Chapter 4: Rosetta

1193 Words
Rosetta walks down the corridor toward her room lost in thought.  She said she was shocked when Nate walked into the room earlier would be an understatement.  It took her completely by surprise. She never thought she would see Nate again after she left the forest earlier that day let alone see him in the palace.  As a prince no less.  Now what is she to do? She came to find out who murdered one of her closest friends, not get distracted by an extremely handsome man.  She felt guilty for even thinking like this when she knew Fredrick's killer was still out there.  When she arrived at her room she decided she would go to sleep then tomorrow she would focus on finding his killer. She laid down on her bed and tried to push any thoughts of Nate out of her mind.       The sound of birds outside her window woke her.  She peeks outside to see the sun has hardly risen yet. Rosetta sat up then began to take in her room.  Her room was bigger than her normal room was.  There was a huge wardrobe in front of her bed with a bench situated to the left of it..  The door to her room is on the left side of her bed..  On the same wall as her door was small desk with a chair.   To the right of her was a small window that was next to another door that led to her balcony.  The walls were all white, but on the ceiling there were wooden beams going across the entire length of the room.  Her bed was her favorite part of the entire room.  It was a canopy bed made with beautiful dark wood.  Each pillar had carvings of leafs spanning from the bottom all the way to the top.  It was lovely.  Rosetta found herself running her fingers up and down the bed amazed at the entire design.  She was surprised by how enchanted she was with the piece of furniture.       After a little while she walked over to her wardrobe to see what clothes were put inside.  She was not at all surprised to see it filled with dresses.  Rosetta shrugged then grabbed a simple green dress and put it on.  Then she continued to get ready for the day.  She sighed knowing it was going to be a long day and she was going to need to ask Heather or Nate for some men's clothing so she can continue to train.  There was no way she was going to miss more than a day of training no matter what anyone said.  If she isn't able to get anymore clothes by tomorrow then she will just have to have the clothes she brought with her washed and wear them.   Once she was done deciding what to do she opened the door and walked out and started down the corridor.  While she is walking she stares down at the ground lost in thought.  So, she is surprised when she feels herself smack into a wall.  Though when she feels hands around her upper arms she instantly realizes it's not a wall she walked into.  Rosetta groans hoping it is anyone, but Nate.  She looks up though to find out that fate is certainly not on her side.      "Sorry, I was not paying attention to where I was going." Rosetta says as he releases her arms.     "It is okay. I was not paying attention myself either." Rosetta just nods to him in response and then begins to step around him. Instead it seems Nate has no intention of letting her pass just yet. "Wait, do not go just yet.  I was looking for you actually.  It seems we have some things we need to discuss pertaining to Fredrick's death." he says to her.      "I guess today isn't going to go my way after all" she mutters to herself.      "Huh? What did you say?" Nate asks.  Rosetta shakes her head before looking him in the eyes to respond.      "I was wondering why you thought to come find me before the sun has even fully risen?"      "I figured you might be up already because when we came across you in the woods yesterday it was early in the morning. "     "Fine, I guess that makes sense.  I do not need your help though so if you will excuse me I need to go see Heather."      "Yes, you do need my help and why do you need to see her when I'm supposed to be your first point of contact if there is anything you need."      "No, I do not and I need to see her about getting some men's clothing."      "Why do you need men's clothing?" Nate asked, making Rosetta slightly upset.  She was starting to see just how annoying and determined this man really was.      "That doesn't concern you." she said with some attitude.     "Yes, it does, but i'm deciding to let that slide this once.  I will get the clothes you need sent to your room." Nate responded to her in a calm manner making Rosetta slightly more annoyed.     "Thank you, now I will be on my way."  she said as she tried to step around passed him again, but he again blocked her passed.  She couldn't understand why Nate won't just leave her alone.  "This conversation is over now. Do you mind getting out of my way now? I have better things to do than have you holding me up all day."      "I do mind actually. i'm not going to get out of your way until you decide to have a talk with me.  Like it or not I'm one of the only people able to help you with this seeing as not many people know about your mission and this is my kingdom.  You’re going to need my help if you want to figure out who murdered Fredrick." he says in a serious tone.     Rosetta stares at him for a moment.  She has yet to hear him ever use a tone with her that was anything other calm or lighthearted.  Rosetta  knows that he means business and is not going to let her leave until she agrees.  It is against her nature though to let someone win.  She did not become a skilled fighter by giving up easily.  That being said, what she says next surprises her.      "Fine Nate let's talk, but does it really need to be right this particular moment?" she is surprised when she sees Nate look shocked momentarily before he quickly masks it with his usual calm self again.      "Thank you, Rosetta." he says as he steps out of her way then continues to say,"We can talk later on if you want, but if you try to avoid me again know that I will come find you again."      Rosetta does not know what else to say to him.  She did not honestly think he was going to let her go this easily.  Rosetta ended up nodding in response then began to continue back down the corridor.  She knew he was right.  She needed his help.  She was going to have to have serious talk with him to find out what he knew about Fredrick and about the circumstances surrounding his death.
