Melhior

1049 Words
Garnet grew up to be a beautifull child, she would always smile and show love to everyone around her. Lafia and Vander were very proud of her and loved her dearly, yet the little princess yearned for the acceptance of her sister. In her eyes, Carila was the ideal princess, strong and proud, determined and with a beauty unlike anything else. She had seen her from afar and had tried to get closer to her, however her father had told her never to try and get close to Carila. That, as one might suspect, didn't sit well with the second princess who really wondered why her older sister wasn't usually around. Even at dinner she'd rarely appear and when she did, she would ignore all three of them.  One day, Garnet saw her sister play with a kitten. She wasn't close enough to be seen but she saw her sister's face soften, her eyes became gentle, a warm smile appeared on her face and when the kitten tripped over and fell, she laughed and picked it up, walking away while holding it. The same day, Garnet went to her father and asked him to let the two of them spent some time together, which Vander flatly rejected, saying only a sentence to justify his answer.  Vander: She's evil. Garnet: But I saw her smile, laugh and play! And she doesn't look scary.  Vander had been suprised at what he had heard. Not at the fact that Garnet was defending Carila but at the news of her being... normal. Smile, laugh, play... that sounded more like a normal girl and not the monster he had seen up to this point. He decided to put this to the test, he placed maids, guards and even some nobles around the palace and had them watch over Carila's actions. If she had a heart and could actually care for something other than causing grief, then he vowed to try and direct at least towards Garnet. Lafia: I am sure that she is finally getting over some of her pain. Maybe she'll never accept me but she might accept her sister. Vander: I hope so. Going on like this is tiring... and Garnet is also extremely sad that she can't stay with Carila. As the king finished his sentence they saw Carila walk towards her room. Right behind her was Garnet who was trying to touch Carila. The elder female just ignored the younger one and just kept on walking. Lafia: Did you see that?!!! Lafia's happiness could be seen clearly, a happiness that Vander shared, if he had to be honest. To see that girl actually calm with Garnet around was progress, which only made him hope for something better in the future. Meanwhile Carila wasn't enjoying Garnet's presence one bit. She was more interested in her discoveries in magic than dealing with the child, though. One could get the wrong idea and believe that the princesses were getting along in some odd, strange way... but if they voiced, Carila would correct immediately. Garnet: And then the maid said that nuts are something you also like. I was so happy and I wanted to bring you some but father wouldn't let me. Carila: Are you done? At Carila's calm and cold tone Garnet smiled. It wasn't a usual for Carila to talk to her and so the twelve yeared old smiled as the sixteen year old princess stared at her with no emotion on her face whatsoever. It wasn't the worst Garnet had seen but it wasn't the best either. However, she felt that perhaps the two of them could actually hang out together. Garnet: I'm sorry, I just kept talking... it must have been weird. Carila: That's the last word I'd use. Believe me, there are words that fit the situation better. Garnet: Oh! I see. Anyway, in two days there will be a tea party... and I'd really like for you to join me.  Carila: No. And stop following me, I'm going to my room and I don't need an escort.  At her flat, empty words Garnet's previous joy shattered. She looked down sadly and wondered if she had done something wrong. Garnet:  I'm sorry... I... I just thought...  Lafia: Garnet! Finally I found you, it's time for your history lesson.  Both princesses turned to see Lafia walk over to them. She looked at Carila and gave a small bow before looking over to Garnet. Garnet:  Oh my! I completely forgot! Carila: A bad trait for all women, noble or not. Make sure to fix. At Carila's stern words, Garnet and Lafia blinked surprised. It seriously sounded like some an advice and older sister would give. Garnet smiled and nodded happily. Garnet: I will, your grace!  And with that the little princess left for her lesson, leaving the queen and the princess alone. The atmosphere was tense and cold, with Carila's previously emotionless face now turning into that of pure disgust. Lafia: I'm sorry if Garnet annoyed you. She just looks up to you a lot...  Carila:  That is your problem. I only care about myself and those that I call allies.  Lafia: Carila, I want to be your ally too. I really care about you and I know that I may never be close to the queen your mother was... but please... just give us a chance. Carila: You are right about one thing. You will never be anywhere near the queen my mother was.  At her answer Lafia didn't know what to say. Then an idea popped out and decided to see if she could get Carila to join. Lafia: Today, the prince of a foreign kingdom will visit us. His name is Melhior and he is around your age, perhaps the two of you could become friends. As the future queen, socializing is something, as I am sure you know, that plays a big role when ruling over a country. Carila: You should be more concerned about finding your daughter a partner. As for prince Melhior, I will speak to him when I feel it is the right time. Your concern is uneeded and your attempt to make us seem like allies is just as ridiculous. Lafia seemed taken aback by Carila's words. Her tone was hatefull and her eyes showed anger and annoyance. From the looks of it, the prince's arrival wouldn't affect their relationship... or so the queen thought. The truth was, that this meeting would create the greatest tragedy of all. And the nightmare that would follow... was also going to make everything they've lived up to this point, a simple joke.
