Chapter 16: later that same day. Helena smiled to herself as she sipped her champagne , her eyes scanning the city below. She was sitting in a high-rise office building, surrounded by sleek, modern furniture and designer decor. But she wasn't here to admire the view; she was here to put her plan into action. She picked up her phone and dialed a number, her voice low and husky as she spoke to a shady journalist. "I want you to publish an article about Jin's family, painting them as gold-diggers. Make it juicy, make it scandalous. I want people to believe they're capable of murder." The journalist on the other end of the line chuckled, his voice like gravel. "I love it, Helena. I'll make sure it's front-page news." Helena smiled, her eyes glining with satisfaction. "Good. I'll make sure you're well-compensated." She hung up the phone and leaned back in her chair, a sense of triumph washing over her. This was it; this was the start of the end for Jin's family. * * * * Meanwhile, Leila was sitting in her living room, staring blankly at the flowers Jin had sent her. It was already very much late and the girls were already asleep after their whole fun night. But she could not sleep, the butterflies in her belly would not let me plus she was feeling restless, her mind racing with thoughts of Jin and the strange things happening around her. Suddenly, the doorbell rang, and she got up to answer it. It was the mailman, holding a mysterious package with no sender's address. Leila's heart skipped a beat as she took the package, her mind racing with possibilities. What could it be? Was this another package from Jin? But if it was then Jin would definitely add his name as the sender but he didn't, or maybe he forgot this time? She opened it, and a photo fell out. It was a picture of her and Jin, but someone had drawn a red X across Jin's face. Now she was more than sure that this was not from Jin, her heart started beating fast with fear. Leila's blood ran cold as she stared at the photo, her mind racing with fear. What did this mean? Who was sending her this? All she could do was hope this was a prank, who delivers mails in the middle of night? She tried to shake off the feeling of unease, telling herself it was just some sick joke. But as she looked around her living room, she couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching her. * * * * Ryan and Jimmy (as Jin) were sitting in a dimly lit room, surrounded by papers and evidence against Helena. They were going through it all, their faces set in determined expressions. The rate of Jimmy's intelligence shocked Ryan, it was hard to believe that Jimmy was just a street guy. He didn't feel like that at all, he felt so smart. Too smart. Ryan hated admitting it but Jimmy was smarter than Jin, while Jin was more cold and bossy. "This is it," Jimmy said, his voice firm. "This is what we need to take her down." Ryan nodded, his eyes scanning the papers. "Yeah, we've got her financial records, her connections with shady characters... this is gonna be a piece of cake." Jimmy grinned, his eyes glining with triumph. "Let's meet with the key witness, see if they can corroborate our story." Ryan nodded, and they made plans to meet with the witness. * * * * Tom and Jerry were sitting in their living room, their faces twisted with anger. They were talking in hushed tones, their voices laced with venom. "I'm so sick of her, man," Tom said, his eyes flashing with anger. "She's always comparing us to Jin, saying he's better than us, like who does that, what gives her the right when she has trained us in whatever way we have grown up to be ." Jerry nodded, his face set in a scull. "Yeah, I know. It's like, even if Jin's dead, she's still praising him, it's obvious Jin's mother raised him well, but her, she keeps blinking her motherhood failure on us. It's like, who does that ?" Tom snorted, his voice laced with disgust. "She claims she hates him, but she's always singing his praises. It's like, get over it, Mom." Just then, Helena walked into the room, her eyes narrowed. "What are you two talking about?" Tom and Jerry exchanged a guilty look, but Helena's eyes were like a hawk's. She knew they were conspiring against her. "Nothing, Mom," Tom said, his voice sullen. Helena's eyes flashed with anger, but she said nothing. She knew they were plotting against her, but she was one step ahead. * * * * Leila was sitting in her living room, staring blankly at the photo of her and Jin. Suddenly, the doorbell rang again , and she got up to answer it. It was a stranger, a young woman with a nervous look on her face. "Leila, I need to talk to you," she said, her voice low. Leila's ears perked up, and she invited the woman in. "What is it? What's going on?" The woman looked around nervously before speaking. " Jin's family are in danger, Helena plans to frame his family for his death, my conscience could not let me be quiet about this considering how Jin saved my son's life in the past by paying for his surgery when I had no money at all ." Leila's heart skipped a beat as she stared at the woman, her mind racing with possibilities. "What do you mean?" Leila asked, her voice firm. The woman just smiled, her eyes glining with secrets. " This is all I can say, any further information and she might know it's me who sold her out, use this piece of information widely, save Jin's family ." Leila watched her go, her mind racing with thoughts of what to do next. She grabbed her phone and dialed Jin's number. "Hey, we need to talk," she said, her voice low. Jimmy answered immediately, and Leila could hear the concern in his voice. "What's wrong?" "Meet me at Ryan's place," Leila said, her voice firm. "I got a message from someone who says they know the truth about your fate." Jimmy's voice was laced with curiosity. "I'll be there in 20 minutes." Leila hung up, her mind racing with thoughts of what to do next. This was it; this was the start of the truth. JJ'S PEN
