~ Rain
"Yea. I don't think so." I could feel that person's body being removed forcefully. It was just a split second before the knife was stuck in my neck. "The skill of patience is not one of my specialties, you see."
I slowly opened my eyes and I could see the world again after I thought that I would never be able to. I blinked a few times, to adjust my sight since it was so blurry from shutting my eyes very tight and the way his hands applied pressure on my eyeball while he was covering them.
"You will never wash away your sins, Samuel." The man croaked before I heard a snapping sound. I didn't even need to look to know what was the source of it. Shortly after, I heard a loud thud sound of his dead body being dropped on the ground. He called him by his name. Do the two know each other? Or is that man being disrespectful on purpose?
However, just as I was starting to have my sight back to normal, I spotted someone running away. So there was someone else with him after all. I wonder who it might have been.
"Even his blood smells like shit." I turned to look at Samuel who was being sarcastic immediately after killing someone as if it was an every day thing to do. It made me question his sanity, considering that he had to deal with those kind of people over his long years of living. He might be a little bit off his rockers. Just a tiny bit...
"You came?" I said, surprised, trying my best not to lower my gaze and see the dead body. However, Samuel's previous comment made me notice something. He was be right. The smell was really awful and his dead body could not have started to decompose yet. He could have been a sinner like how Samuel was... I didn't want to make any comments on the situation although I felt bad for the guy. I kept convincing myself it was a kill or be killed situation, yet I could not shake off the feeling of guilt that was dominating over me.
"It's 1:03 AM. It's past the time we agreed you'd be back on. You didn't fulfill your promise, so I figured, I should fulfill mine." I was not exactly sure how did he expect me to fulfill my promise in the state that I was in. I knew I should not have promised something I was not certain if I can do, but it was the only way to convince him to let me go alone. Suddenly, a question popped into my head.
"How did you know where I was?" I asked him, squinting my eyes.
"That is a good question." He answered. "I was hoping you would not ask that." he admitted.
"Were you following me?" I asked again.
"Maybe." He replied. "Or maybe your smell was what brought me here." Smell? I was getting tired of this word. I had been hearing it a lot lately.
"You are lying. You were following me" I said. "Only close wolves would recognize the smell of each other."
"Oh, you are smart." He started. I was flattered he complimented me. "And really dumb and the same time." He spoke his mind and I spoke too soon...
"That was not the best way to compliment someone, but okay." I said, but I couldn't help but wonder what he meant by that. I was sure he was not just making an assumption. He was surely hiding something. But then he is the infamous Alpha of Lycan Hill, of course he have secrets... Dark ones too. "There was the guy that just ran away. I thought I might let you know." I said, knowing that he must be far enough now for Samuel not to go after him.
"You could have mentioned this a little earlier." Nope...
"Did you really not see him?" I asked.
"I saw him." He answered truthfully. "I just wanted someone to relay a message to an old friend of mine." He continued. I had a feeling that he and the friend he mentioned weren't really on good friendly terms at the moment, but I decided to shake it off, not pressing any further on this subject. "His smell is getting even worse. We should go back now." He asked.
"Do you think that he was a sinner? that is why his blood smells so bad." I asked as we headed back for the pack. It was one of the stupidest questions that ever escaped my mouth. I regretted asking it as soon as it left my mouth. His reaction was nonchalant. I could not feel any tension in the atmosphere. His reply was late, but finally came.
"Everyone is a sinner, just on different scales." He said. "Even you are a sinner."
"How do you know I am?" I was offended for some reason because I did not remember committing any sin. I do wrongs sometimes, but not sins. I never want to anger the Moon Goddess. However his answer to my question was a deep and slightly sad look. I blinked, feeling confused. "I am so pure." I giggled, trying to lighten up the mood.
"Are you?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Yes." I paused for a second before saying, "Thank you for coming for my aid and saving my ass tonight," I spoke gratefully. "If it was not for you, I would have been dead by now, so thanks." I should have said that earlier, but I was trying to find a suitable time to confess my gratitude.
"Sweet words won't make your verdict any easier." He said. He could have just said you are welcome or something like that, but I see that he was either too cocky or did not know how to respond to sweet words.
"I was not trying to, anyway." I started. "I can tell you are nothing like the rumors made you out to be." I spoke my mind.
"I won't be so sure if I were you." He replied.
"No, I am sure you are not as bad as those rumors say."
"You trust people so easily. You need to change that, if you want to survive in this cruel world." He was right, I did trust people quite easily. The fact that he wanted me not to trust him made me rethink what I just said.
I really wanted to get to know him more. I was now interested in him. I desired to know more about his past. He was a mystery to me and I was too curious to let him just slip, before figuring him out.
I made my mind. I am going to get closer to him!
