Chapter 2

The rest of the journey to the hotel is smooth. Maeve tells me all about the friends she has made in college but assures me that none of them compare to me. I laugh. I don’t need her reassurance. I want her to make new friends. I know that nothing will ever come between me and her. We have been through a lot in the past and our friendship is as strong as anything in the world. Our excitement grows the closer we get to the hotel. We are only minutes away now and I can practically smell the fresh air coming from the beach. “Do you think the others will already be there?” she asks. I laugh. “Of course, they will be. We are more than half an hour late at this point,” I tell her. She laughs. Luckily, we left early so they will not have to wait too long for our arrival. We have booked two rooms which are joined together by a door in the middle. One room has three bed while the other has two, allowing each of us to get our own bed. We have agreed that Maeve and I should stay in the double room while Holly, Hannah and Emma stay in the other room. That way we can commute together and check in with our hotel room mates. When we get to the hotel I am amazed by its size and beauty. We find it hard to find the correct entrance because the premises is massive. The walls are painted white and white marble pillars complement the colorful flowers surrounding the entire building. There are tall palm trees in the gardens and a posh red carpet leading to the golden doors. No wonder this place was so expensive. It took me months to save up for a room for just two nights. I pull up to a man wearing a black suit and a name tag with the hotel crest embroiled in it. “Excuse me, could you please tell me which way is the main parking?” I ask him. He gives me a big welcoming smile. “If you want, I can take the vehicle for you and park it while you check in,” he informs me. I look at Maeve who looks back at me and shrugs. “Yeah, why not,” she answers, and we hop out of the car. Shortly after a young man, also dressed in a black suit comes towards the car and takes out luggage out. He places it on a trolley for us and pushes it behind us. We walk on the red carpet and in through the golden doors. It almost feels like I am walking through the gates of heaven. “I’m sure every hot man who is staying at this hotel is loaded,” whispers Maeve making me chuckle. All that is on her mind is men. We walk up to the reception desks which are also marble just like the pillars outside. I look around to admire the interior designing. There are white couches beside the tall windows to allow guests to relax while they wait to be checked in. The massive windows let in as much natural light as possible, making the room bright and comfortable. “How can I help you today ladies,” says a woman behind the desk. She too is wearing a suit and has her brown hair neatly tucked into a bun on the top of her head. I realized all the women here have buns and red lipstick on. The presentation of all staff members is immaculate just like the hotel itself. “Hi, I have a room booked for Taylor Smith,” I tell her with a huge smile on my face. I am so excited to see the room. The reception is so beautiful, I can only imagine how beautiful the rooms are. “Can I ask for your ID please?” she answers, and I hand it to her. She checks if all the details are correct before handing me two cards. “These will be your room key cards,” she explains. “Your room number is 518, that is on the fifth floor,” she adds. I thank her. “Eric here will help you bring your luggage to your room, he will also show you where your room is located,” she tells me. I thank her again and we follow Eric to our room. We take the elevator and get off on the fifth floor as the woman explained. When we reach room number 518, I use my card to unlock it. When we enter the room, I am amazed. The room is almost all white except for the rose-colored details such as pillowcases, flowers and artwork on the walls. The room has a huge window overlooking the sea. We have the perfect view of the beach. There is a small white marble table pushed up against the wall with a big bottle of champagne and two glasses. A small letter reads ‘Welcome to our hotel, please enjoy these complementary treats’. “If you require any room service or help from the front desk, please dial 1 on your phone. We operate 24/7 so you do not need to worry about availability,” says Eric. He leaves the bags in the room and we thank him before he leaves. When he closes the door behind himself, Maeve and I squeal. “This place is incredible!” I say and jump up and down. “Everyone here is so posh and fancy,” says Maeve making me chuckle. “I can’t believe we are finally here,” I admit. I look out through the window and see the beautiful beach. “I can’t wait to lie on the beach and enjoy the sounds of the waves,” I tell her. She claps her hands in joy. I hear a knock on the door. It is not coming from the main door; it is coming from the door that separates our room from the other girl’s room. I give Maeve an excited look. It must be them. I unlock the door, exposing three very excited looking girls. “Oh my god you’re here!” shouts Holly. The girls lift their arms up in the air and tackle us to the ground in a big group hug. We laugh as we land on the soft white carpet. After a few giggles we get up off the floor and exchange hugs. “How long have you been waiting?” I ask them. “Not too long. But long enough to open the champagne bottle and start drinking,” says Emma. I laugh. That is typical Emma behavior. Emma is a tall brunette who enjoy partying and drinking. She does know her limits thankfully but that does not mean that she always stays within it. She dropped out of college last year to work full time as a bartender. She is a year older than us, meaning she started college before us. But it simply wasn’t for her. “I can’t believe we are finally back together!” shouts Hannah. I nod excitedly. “It has been way too long since we have last seen each other,” I admit. Hannah and Holly are identical twins. They share the same blonde hair and blue eyes and are both the exact same height. It was hard to tell them apart at first but once I got to know them and their different personalities, I no longer struggle with that. “So, what do we have planned first?” asks Maeve. “I think we need to go to the beach first!” I suggest. “It looks so pretty, and it is such a beautiful day outside,” I add. The girls all agree. “A gossip day at the beach, sounds good to me,” says Emma making us all laugh. It is true. We have so much to talk about! The girls go back to their room to get changed while Maeve and I unpack our clothes. We put on our bikinis and put on our summer dresses over them so we can walk through the town without getting strange looks. I pack a smaller bag with a towel, a pair of sunglasses and a fresh set of clothes in case the ones I am wearing get wet or dirty. It doesn’t take us too long to be ready to leave. As much as I love the hotel room, I am excited to leave. “Let’s go pretty ladies!” Maeve calls to the other room. Within seconds, all the girls flood our room with excitement plastered on their faces. “I can’t wait to swim in the cool water,” shouts Hannah. “I can’t wait to drink a beer on the beach!” calls Emma. I laugh. “I can’t wait to check out handsome topless men!” yells Maeve. We all burst out in laughter and leave the room together. I make sure to take an access card with me, so we do not get locked out of the room. The walk to the beach does not take long. We booked this hotel because we were very impressed with how close it is to not only the beach but also to the famous restaurants and nightclubs in the area. We have plans to visit a few of the hot spots over the next few days. When we arrive at the beach, we find the perfect spot to set up our blankets. While we set up, Holly and Emma go to a local store to buy some snacks and some drinks. Can’t have a gossip session without some snacks! I look around to take in the incredible view. The sky is clear, not a single cloud in the sky. The sand is pale and soft. The perfect sand for a day on the beach. The waves are small, bringing various seashells onto the beach from the mysterious sea. I always loved the seaside. My parents used to bring my brother and I to the beach on a regular basis before my youngest sister was born. Unfortunately, my mother faced many complications when having my little sister, so we were unable to travel for a long time. After that, my parents lost interest in the beach and did not take us to it as often as I would have liked. I watch the girls come back with a few bags of food in their hands. They have huge smiles on their faces. “You will never believe what happened!” shouts Emma when she gets close enough to us. “What?” I asked and laugh. She can be such a little drama queen sometimes. She loves to exaggerate her stories and make a big deal out of them. “We saw the hottest men in the world,” she exclaims and throws the bags down on the blanket. I chuckle. “That’s good news for Maeve,” I joke and look over at her. She seems very excited about the news. “Where are they?” she asks innocently. We all burst out laughing, making her blush a little. “They were entering the store when we were leaving. There was about five of them,” explains Holly. How convenient, the perfect amount of hot men for all of us. Maybe two for Maeve because I am not interested. I do not want to start dating yet. I want to focus on myself. We open the snacks and eat them happily while hanging out in the sun. I feel so relaxed and happy to be surrounded by my best friends. The beach is incredible, and I am thrilled to have saved up enough money to come here and celebrate our achievements together. The girls tell me all about their colleges and their new friends. I feel a little uncomfortable expressing how I have not made too many friends, but the girls assure me that I will meet new friends sooner than later. Let’s hope so. It does get a little lonely sometimes. I have gone from having four friends and a boyfriend surrounding me to just one house mate. I need to step out of my comfort zone and talk to more people. Maybe this little vacation is the perfect time to start. I should challenge myself and try speaking to new people. We do plan on going to some parties tonight so maybe I will make some more friends.
