Chapter VII

~ Rain "Did you find what you have been looking for?" I heard a voice croak suddenly. I jumped at the sudden noise and my head shot to the direction of the voice. I looked at the speaker to see that he was the Alpha. I wondered how I didn't catch his smell. It was so obvious a few minutes ago. I should have been able to catch it, but I didn't. This was weird. I tried to say something back and explain why I was here, but it seemed as if already had an idea of my reason to be here, so there was no point in explaining thus, I stayed silent. "You are not the talkative one, are you?" He wondered. Based on my silent response, he assumed that I wasn't talkative, but he was wrong. In a normal situation, I'm the farthest it could get from quiet. He needed some work on his facts. "Still don't want to talk. Once a habit, always a habit, you know?" I furrowed my eyebrows, confused by his words. I thought this might be one of his tricks to get me to speak. I decided to ruin his plans, and not say anything back. I looked back to the screen of my phone, going through the contact to find my father's number. I found it and called the number, but I couldn't hear the ringing sound. I wondered what could have gone wrong and checked my phone. "I should have mentioned this earlier, but we have no service here. It is like, once you get in, you can't get out." What was he talking about? Why was this man's words so twisted? It was either that or that he had some serious issues that needed to be looked into. "Are you trying to reach someone out?" He asked, not sure if he was trying to offer help or just prying. "I get it you are the Alpha of this pack?" I eventually decided to speak. I thought I might get him to help me back to my pack, although I knew this was a very slight possibility. I still had hope. "And how is that related to my question?" He answered my question with another question, raising an eyebrow. I sighed. "I'm trying to reach someone because if you didn't notice, I have a pack to return to." I flashed him a fake smile. "We normally don't allow visitors in unless they go through me first." He explained. "You see, we are a pack that has diverse origins, so it is easy for intruders to get mixed up with our people and this might pose a threat to us." His way of explaining how his pack operated gave me the feeling that I wasn't welcome here and probably leaving wouldn't be as easy as I would have liked it to be. "Well, that is why I am trying to leave as soon as possible." I explained. "I came here by mistake." "There is no mistakes when crossing other packs territories." That was what I was afraid might happen. Crossing other packs territory without a convincing reason for doing it was a taboo. This was a law enforced on all packs and the punishment for it was severe. Every pack was very possessive over what belongs to it, especially its piece if land, so breaking this law might result in getting you killed and your home pack could protest. This was when I wasn't sure what to say. I thought Lucas knew what he was doing. Do I make up an excuse fo it? Or do I blame Lucas? He was ill willed towards to me anyway. Plus, the Alpha wasn't very fond of him, so it didn't really make that big of a difference. "I-" I started, but my mind couldn't think if an excuse to say. However the Alpha seemed patient and willing to listen to whatever bullshit I was about to say. "Someone blackmailed me into coming here." "Blackmailed you?" He repeated. I nodded, not sure if I said something wrong. "So you came here by you own will?" He questioned. "Yes. Was it supposed to be in an another way?" I answered, questioning back. Lucas kept telling me that all the rumors spreading about this pack wasn't true and I started to believe him despite everything because he sounded sincere. I can tell when someone is telling the truth and I was certain that he did, but after what the Alpha was saying I started to doubt his words again. "Maybe," He replied. Do I ever get straight answers from this guy? He stepped closer, walking out of the shadows, his face started to show and the first things I caught were his eyes. Crystal blue. His iris was the brightest shades of blue that it almost looked grey in this lighting and the ring around was so dark that it could be darker than just black with his long lashes that were glooming over his eyes. It was alluring. His hair was golden brown. He was wearing it down, parting it in the middle, leaving a gap that showed most of his forehead. His hair was not that long though. It was right below his earlobe. He had a small curl inward at the end of his hair. He might look like he had just got his hair done, but I doubted someone like him would ever do that. At first I thought he wasn't that tall, but when he approached I could tell that he was tall indeed. I estimated about six feet for his height. He was a totally different person than I expected him to be. I pictured him to be a middle aged man, probably in his late forties if not an old man, but it was to my surprise that he looked so young almost the same age as me. I instantly started to doubt that the rumors about him were true after all. I always went by the saying 'don't judge a book by its cover', but this time I was guilty of not keeping my word. He was handsome that it made my heart flutter and my cheeks to blush. I have seen many handsome people before and not even once did I ever have this reaction. And for some reason, I couldn't stop it... not even hide it. Suddenly, I realized the duration of time that I had been staring at him for and looked away immediately, not wanting to look like a creep, considering the situation I was in. However, I could help, but let a small smile escape as I shifted my gaze to the ground. "It's not very often that we get visitors, considering our reputation, you know?" He spoke openly about it. I lifted my gaze up to meet his. Another smile escaped my mouth. I internally face palmed myself and hoped that he didn't notice. His gaze shifted to my lips and smirked. Shit! He noticed... I gulped and thought of something quickly to get rid of the awkwardness. Think, Rain. Think. His teeth looks nice though. "If you let me leave, I promise, I won't ever come back here again." I said, feeling a stab at my chest as I said these words. I wanted to go back home, but my mind was commanding my body otherwise. "I didn't break any and I don't know anyone here. Will you let me leave?" "No can do, pretty head." Did he just call me pretty? I internally smirked even though there was a high possibility that he didn't even mean it however, It's the thought that counts. "I came here by mistake. I promise." I tried again. I didn't feel sad that he refused though, but I had to go home and face my father and Caleb before things got even worse. "Now you're just repeating yourself." He chuckled. I bit my lips. I need to come up with something cleverer than this, but somehow my mind didn't want to work. It stopped responding a few minutes ago. "So what's your name?" He asked out of the blue. "Rain," I said as if I was hypnotized to immediately reply. "Rain," He tasted it on his tongue and paused for a couple of seconds, remembering something. "I've always loved this name." He said airily. "It's a very rare name. I'm surprised you've heard it before." I admitted. "Oh, I have heard it before." He repeated. "Who was it?" I asked, trying to distract him from the main topic. "I can see that you're trying to be clever." He discovered my plan. "That won't change the fact that you crossed a different territory." I sighed in disappointment. I thought my plan was going to work. "What is going to happen to me now?" I asked. "There will be consequences to your actions." He continued, totally disregarding my question. I didn't feel scared, not even in the least. Maybe I was being strong, or maybe just plain stupid. Who knows? But there was one more thing that I recently discovered. I didn't want to go home anymore...
