~ Rain
It was getting all the more late and I was growing all the more uncomfortable after getting my cover blown up. I decided to keep this a secret until the ceremony, but it looked like fate had other plans in mind.
Considering how late it was, I started feeling tired and my eye lids felt heavy. I needed my beauty sleep. The lady seemed to notice this.
"You must be tired, giving how very late it is. Do you want me to take to your room?" Did she know where my room is? I was not sure myself where it was located. I would get lost for at least a fifteen minutes before I could reach it. "Come follow me!" She gestured with her hands to follow her and advanced up ahead. I went after her quietly taking the chance of escaping the little conversation I had with Lucas before this lady intervened. We went inside the building.
Judging by her words, I thought she might have known the way to my room which would have saved me the effort of looking around for it and catching the unnecessary attention of curious member, considering that my cover was already blown. It would be harder for me to blend in.
"I am sorry if he was bothering you in any way." She apologized for Lucas, sounding sincere. It was either because Lucas was well known to be a rebellious or mischievous character or perhaps it was just because she had a similar mindset as mine since we look almost the same age. "I never introduced myself. My name is Avery. It is a pleasure to meet you, Rain." She changed the subject quickly before I could press on it any further. I wanted to ask her what role did she have in the pack, but I did not want to seem nosey or give her a bad first impression, since she looked so nice.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, too." I replied silently.
"I hope you know the way to your room because I only said that to get you out the situation. You seemed very uncomfortable talking to him." She spoke her mind and in truth, she was right, a hundred percent.
"No, I do not. I barely arrived here." I admitted.
"Then I should take you to Samuel's room." I chocked on my own saliva. Oh, hell no! This would be next to the last thing I wanted to do.
"Oh, no. I left some of my stuff in my room. It is really important, so I have to go there anyway." I lied and it was so obvious that I looked dumb. Way to go, Rain! Such a good first impression you just made. A liar.
"Okay," She paused for a few seconds, thinking of something. "Do you remember any special features that it had?" She asked. I thought hard about it, but my mind did not find a suitable answer, so I just said the first thing that came to my mind.
"The curtains were unmovable." I said, after a moment of silence.
"Most of the rooms have this feature. I can't make out the location of your room with only this piece of information." She replied. I wonder why would they do this. Then, I suddenly remembered the twenty five girls every year legacy. I was not for sure if that was why they installed those fixed in place curtains or if they had a different reason for that.
"Yeah, but it is smashed." I continued my statement.
"Oh." she muttered. "I thought I heard the sound of glass shattering earlier. Was that from your room?" So she heard it after all. I wonder why did not anyone some out to investigate. In my home pack, there would have been at least five people came out and checked whether it was an accident or something was not okay. People here confuse me.
"Yes, that was me breaking it." I admitted again.
"Why did you do that? Are you okay?" She seemed genuinely concerned, but I did not want to tell her the truth. I did not want everyone to know my whole story. Why would I anyway? I was going to leave after a few months. This was temporary.
"Yes, I am okay. It was just an accident." I lied again.
"I hope you were not injured by the broken glass, were you?" She asked, still having concern towards me in her eyes.
"No, thankfully, I was not." I said, but in reality, I was not sure if I was injured or not. I was too occupied by something else that I found no time to check for any scratches on my body.
"That is good. Thank Goodness." She sighed. "I think I know where your room should be, now." Good. I knew this would work. She gestured for me to follow her and so I did. She took me up a flight of stairs. I decided to pay a little more attention to the way, in case. I went out and had to find my way back to my room on my own. I started to notice how old fashioned– yet very costly the decor of the house seemed to be. In my pack, this would have been used as a good source of income out of visitors from other pack. They would have made them pay to go for a tour around the house, and I think Lycan Hill should do the same thing... Except that they do not get many visitors, considering their reputation.
We reached my room and Avery was quick to leave after saying goodbye, not wanting to bother me and leave me enjoy some privacy.
I walked inside my room and shut the door after Avery left. I tossed my bag on the bed and as an impulsive act, I went to take a look out of the broken window. I felt I was compelled to do this. I should have gone to bed immediately, but no. I reached the window and stared down, zoning out and enjoying the cold breeze for a little while before I noticed a dark shadow flash before my eyes.
It was so fast that I thought my mind might have been playing tricks on me, given my sleep deprivation.
However, in a dark corner of the pack house backyard, I spotted a dark figure hiding there. I could make out that his physique seemed extremely familiar, but I could not yet see his face.
It took me a little while for me to actually realize who it was. I stood in utter shock and my jaw dropped. It can't be. This surely is sleep deprivation. I thought.
But as to prove me wrong, the figure started coming out to the faint light of a street lamp they had in the backyard. Now I was sure of his identity.
He was my Father.
