Chapter 39His house sat sandwiched between two boarded-up vacant properties. He knew kids peeled away the boards and partied inside the houses. As long as they didn't burn down either of the structures, he didn't care. The way he saw it, if they were inside an empty house doing drugs, drinking, and having s*x, then they weren't out shooting people, or knocking over corner street grocery stores. He climbed out of the car, bent over some, and ambled across the front lawn, up the porch stairs and, after shimmying the keys in the deadbolt, through his front door.
