Chapter 1: Azalea

Ira and I were chilling at her mansion. Her father, f**k, was fine as hell, all of our friends thought so. Which pissed off and gave Ira the ick. Today, though was just Ira and me. Her father heard from the grapevine that I was trying to find a job in business, and well, he just so happened to be looking for a personal secretary for his real estate company. Ira was pacing and looking at her watch. “He’s probably working late again.” Her royal blue hair was pulled back into high pigtails with pastel green bows. Her hair was bouncing up and down as she groaned. “Hey, I’m sure he just got busy at the office, maybe a big deal with a property deal? I heard on the news online he was trying to buy that old strip mall to revamp it and rent it out to businesses.” “Yeah… he has been pretty busy with that deal. I just hate it when he’s late. You know it’s like he’s always in business mode and never father mode.” “Yeah, I know and that must suck. I’m sorry, Ira.” I stand up from the black leather couch in the living room. I embrace her in a tight hug. “Just know he does this for you, so he can give you a good life.” “I know and thanks. You’re literally the best friend ever, Azalea.” I smiled and pulled away from the hug. I shook my head and pulled on one of her pigtails. “Nah, you’re the best friend ever. Now, no arguing with me, ‘kay?” She laughed and nodded. “Wanna watch something on TV while we wait for my father to get back home?” “Yeah! Whatcha wanna watch?” “Hmm, there’s a new reality show about finding love?” “Eh, I don’t know, those are all full of drama and fake. What about true crime shows?” “Nah, too creepy and—” She shivered. “Too morbid.” I laugh. “It’s crazy how were so different, but we get along so well.” “Yeah, it is a little weird, huh?” She giggled. “Okay, what about this? We watch a romance movie? At least it’s not some made up drama making it seem like it’s reality?” “Yeah, okay, that works.” She smiled and flipped through the romance movies and chose one at random, but how hot the male main character was. “Really? You picked this for the eye candy, didn’t you?” She smirked and nodded. “Duh! Why wouldn’t I? At least if the movie sucks, there’s eye candy!” I shook my head and smacked her with a throw pillow. “God, you’re insufferable!” “I know, but you love me!” She teased me and shoulder bumped me. I rolled my eyes. “Yeah, sure, okay.” I teased her back. “Oh shut it! You love me, and you know it!” “I guess, but only because I have no other choice.” She threw a throw pillow at me. “b***h!” I laughed. “Takes one to know one.” She huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. “Yeah, well were both bitches.” She laughed and returned her focus to the eye candy on the TV. I leaned back into the couch and watched the movie. My mind wasn’t focused on the eye candy or the plot. My mind was buzzing with thoughts of Dante. How I wanted his hands in mine. Like the couple on TV. Gods, I’m glad no one knows how much I dream about him. I mess with the clay eyeball ring on my index finger. I kept twisting it around and around my finger. I just hope he will agree to me being his secretary. I know I didn’t look like the office type, but I could dress down for it. I wouldn’t have to wear my crazy hair accessories or my makeup over exaggerated. I could wear a pencil skirt and a button down shirt. I knew how to dress the part, and when I get home, I can go back to my cutie gore core style. I mean, I knew how to dress professionally. It’s just what if he couldn’t see that, and he turned me down for the possible position. I was probably worrying for nothing; he was the one who reached out first, but still, that didn’t mean anything. Ira looked over at me and squeezed my hand. “What’s going on? I can tell you’re worried. You’re chewing on your bottom lip.” “Oh, I was? I— I didn’t notice.” “Yeah, hey, is it about if my father will say yes?” “S-say yes? I— I yeah. I am a little bit worried he’ll say no.” “Nah, he adores you.” She smiled. “He’s always treated you like you were one of us.” “Yeah, I know, especially when my parents died during our freshman year. I miss them, ya know. This may sound morbid or bad, but I’m glad I was left everything because then I wouldn’t have had a house to live in anymore. At least when I’m home, I have a place filled with family memories.” She smiled and shook her head. “Nah, that would’ve been harder on you if you lost your family home and everything on top of them. Don’t feel like thinking that is morbid or wrong.” “Thanks, Ira, you don’t know how much that made me feel like I wasn’t some f****d up weirdo.” “Hey, I’d never think that about my bestie.” She pulled me into a tight hug. “Let’s not worry about all that. You’ll get this job. You’ll do great at my father’s company. You’re smart and have great attention to detail.” “Thanks.” I hugged her back. “You are a f*****g lifesaver.” “b***h, don’t you ever forget that or take it back. Deal?” “Deal.” I pulled away, and we both brought our attention back to the movie on the screen. I leaned further back into the leather. It was starting to stick to my skin, and I felt icky. Especially since all I was thinking about was Ira’s father. It was making my skin flushed and a tad sweaty at the nape of my neck. I tried to will the images of his hands on my body. His tall and muscular frame was hovering over mine. The size difference alone would make me f*****g melt. I sighed as I tried to pay attention and be a good friend. Ira looked over at me. “I’m good, I promise, just still a little nervous.”
