When Ya Gotta Go...

"So," Carson said, wheeling his bike alongside him but not getting onto it, "Any idea of where to go now?" Sunny shrugged and looked up at the sky. The greyish clouds were still present, but the rain had lightened slightly, and the wind wasn't as backbreaking to traverse. "I suppose I'll just hang out around the library," she muttered. Carson looked approving. "Yeah, it's a nice place," he nodded, then hopped onto the bike. "Well, I gotta go, but nice talking to you!" "Same," Sunny replied, and waved as he began to pedal away. Within a few seconds, he had disappeared from sight and she was standing in the rain by herself. Quietly, she took a deep breath and began walking. I'm better now, she reminded herself, I've eaten, at least. And yet the way ahead still felt intimidating. Sunny shivered. Every now and then, another student would walk out from behind her, or a bus would rush by her with a sickeningly loud whoosh. News articles about school shootings or kidnappings would echo in her head. How did I ever make my way across this damned campus before? Sunny thought. And yet, the voice spoke, You're choosing to move out of your own volition, aren't you? Sunny gritted her teeth. Just imagine Jem's on the other side, waiting for you, the voice continued. How did you make your way to the sexy roleplay costumes shop? Well, Sunny bit her lip, I'm not sure. I think I was in a more manic phase. Right now I just feel too exhausted to climb my way back up. The library is just a few steps away, Sunny, the voice said, but obviously that meant nothing. Regardless, her feet kept walking, her lungs kept on breathing, and the doors were growing nearer. See? You got here. Good job, the voice said encouragingly. Be proud of yourself. You made your way here, out of sheer determination, and nobody tried to kill. And how did you do it? "I NEED TO PEE AND CHANGE MY TAMPON I AM IN EXCRUCIATING PAIN RIGHT NOW." Oh... Holding her legs together in the most discreet potty dance she could muster, Sunny whimpered and pushed open the library doors. Warm heating. Soft couches. No more rain. She sighed happily. Just then, something - or someone - grabbed onto her shoulder.
