meet up with them.  When they reach her room.  Nate knows he wants to talk to her more. What he doesn't know though is if she would want to talk to him more.  He isn't sure she will open up to him.  Nate feels that tonight is a good start. Nate decides to tell her goodnight. She shocks him when a gentle smile appears on her face and she tells him goodnight back before closing the door to her room. Nate finds himself walking back to his room with a smile on his face. 

    The next morning, Nate sleeps in before he sets off to talk to people who were close with Fredrick.  First, Nate meets up with some of Fredrick's friends who live outside the palace but close enough for him to get to them easily.  A few hours go by before Nate comes across Benjamin and Peter two of Fredrick's closest friends.  Peter was apprehensive about telling Nate anything.  He seemed to be hiding something but Nate could not figure out what it was.  Peter did say that it was a spur of the moment decision for Fredrick to come that time but he didn't explain why it was.  Nate was starting to get frustrated at Peter.  He had to hold himself back from yelling at the guy.  Benjamin thankfully stepped in distracting Nate. Benjamin talked about how much time they spent together and told Nate a few guys that were hanging around Fredrick that he did not see. He mentioned a few people that Nate recognized were part of the guard. Nate would have to ask Marcus if any of those guys were on duty the night of the murder.  Nate decided to ask Benjamin if Fredrick was dating anyone. 

    "Benjamin, I heard that Fredrick was with many girls during the time he was visiting.  He never mentioned to me about having a girlfriend though. Did he mention having one to you by any chance? If not it would really help me if you could tell me any girls he might have told you about." 

    "Well, he did tell us once about one girl he was dating." 

    "Do you know her name?:

    "Amelia"
