After Garnet's birth, Queen Lafia finally stopped trying to approach Carila because she needed to care for her own daughter. The king was also pleased but he could always sense the hatred of his first child, it clawed it's way to the corridors near her bedroom, infected her servants and made her look all the more dangerous... Vander wanted to Garnet to be his heir but he knew that this wouldn't be accepted by the nobility who were firmly on Carila's side due to her being "clean", as they liked to put it.
One day, while Carila, now fourteen years old, was reading under a tree in the royal garden and was enjoying the silence around her and the gentle breeze of spring. It was one of the few things that gave her happiness and made her forget her unfortunate situation. However her blissfull moment was interrupted when she saw a small baby girl walk, or rather attempt to walk over to her. Upon closer inspection she frowned, blonde hair that ended a little above her shoulders, shiny and smooth in adorable curles, deep blue eyes, sparkling like sapphires under the light of the sun... just like Queen Lafia, this baby looked exactly like her... which meant one thing, she was her half sister, Garnet. Carila stood up, this was the first time meeting this baby and yet she already hated it, she scoffed and turned to leave when she heard a voice calling out for the brat behind her, it was the Queen herself, apparently her maids weren't doing a proper job, since they were able to loose a baby that could barely walk.
Carila :
How pathetic.
Carila's tone was cold and her expression empty, she spared a glance at Garnet who had finally managed to reach her. She looked up at her older sister and chuckled, raising her tiny hands, asking for a hug. Carila glared at her and began walking away, ignoring the sounds of distress the little girl behind her made. Suddenly she heard a thump and turned to see, Garnet was on the ground, probably because she lost her balance, she began crying, alerting the Queen of her location, Carila knew that nothing good could come from meeting that woman, so she left as fast as she could. Unfotunately however, there are eyes everywhere in the palace... and it wasn't long before rumour began about Carila hitting Garnet and making her cry. The king was furious and had run off to speak with Carila, only to stop when he saw his daughter's cold, merciless glare.
Carila :
If it's about your daughter, turn around and leave. The last thing I'd do would be touching that thing.
Vander :
She's your sister, you better get that in your head, if you want to be treated as a member of this family.
At that, Carila began laughing, it was a mocking, bitter laugh. Her gaze, proud and hatefull made shivers run down the king's spine. How could a kid, a mere child, be so frightnening?
Carila :
Neither you, nor her... will ever be my family. You will do well to remember that, your majesty.
Vander :
How dare you!!!
Before another word was exchanged between them, a servant came and informed the king of an urgent matter. He gave Carila a bone chilling glare, warning her in silence, before leaving the room. To her, it was clear that she would never be able to beat that woman, Lafia had won the war between them... but her daughter would never be happy, as long as Carila lived, that child would suffer as much as she had. It was only fair, she had done nothing and yet had been doomed to suffer...so if she, an innocent person, had to suffer, it was fair for another innocent person to suffer as well.
After that day, the contact between Carila and the rest of the royal family was limited to the bare minimum. They'd only be seen together at balls and even then, it was terrifying, the hatred the king and the first princess had for each other was present and dominant, almost ruining all the celebrations held at the castle. Even when the Queen tried to approach Carila again, things didn't change, if anything they became worse. The Queen had once begged the king to let Carila spend time alone with Garnet, yet the king never approved. He knew that Carila would never allow Garnet in her heart, he knew that she hated this child.
Lafia :
My king, please... just once, let them meet. Garnet seems to like her older sister. Carila can't really hate an innocent baby! She's just in pain, she's simply lonely... I know that she doesn't like me but...
Vander :
Lafia, this isn't as simple as you think. That child has magic... she's not normal.
Lafia :
She's an innocent child, Vander. She lost her mother... and no one gave her any kind of love before. They only gave her hatred. She is like this because she never received love, I'm sure she'll change once someone tries to show her that she can be loved.
Vander :
But she doesn't want to be loved! She keeps refusing my orders, I told her that if she wants to be considered a member of this family, she would do well to treat you and Garnet as a family.
Carila :
I'd rather die than accept you fools!
Carila's sudden intrusion startled both the King and the Queen, upon turning to look at her, they gasped. Her black, almost abyssal eyes glared at them both with pure, untamed hatred and disgust. Her equally black hair were slightly flying upwards as magic coursed the young girl's body, a dark aura emitting from her, proof of her unique identity... proof of her true nature.
Lafia :
Carila, dear, please calm down! I am sure, your father didn't mean it like that.
Vander :
Enough with this! Carila, Lafia is your new mother, I am your father and Garnet is your little sister. Stop acting like a spoiled little girl and snap out of that delusion of yours!
Carila :
The only one who's delusional here, is your sorry excuse of a Queen!!! That woman will never be my mother and that THING will never be my sister!
Lafia :
Carila please! I really care about you! I do love you!
Carila :
A peasant shouldn't speak out of order. You may think you're a Queen but all you'll ever be is the mistress, the loser who thought she would amount to something by stealing!
Those words were enough for Vander to slap Carila. Even though the two would always speak hatefully, neither had ever raised their hand against each other... but this, Vander's action right now had sealed their relationship. Lafia stared in horror, as the young princess gave her father the deadliest glare she could master and then left in silence, vowing not to let herself loose like that again. She vowed to become Queen, she vowed to kill these two and, she vowed to destroy Garnet no matter what she'd have to sacrifice in order to achieve that.
