~ Rain
It was the middle of the night when I woke up to the sound of whispering. The voices were familiar. I sat straight in my bed, rubbing my eyes. I focused my hearing, in order to make out what they were saying. I knew eavesdropping was wrong, but I couldn't sustain my curiosity. I decided to listen in case someone was bothered by my stay in here or something.
"Are you sure you're doing the right thing?" A voice whispered.
"I'm not sure if I should have done this." A different voice replied, in a hushed tone as well.
"They'll figure it out eventually. you can't conceal her smell forever." He warned.
"Worst case scenario, I will..." I could not hear the rest of the sentence because he lowered his voice even more, maybe getting suspicious that I was awake... No, that can't be. No one can be that sharp. I focused my hearing once again, hoping that I would make anything else out. I wanted to know what they were talking about so bad. After a while of eavesdropping, I could finally hear some other words.
"The Alpha won't be very pleased with your ways of handling this." The first voice that spoke earlier whispered again.
"What do you mean?" The other person questioned.
"What if this time she's actually the one?" The other guy held back his laughter, producing a muffled noise.
"He's hopeless. He's been searching for her for how many years now," The other person scoffed, raising his voice just a little bit more.
"Oh, you will be hopeless, if he hears you saying this," He stroke back, only to gain another scoff from him. "You're so c**k about this. I'm concerned for you."
"I've seen all this before. It's a one in a million chance to find your mate. Sometimes I even believe that the soul-mate theory is all a lie. A myth they made us believe in, so we can waste our precious lives running after them, fully understanding the fact that we might never find them or that they could have died a long time ago." He paused for a little while before saying, "I'm worried Lycan Hill might face the same fate of my previous pack. If the Alpha of my previous pack stopped looking for his mate while he still had the time, things could have turned out differently." This matches the story Lucas told me about the pack he was born into. I realized then that the speaker must have been him, but who was the other guy. I wonder.
"But the Alpha has to find his mate for the spell to be broken. That's what the moon goddess ordered him to do." My heart skipped a beat. So the rumors were true?
"Pfft. I can't believe that you fall for this s**t," Lucas chuckled. "First of all, I don't believe in the moon goddess, so don't say that and second of all, why don't you think about it this way?" He paused for a minute, "He is the Alpha of rouges, criminals and wolves that have been kicked out or left their pack for some reason. What is the most effective way to intimidate those wolves and gain control over them?"
"He is not the type to bluff, Lucas." He stated.
"Plus, if that was actually true, how could everyone know about it? Wouldn't he want this to be a secret?" He scoffed. "Committing a sin that causes him to get punished for the rest of his life isn't something he would share with the public, right?"
"So you're one of the brainwashed followers. Can't you think for yourself?"
"I don't like where this is going, Lucas. I don't want to get in trouble because of you." Suddenly, I could smell a very sweet and intoxicating scent. It was faint, but it was slowly getting stronger. I took it in, feeling relaxed as it slid down to my lungs and out again.
"No one's ever got in trouble with him."
"Because no one dared to disobey him," The other guy replied almost immediately. It was a weird thing that they didn't smell it. The scent was now strong enough for a wolf from to smell it even from a mile away. I didn't understand how they couldn't. I decided to shake it off and listen to the rest of their conversation before I missed anything.
"You're such a loyal dog, you know?" Lucas chuckled.
"I would've been a rouge if it wasn't for him, so yes, I am a loyal dog." He started, "And if you took that girl here with you for your own pleasure and not to offer for the Alpha, then you shouldn't have asked me to help you," He snapped. If I was in my normal condition, I would've freaked out, probably opened the door and sprinted out of the house. I was blackmailed.
Don't get me wrong, I was worried, but calm. The scent I was talking about had a weird effect on me. It's like my whole body was numb. I zoned out for a few seconds and when I collected myself and started listening again, I realized I missed a few things,
"What's the purpose of offering him twenty-five girls every year?" Lucas asked. "Was the spell casted on him while he was twenty-five or something?"
"Some things shouldn't be questioned."
"It's all a play with which he would get to your heads. Think about it what were you before you joined this pack. A r****t, scum. This is the only way he could get you all under his control." A thought occurred to me I moved closer to the door and cracked it open. I made sure not to make any noise, in order not to be found out. I stole a glance at the other guy's face and I immediately recognized it. Just as I thought! It was the creeper from the party. So It was all a play to drag me here. Rather than feeling scared, I was angry.
The creeper seemed quiet, probably starting to believe Lucas.
"So what are you planning to do with the girl?"
"Oh, you will see. I'll have so much fun. I might leave a little for you after I'm done." Lucas chuckled evilly. I shivered, but to my surprise, I wasn't intimidated at all. His words didn't have any effect on me as if he was talking about someone else. The scent was so strong now that its source must be extremely close by.
"Do you have an excuse to say for not collecting the twenty-five girls?"
"I'll figure it out." Lucas shrugged carelessly.
"You don't know what you are getting yourself into, Lucas." The creeper warned.
"You are still not convinced, aren't you?" He sighed. "Let me try this again." He paused for a minute before saying, "Do you even know what sin could he have committed to anger the so called 'Moon Goddess' to the point that she cast a spell on him?" He scoffed for the millionth time today. "And since when does The Moon Goddess practice witchery?" He laughed, but suddenly a different voice could be heard, I looked through the small gap the cracked door offered. I could see a new figure approaching however, I wasn't able to see his face since the lights of room was dim, just a small lamp was lit. He had a nice figure. He wasn't very tall, but his wide shoulders and defined muscles were enough to make me drool. His presence was undeniably intimidating, proving everything Lucas has been saying wrong. I eventually realized the smell was his
"It wasn't the Moon Goddess who casted the spell," He spoke suddenly and out of the blue, making both Lucas and the creeper jump in fear. They both looked at him wide-eyed in unison. His tone indicated that he wasn't very happy with the conversation they were having and the fear they had in their eyes told me that he wasn't about let that just slip. "And my sin is the Prideful."
