Chapter 9: The Shocking Truth
Leila's eyes were fixed on Jimmy's lips, her breathing shallow. The air was thick with tension, and Jimmy could feel his heart pounding in his chest. He knew he had to say something, but his mind was a complete blank. He knew for sure he had messed things up. How come was it that he nailed being Jin with everyone else but with her. Maybe because she was indeed an Angel, she was too beautiful to be real, looking like an edited and photoshoped image pulled out directly from the screen, she was simply Lethal, Impossible to resist, too beautiful to take the eyes off her. In other words, she was too beautiful for her own good.
Leila's porcelain skin seemed to glow in the soft light of the study, her blonde hair cascading down her back like a waterfall of gold. Her piercing blue eyes were narrowed, her full lips pursed in a pout. Jimmy's gaze lingered on her face, taking in the way her eyelashes fluttered with every breath, the way her chest rose and fell with a mixture of anger and confusion.
"What is wrong with you, Jin?" Leila demanded, her voice low and husky, like a gentle caress pulling him out of his moment of admiration for such a piece of art. He had been attracted to other women before but it was nothing like this, it was always just something s****l but this was something different, he was drawn to her and he knew she would be his downfall, his downfall in a black dress. Her eyes searched his, her gaze piercing. "Why did you just hug me like that? You're never like this."
Jimmy's throat felt dry, and he gulped down a saliva, his Adam's apple bobbing with the motion. He took a step back, trying to process what had just happened. He was supposed to be Jin, the cold and calculating heir to the Richard's empire, not some lovesick fool.
Leila's eyes didn't leave his face, her expression searching. "Jin, are you okay? You've been acting so strange lately. You're sounding different, looking different... what's going on?"
Jimmy forced a laugh, trying to cover up his mistake. The sound came out awkward, and he knew he wasn't fooling anyone. "I'm fine, Leila. Just a bit stressed, that's all."
Leila's gaze lingered on his face, her eyes narrowing further. "Stressed? You? That's not like you, Jin. You're always so... composed. But now... I don't know, you seem... different."
Jimmy's heart was racing, and he could feel a bead of sweat trickling down his spine. He knew he had to get out of this situation, fast. "I'm fine, Leila. Really. Just leave it alone, okay?"
Leila's expression didn't change, but her voice took on a softer tone. "Okay, Jin. But promise me you'll take care of yourself. You don't seem like yourself."
Jimmy nodded, grateful for the reprieve. "I promise, Leila. I'll be fine."
Leila's eyes dropped to the floor, and she took a deep breath. "I should go. I didn't mean to barge in like this."
Jimmy's instincts kicked in, and he reached out to stop her. "No, Leila, wait. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be so... distant."
Leila's eyes met his, and for a moment, Jimmy thought he saw a glimmer of understanding there. But then her expression hardened, and she pulled her arm free.
"I'll talk to you later, Jin," she said, her voice cold.
Leila turned and stormed out of the room, leaving Jimmy feeling like he'd just dodged a bullet. He let out a slow breath, trying to calm his racing heart.
As he stood there, Ryan walked back into the room, a look of concern on his face. "What happened? Why is Leila storming off like that? Did you play Jin badly or something?"
Jimmy scratched his head, feeling a bit bewildered. "Mm, yeah... kind of. I don't know, man. I just messed up, I think."
Ryan's expression turned serious. "Okay, let's focus. We've got bigger things to deal with. We've had everyone seeing you back home, and now it's time to go see Jin."
Jimmy's eyes narrowed, his curiosity piqued. "What do you mean? See Jin?"
Ryan nodded, his eyes somber. "Yeah. He's in a private part of the hospital, a hidden section on the ground floor. The doctor who owes Jin a favor has agreed to keep him there, in a coma, a secret. We need to go see him, Jin."
Jimmy's eyes widened as he processed the information. "A coma? What's going on, Ryan?"
Ryan's expression was grim. "It's a long story, Jimmy. But we need to go. Now."
Jimmy nodded, and the two of them left the study, heading for the hospital. As they arrived at the private section, Jimmy could feel a sense of unease creeping over him.
* * * *
Ryan pushed open the door, and Jimmy's eyes landed on the figure lying in the bed. It was Jin, his face pale and still. Jimmy's eyes widened as he took in the sight. Jin looked... lifeless. His eyes were closed, his chest barely rising and falling with each breath.
Ryan's voice was barely above a whisper. "Jin... my friend..."
Ryan's face contorted with emotion, and he took a step forward, his eyes welling up with tears. "Jin, oh Jin... what have you done, man?"
Jimmy's eyes were fixed on Jin's face, his mind reeling. How could someone look this much like him? He took a step closer, his gaze roaming over Jin's features. He noticed the scar above Jin's eyebrows, a small, jagged line that looked eerily familiar.
Jimmy's eyes widened as he realized that he had the same scar, in the same spot. He felt a shiver run down his spine. Who was this guy, and what was going on?
Ryan's voice was a gentle whisper. "Jimmy, I... I don't know if he'll ever wake up."
Jimmy's eyes met Ryan's, and he saw the fear and uncertainty there. He felt a pang of something, a connection he couldn't quite explain.
"We'll get through this, Ryan," Jimmy said, his voice soft. "We'll figure it out."
Ryan nodded, his eyes still fixed on Jin's face. "Yeah... yeah, we'll figure it out."
